Please read “delivered from distraction” it’s a profound book explaining it all and the biggest takeaway I gained was “focus on what you’re good at, (because we ADDers are REALLY good at certain things!) and stop trying to be good at what you’re bad at.” The more i embrace focusing on what I’m good at and delegating as much as possible what I am not, the more successful I am. 🙏

As a women with add with neurodivergent kids of a few kinds too.......I find looking for tricks or hacks to reduce occurrences of stuff like this.....which I have done myself a few times.....like I was always leaving my wallet or purse behind in stores ...then my phone when that became a thing.....I always put my keys in the pile of stuff now.....I may have to return to the store but only from the parking lot.
I also turn around and look at my car as a routine when I enter my house. To check for lights on....doors open....grocery bags left behind...coffee cup on roof 😊
So if I concentrate on how to work with my brain to stop doing this stuff instead of drowning in shame and stress it really helps.

Ugh. TELL me about it. I am smack dab in the middle of a custody battle, I have with me an 8 month old , I take care of a 92 yr old woman , and I am TRYING to fix this almost 90 yr old house, no car, no job , FULLY dependent on my husband. This house is SOOO FULL OF STUFF EVERYWHERE . It drives me INSANE . As if it weren't bad enough that I have ALWAYS had the worst self talk , for the vast majority of m life, (I am also in recovery btw, prior to being diagnosed with ADHD I became addicted to opiates and benzos, so I could 'function' , not knowing that I was self medicating something that there was an actual treatment for) ~ anywho,I am under a microscope with the judge and the attorneys and the Guardian Ad Litems and the therapists ALL having ACTUAL LITERAL MEETINGS and emailing and zoom calling back and forth for the sole purpose to discuss EVERY SINGLE THING I do and DON'T do and how well or NOT well I did it. ~ sigh. It's very difficult, but I just keep on keepin on. And I have started STOPPING caring what ANYONE and EVERYONE ELSE thinks about me. I LOVE the way she talks to herself. I myself recently learned a REALLY cool AMAZING trick on how to love yourself and it has COMPLETELY changed my life and my perspective on life. Basically, treat yourself the way you would treat your child if they did what you did. Hug and love and console and comfort yourself the way you would ur little baby. Seriously!!!! ALLLLL that love u have to give to THEM , channel that right back towards yourself. If you wouldn't say or do it to your children , don't say it or do it to yourself. ❤

When I got home, I noticed that my security door was unlocked. I thought "oops I forgot to lock it."
My neighbour came over later and told me that I had left my front door open and lights on and he saw it about 11pm the night before. He called out to check if I was ok and realised I wasn't home, and I had left it open, so he turned off all my lights and shut my main door for me... 🤦‍♀️

I can’t clean house like normal people supposedly do or anything else really. I’ll start to clean up/straighten up the living room then see something that needs to go to the bathroom and stop on the middle of doing the LR and head to the bathroom but on the way there I might grab something else that goes to the bedroom as well. Once I get to the bathroom I’ll notice I need to clean the sink or toilet or whatever, set down everything and start on that but I realize suddenly my gloves and the disinfectant wipes/cleaner is in the kitchen so I stop and head to the kitchen and on the way there see something in the living room that needs to go to the bedroom and off I go…. Hours later I’ve half cleaned the bathroom, started to wash dishes but haven’t finished, gotten the vacuum out to do the floors starting with the living room but couldn’t find the attachment for finishing the couch and my bedroom has barely been touched although I’ve tossed a couple items onto whatever surface was closest and have a half finished basket of laundry I was folding and two drawers of my dresser are half open with socks that need their mate laying on the top, there’s items in the bathroom that need to go to the bedroom from way earlier, and I need to find my phone to make a phone call to have my prescriptions refilled and sent to me that I’ve forgotten to do for two weeks and I’m going to run out of meds now but I can’t find my phone so I’m looking for my iPad to use the Find my Phone app and can’t find my iPad that I was certain I had on the couch earlier then remember I’d gone out to my van with my phone earlier in the day so I walk out to my van but I don’t know where my van keys are and I look in the window to see my keys and my phone are laying on the front seat and then realize my bag that has my spare key in it is also sitting between the front seats, I’ve left my patio door open so my dog is now taking herself for a walk around the apartment complex and I can’t find her and I’m having a panic attack because I can’t leave my apartment to go looking for her because I can’t lock my door because I’ve locked my keys in my van and can’t call anyone to help me because my phone is locked in my van and now I’m freaking out…
Thankfully I have a few people who know me quite well and my dog goes to my friend’s apartment so she brings her back to me and my neighbor helps me get my van door open because I forgot to roll the window all the way up and there’s room for a coat hanger to easily get my van unlocked and I’m able to get my phone and my keys and my bag and go inside with my dog and then collapse on the couch exhausted and realize that it’s been 6 or 7 hours and my apartment is still a mess and I’m exhausted. Really has happened to me, and every day is a new adventure but quite familiar in this routine. ADHD. At least I know why I do the things I do or don’t do that I should. It’s a struggle to accomplish what many people seem to quite easily. I have learned to laugh about it but there are days it’s not so easy. Thank you Mel.

