Why Are Athletes Launching Event Leagues?

This week marked the launch of two major new sporting leagues: The Snow League (led by legendary snowboarder Shaun White) and Grand Slam Track (led by Michael Johnson). Both athletes are bringing refreshed event concepts to their sports - and both event series boast extremely large prize purses ($1.5m for The Snow League and $12m for Grand Slam Track).
