I interlock for all the reasons you mentioned in this video. Also, too tight too frequent retwists were weakening my locks. With interlocking, I can go months without a touch up, which helped my hair to regain its natural thickness and also allowed dormant hair follicles to regain new life. So, interlock, yeah.
This is encouraging! I just got my first interlock. This was my 2nd maintenance appointment. I had a lot of new growth from 7 weeks of growing. . .I'm looking to have thicker locs! I'm very active so I'm excited to see what my hair is like in 7-8 more weeks!
I prefer interlocking as my new growth kept unravelling and wouldn’t lock at all. Loving the interlocking
Team interlock. And it does not thin the lock if done properly. You must know what you're doing though. Her hair looks great!
Interlocking never gave me probs lol
Me either
I started interlocking because my hair is fine!! My stylist actually recommended it!! I started with 2 strand twist but after the 3 time getting my hair palmed rolled it didn't do my hair any justice! As soon as I would leave the shop my hair would unravel!! I've been locked 4 1/2 years and I LOVE it!! But to each his own!!
Yesss me to. I’m a year end in 2 weeks and for 7 months I retwisted and my hair was so soft it would untwist in a week. So I switched to interlocking and I LOVE it
I have really low density and I have been palm rolling only and said I'd never interlock because of the horror stories. I am now thinking to try interlocking. I am worried if my hair my look more fine with interlocking.
Her hair looks thicker and stronger with the interlock
I think twisting locs is beautiful. However, for my family & I (with many different textures) I interlock all our hair & it's been great for us for years with no damage. Thanks for the video.
I twist my daughter’s hair during the school year. I interlock during the summer. Twisting makes styling look better IMO. She swims a lot during the summer so we wash more often.
I was wondering if you could do both!
I was wondering the same. Which is why I’m skeptical of interlocking.
Makes sense. That’s what I’m thinking about doing too.
I also have super fine strands but high density, and my hair grows away from the loc. Also I prefer to go 3 months between maintenance. And I work out 5 days a week, so 100% interlocking for me as well.
Thank you, you have been so instrumental to my Loc journey. Your videos are so informative .Thanks to you and your son I took the leap to the Loc lifestyle and never looked back. (3 years and counting )
This is encouraging! I just got my first interlock. This was my 2nd maintenance appointment. I had a lot of new growth from 7 weeks of growing. . .I'm looking to have thicker locs! I'm very active so I'm excited to see what my hair is like in 7-8 more weeks! I'm currently at week 15 on this loc journey! I'm loving it! I sweat a lot and had about 1 inch of new growth. I like how my locs are growing down now after my shrinkage period! Yay! Inch by inch! Let's go! ❤
I interlock my sons hair because he was experiencing the same thing your client was experiencing. Now his hair is full and thriving very well
I loooove this!! I've been considering interlocking because I retwist every 3 months and like you said once moisture hits, it's gone!! This video was so helpful!!
My brother has traditional locks that I started and maintain. I started off retwisting then switched to interlocking because his hair just did better with the interlock method. He has had major growth and thickness. I love that he can go months without me doing it. So it’s a win, win !
No lie seeing this video makes me want to interlock.
I have changed from retwisting to interlocking. My hair is soft and my twist don’t last, nor does my loose hair grow into the lock. I find a certain freedom with interlocking. I can workout and wash it after... my only concern is that my locks will become super skinny... I asked my stylist to go two way point rotation than the four way.. I do not want my locks super skinny. Can you do a video on the difference with all the rotations and also can you let me know do interlocking goes through the same process as twisting, do it still bud? Thank you
Im in week two of coils and was considering interlocking bc my hair is soft and gets frizzy very fast...and the stylist using jam doesn't help. Did you ever get a response
@@kerrydavis1544 no I didn’t. I just get my locks interlocked almost twice a year and retwist in between.
My main issue with interlocking is it hurts a lot and I have many locs. Moreover many of them unravel after shampoo so I want to alternate both techniques. I am 2 months locked btw.
@@louisp_g3670 if the interlocking hurts, it's being done to tight
@@NaturalieOne I think I will try this methods too
Thanks
I am in week 8 of my journey. I started with interlocks because my hair is very fine. I also suffer with seborrheic dermatitis and need to wash my hair often. Interlocking gives me the freedom to do this and still keep my parts neat. So far, I am very happy with the results.