@@HostileWorkplaceEXPOSED easy to understand your feelings given that this is highlighting the downsides that ADHD can come with. However, there’s a lot of upsides to ADHD that get overlooked. For example, because the ADHD neurodivergent brain is usually running full speed on all cylinders seemingly at all times, during slow quiet times we may seem like absolute restless fidgeting fools but we have the ability to hyper focus during a time of stress or in an emergency. Because there’s so much busyness happening in our brain it kind of syncs up in a time of crisis because of all the busy-ness as it were and we can focus on what needs to be done to help. Not all ADHD folks are like this, but many are. There’s a lot examples of the upsides and to someone with ADHD who often feels like they fall short in the eyes of the normal brained neurotypical people around us, we beat ourselves up enough for not being like everyone else. So sometimes it helps to seek out and be okay and show grace to ourselves when we fall short and recognize that we do have advantages in many other areas.

This constant cocktail of anxiety brew thrn causes even more mistakes, questioning, paralysis, inability to be self aware- doubt - on and on-- and it isn’t simple to unravel.
You can do some for yourself but it gets super complicated when you have to make higher level decisions and educate and hope that others- partners, graduate schools, work believes and works with you.
This time is coming but it takes a WHiLe for us to actually get over the trauma…
And for some of us, figure out what to say when and how.

But it’s NOT a blessing when the chaos stays in your head and even overwhelms and bothers you… or you’re aware that nothing happening in here ever becomes an actuality.
And the daily getting through life without the time scale or allowances is literally exhausting.
      Let’s be real.

ADHD is having half a dozen televisions on different channels in the same room. Having
a buzzing mosquito interrupt a thought. Talking about a subject while thinking of another. Difficulty focusing on a task but sometimes hyper focusing and not being aware of what is going on around you. Having a house that is messy but you find a screw in a junk drawer and know exactly where it belongs. The artistic ability and creativity is a plus as well as multitasking. That is my personal definition.

My son will be turning 50yrs a few weeks. He has ADHD discovered by his teacher in elementary school. He is now a scientist at one of the leading space agencies in the world and widely respected. He was a such a pleasure to raise along with his brother and I’m so proud of him. He is very funny and full of humor. Oh yes, I have it also. He’s my hero

Even if you don't it's not the end of the world. Choose friends who will accept you as you are. Marriage is too challenging and wrought with stress when you have mental health issues.

@@jessethepersiankitty2377 Yeah, marriage is challenging, but it can actually help to have someone remember the things you forget a lot and know your triggers. My husband knows me so well now that he just removes them or fixes them half the time before they even become a problem. 😅

@@Observer100-cn7gv I think if i wasn't always trying my best and finding ways that work for me to better function then I would say you have a point, but what one person finds annoying, another person might find endearing. Nobody is perfect, you just gotta find someone who is perfectly imperfect for you. I've been with my husband for nearly 15 years. He still looks at me like the sun shines out my ass. No idea how I got that lucky.

That’s a great idea. About 25 years ago, a couple near here died of CO2 poisoning in their sleep. Their car was found running in the garage below.

37 years old. No food in the house to cook dinner for my kids. Went to the grocery store and when I got back home I went in the house without the groceries looking through the fridge for something to eat. Not a clue that I had left the groceries in the car until 10 minutes later.

I'm 63, been suffering with OCD for decades. I have within the last couple of years developed ADD. I think it was caused by being on the internet, and constantly jumping from one subject to another.

And when we do think like this ourselves…. Just more neurotypicals and the world around us needs to.
Those closest to us or those we work with.
Those on the margins can enjoy our quirkiness but when they are intertwined or depend on us, the real stuff comes out.