I have the same thing . What kind of products do you use ?
@@georgiannagrant1483 I have the samething as well. My Dermo prescribed me ketoconazoles so I use that every 6-8 weeks and then I have a ginger rinse shampoo I put over that and the conditioner from the same line. I also make sure to use Oils and rose water frequently on my scalp.
I thought I just had dry scalp..... I looked it up and it said about the scalp and sides of your nose... the sides of my nose only irritate me near the summer
My hair is very soft. After yrs of trying dred locs I someone to do Interlocs and my hair is doing much better.
Thank you for being so realistic and helping inform my decision!
Just did my first interlock session and so far I like it. I must say it's a different look from a retwist. However with interlocking I find that all my hair gets pulled into their individual loc an my parts are more visible/ neater. With my retwist I was so hesitant to wash and or moisturize my hair bc I was trying to maintain some type of style and it never worked .
I always re introduce interlocking to clients so they can relearn about it. All you hear is bad things about interlocking especially online. Great video!🙌🏾
Thank you for showing a soft interlock because I normally palm roll my loc’s. However decided to interlock and used a tool... 🤦🏾♀️ why did I do that, because I’ve noticed that the hair that is interlocked is not as think as the ends of the rest of my loc’s. Thank you very much for educating us ❤️
I been having the same problem. I think I’m going to look into interlocking now thanks 😊
Thank you so much for this detailed info. I cannot from the root palm roll or interlock my matrix of hair. It used to bother me but my hair simply cannot take too much handling near my scalp. I DO apply moderate finger twists at the base every two months of so.
Great video! Her hair looks healthy with the interlocking
I love my interlocked locs. I chose to go this route because my hair is wavy and not curly. Also, I easily sweat so I love my locs and despite the myths, my hair is very healthy.
2years do you still like you locs?
I would love to interlock but I'm not good at it and I'm not comfortable doing myself. I had someone interlock my hair years ago and I loved the results. Great job on your client's interlock.
Interlocking is my preferred method. I tried retwisting in the beginning of my journey and it just wasnt working for all the reasons you mentioned in the video. Would sweat right out in a couple of days. My sides are shaved so I will be starting a new set of locs once they grow in and I will be interlocking too. It's more hassle free in my opinion
Thank you so much for doing this video. My hair is fine also. I'm going to try interlocking.
I get a palm roll normally however my stylist has given a interlock on Locs that are thin. It does help make your locs thicker.
Hi, defo team interlock. Have been doing so since after my first few palm rolls which kept unravelling as my hair is fine. Been interlocking now for 7 yrs. I interlock myself every 5-6 months doing a two point rotation. Interlocking works for me but it's not for everyone and you do have to make sure you do what works best for your hair and make sure the person doing it knows what they are doing.😊
Will it thickens up?
This is the video I needed to see…her hair is fine just like mine, and I think interlocking with crochet is the way to go for me! Thanks for this!
I started with twisting...but,when I was forced to switch locticians,my new loctician said due to the texture of my hair...interlocking would be best...and,though she re-twisted, once at my request...when my style was taken down, I lost the re-twist.
Now, after 6 months of new growth...and,seeing this video, I may stick with the interlocking method...although, I do like the look of both methods.
Thanks for sharing.
Love that technique of the three pronged tool along the length of the established health lock (will go over to Etsy to your store to purchase). My hair could probably tolerate that as it is not to tight on my roots where I cannot over-do it. Nice.
Used to palm roll but switched to interlocking! I prefer to moisturise my hair daily or every other day (aloe juice/ rose water and oil) and found that doing so after palm rolling would cause the hair to unravel so it never felt worth it. I also had similar problems as your client for some of my locks where my new growth was growing too fast
Great video. I switched over to interlocking my one year anniversary. I have not looked back and I will be at the two year mark soon. I prefer interlocking over retwisting because I like to wash my hair once’s a week since I am so active. Also my hair does not grow into the lock and although I have a lot of strands my strands are fine.
I love your videos. I have retwisted from I started my locs in June, however, I plan on interloc'ing because I have to retwist too often and plan to start working out soon. My hair also gets hella frizzy and while I have no issues with it on the shaft, it is difficult when the roots are super frizzy because of work and my hair is short so I rarely ever style it.
I've been hesitant to switch to interlocking because I want my locs to remain consistent down the length of the loc, and I don't want them to become compact. I plan to do a 2-point rotation to allow swelling and a more consistent look to palm rolling. I love the look of freshly palm rolled locs, so I'll probably utilize both methods over time. I LOVE NO BREAK NOVEMBER!!!
mschris014 no break November? What’s that??
I think I'm going to switch to interloc the start of my second year my hair grows away from my loc as well thank u great video stay loc'D countious blessings✌✌💜💜
One major reason why I switched to interlocking was because my hair was growing outside the loc too. I lost a few locs as a result and my locatitian was not helping at all. So I ditched him and got another locatitian who knows his onions and actually listens when I speak. It's been interlock since then.
I love the interlock look ty for sharing
Considering interlocking. You are so right, my retwist is done as soon as I sweat or shower. I’ve been watching you closely lol.
Thanks for this video. I love interlocking!
Hey girl! You have blessed hands most def!
Can we get a video or tut on how to do soft interlocking? I'm thinking thinking of interlocking at my 2 yr mark in December!🥴😜😜
Hi, back then I was competing in muay thai boxing which was involving getting some strikes on the process... either I couldnt be worried about my hair while a trained dude was trying to knock me out. So I went with interlock and no more worries about the sweat opening up the locks our the hairstyle getting messed up. With interlock it is really instant locking so safest option for a messy fighter with style like me
I go to a loctician every 2 months to interlock my hair. I told her up front that I want as little tension on my hair as possible. She styles my hair during the appointment, and I try to keep it in for 3-4 weeks. After I let my locs down, I leave them down till my next appointment. My locs are thickening.
I must say that I palm rolled my locs once in between appointments and I was surprised by the length my hair showed. However, I noticed that the trade off was thickness (my locs immediately looked neater and longer but thinner). Since I did that, I get why people palm roll, but I'm trying to have my locs mature with as little manipulation as possible while staying active. Interlocking works for me!
Very true. Palm rolling def stretches the hair out which isn’t really compatible with certain texture. Moderation is key.
I’m 8 months loced and have larger locs around 60. I plan to be more active (hot yoga and martial arts). I sweat from my head and I have scalp issues that causes flakes and scans. My concern is I like the uniformed cylindrical look with palm rolling and neat parts. I’m scared to interlock but for the sake of my scalp health and goals to be free with my work out routine. I’ll need to at least try interlocking out.
Been locked for 3years and always experienced my hair coming out my locs at the roots I literally can grip full blown curls smh today I think I’m going to start interlocking
I would love to interlock my own hair been loc'd for 5 years and my roots grow fast and will not loc and are starting to thin and break hopefully I can get some pointers from you wish you were near by I'm in DC love your work
I interlock because I have fine hair. I'm a slow grower as well. I'm 7 months loc'd, getting compliments, but I'm not happy when I look in the mirror. I'm ready to see more growth, thickness, and more style.
I started with comb coils and like your client I switched to interlocking. I have about the same growth. I like the way the interlocked portion looks, to me it looks nicer than the budding portion. The budding section is fat and frizzy. It looks like using your tool makes for a much neater looking loc while it goes through the budding process. Is that what some use the tool for? A neater look “during” the budding stage? Like I mentioned I like the interloc’d look best. I’m sorry my loctician didn’t start Interlocing from the beginning.
Great video.. I would love a video on interlocking on long locs.
Hi. Love your work! Been watching your work for awhile!
Quick question for you... can you twist after you have interlocked?...
Thank you for this video my hair is going through this and I need to interlock
I interlock but I have micro locs so I almost have to to interlock. I am only about two or three months into my journey and I love it. I went smaller because I wanted the freedom of doing plays and other styles still but my curls were so tight I didn’t look 31 lol I looked 13 so I needed a change.
Listennnnnnn I just learned so much… I NEED the interlocking method the way my hair is set up 🤔
I got my starter locks interlocked today!
Beautiful .... I’m interlocked .. because My hair is naturally very fine and very corse easily to break .. my locks are super skinny . But my hair is growing.
I twist because I thought interlocking looked too complex. But now that I realize that my fine strands tend to form flat locks, I wonder if I shouldn't start interlocking ...
I haven't started yet. But I think I'll interlock. It looks easier. I have little children so it would probably be the less stressful way of doing it. I'm waiting for a parting video from the previous video so I can start my locks
I stopped interlocking at a point to see if ,just retwisting would be right for me.😂 oh no! The puffyness is def a NO! Interlocking works fine for me
wait, ive never seen that crochet pick tool before so you just blew my mind. what is it? is there a video on it?
I love retwist but my hair type live the interlocking..my hair loc and new growth does so much better with interlocking
She have the same hair texture. I had the same issues. I usually wash my hair 2 weeks so the retwist would come out. Omg once I changed to interloc I seen a big change my locs. All of the locs that didn't wanna loc instantly loc....idk why it took me so long to interloc
I interlock and this is my second time. I love it. I sweat alot so twisting doesnt work for me
Team Interlock I have soft hair and if I palm roll my edges are completely undone in about 3 - 4 days so I get better results this way.
I interlock it allows my to wet my hair anytime and parts look better on me
I just love locs
Hi i have a question my hair is natural how do i grow bck my edges or make them thicker in the front and in the nape area.
I'm about to interlock my son's hair. He has had them for over a year now and I get tired of his retwist getting puffy at the roots after just a few days.
I’m almost a month in on my Loc journey and I interlocked at the root after I put two strand twists in because I sweat a lot and I like to wash my hair twice a week when it’s hot out
I washed my two strand twists 2 weeks after interlocking them and many of them got unravelled. And as I have to wait for at least 2 months between each interlocking, it disturbs me a lot. Moreover hurts so hard.😅
I am contemplating interlocking but only on the front couple of rows and the very back row. Will that thin out my front and back? It's just that my hair frizzes up so fast and I don't think my hair has enough time in those areas to loc plus my hair is a little bit finer there.
I love interlocking. My hair isn't hard, it's soft and beautiful (imo) I like the thickened roots look on my hair. I get tons of compliments on how fast my hair looks. However, I do have A LOT of fly aways on my locks. If you reply to this maybe I can send you a picture of what I'm talking about. I think the felting to you is may be the answer but I want to be sure.
When you style your dreads can you take them down and let your hair fall or will your hair Congo if you leave it styled. I do not want to get my hair styled if I can not take it down whenever I am tired of the style.
I like the interlocking method
I do interlock my own hair because i work out alot and i have got flashes and twisting was not lasting
I want you to do my hair soooo bad ☹️ You have growing hands.
I retwist mine but I started doing interlocks on my youngest daughters hair. She’s really active and hates sitting under the dryer so I can’t retwist it. Plus it’ll come undone within an hour with how much she jumps around.
Hi DXLYN jus here to say I've been interlocking my pass 2years luv it I'm 3yrs 3months inter🔒'D tanxs for info countious blessings 🤎🤎✌🏾✌🏾4eva🔒'D
I’m interlocking because retwisting just doesn’t work for my hair it’s 3c thick but soft and when water touches it it wants to unravel and curl up 🤦🏾 and I don’t have the time or patience to spend 2-3 hrs retwisting my hair after every time I wash it. I have to wash my hair at least once a week as I workout almost everyday and the type of work I do I constantly have to go in dirt lots with dirt flying around and trucks kicking up debris 🤦🏾
I’m hoping to interlock my hair! Looking to debut my baby locs on my channel soon!
I started with comb coils and retwisted for 2 months, but because my hair is soft and thin (made a great fro) I went to interlocking due to my profession and it helped hide my frizz. My husband interlocked me over 2 months ago and I just love the freedom of no retwist.
My locks are 11 years old and the length is to my rear end. They are medium size. My hair I think is 3a or b. I’ve palm rolled my entire journey but I’ve been really considering interlocking because the locks are sooooo frizzy. My hesitation is I am super tender headed and I’ve heard it’s painful. I’d like to schedule a consultation with you in the near future I’m close to lake Nona. Thanks
Niki
I started my Locs June 22 and Started interlocking 3 weeks later because I didn’t like the puffy roots look and I wanted to go longer without getting Re twist.
I am a newbie and decided to start my journey with extentions, I found retwisting does not work for me, I do not want to want to use gels, my retwist didn't last without keeping it in a style and since I started my journey after years of being natural and having a TWI, I can't keep my hair bound up, so solution was to softly crochet my newgrowth to train it to lock. then I interlock my roots just to bring in the loose hairs.
Are you accepting interlock appointments in Orlando? I have already started with the retwists, but I think I want to convert to interlocking.
Thanks great info.
I have started to loc my hair, as of June 2020, so about 3 mos. My hair is very soft at the roots and very curly at the ends. The ends are beginning to intertwine, but the roots won’t stay. It sounds like inter locking may be right for me, but I DEFINITELY don’t feel comfortable doing it myself. I am curious as to where you are located?
Both of my daughter's have locs. Both are two strand and both have thick hair. This month makes two years for them. I decided to do two years of twisting and then introduce interlocking in Jan. I dont put alot of strain on their scalps. I only get them retwisted every two months. And in between i buy cute scarfs, headwraps, headbands etc. I have to get a good rhythm going with the interlocking. I just wanna be as careful as possible. Do you think I should rotate between the two. For instance, month 1 interlocking month 3 retwist month 5 interlock 7 retwist. And so forth? Or should I try interlocking for the next two years and introduce a rotation between the two on year 5?
Hi. I started my locs about 6 years ago. The person started off with two strand twists and then interlocking. I have noticed thinning at my crown and my hair does not grow into the loc. Which causes thinning at the base. I’m on the fence of cutting them off at this point.
My question to u is ... how often should I wash my hair . I started my lock July last year so it’s 6mths I started on my own just 3 strands and as they loose I did some 2 strands some is loosing all the time and it’s taking forever to lock,,, what should I do.? I am doing it for spiritual reason so I don’t want to rush it or let anyone else in my hair
I interlock because I have micro locs and it works best. I love the look of both techniques though.
I love both as well!
I started with comb coils but my hair is thick and soft so it took me longer to loc. When i was a year in i got mine interlocked and loved it and have not looked back. I interloc mostly but if it was not 3 months and i needed them cleaned up i will palm roll. So i guess i do both
Hey I was thinking about doing this. Palm rolling between interlocking sessions, and was wondering if you have had any problems with doing both. Right now I would have to get my hair done every two months but was hoping to stretch it to 3 months.
I thought about it but my first loctician (she moved) didn't recommend it. I would like to go longer between appointments and feel that method would be better. My second loctician (she moved as well) didn't do it. Now I'm searching for another loctician in my area. I don't want to be forced/have to learn to retwist my own hair.
I was deadly afraid of interlocking. It looked so complicated at first so I tried retwisting. The retwisting did not work me. I have super thick hair that does not want to be twisted. Plus I didnt want to use a ton of product in order for it to “hold”. I workout a lot. Plus I don’t mind the puffiness/new growth. And I only interlock every 3-4 months.
I've been getting my dreads palm rolled for a year and 4 months and I'm having the same issue by my hair being so thick so this is definitely informational and helpful my next appointment I'm going with interlocking
This tool helps form Locs I recently went from retwist to interlocking in my loctician is having issues with my ends because they're still Twisted she wants to cut them off I said no absolutely not I think this tool will work good for me for my ends I don't like them poofy I don't want any bumps or lumps can you please help me
OMG I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS I WOULD RETWIST WITH PRODUCTS BUT I WOULD GET BUILD UP AND IT WOULD NOT LAST AT ALL UNTIL I START INTERLOCKING I LOVE IT SO MUCH AND MAKES MY HAIR THICKER AND IT DOESN'T COME UNDONE AND I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BUILD UP
i have really small locs, I've been Palm rolling for about 2 years. but my locs are thinnnig at the root and some are see though on certain spots and look brittle. do you think Interlocking would help fix that problem?
My question is
Is interlocking better for 4c hair rather than retwisting. I'm 5 months loc"d but my new growth isn't locing
Interloc because my hair grows away from my locs. Doing this allows me to pick up all the strays and stays together longer and stops it from breaking.
Interlock baby!💯
I switched to interlocking because I work out a lot and I have scalp issues which requires me to use prescription strength shampoo weekly. All the washing and retwisting started to cause breakage. Interlocking I can treat my scalp and not worry about any unraveling. It's worked great so far & now that my scalp is healing I'm still going to continue interlocking my hair
Dang, I guess I will switch back to interlocking. I have fine high density hair and my roots won't loc. I think it's making my locs thin too.
