      FULL SPACE USABILITY WITH MIX AND MATCH STARTING FULL SIZE LUGGAGES AND ADDING FOR WHATS LEFT SMALLER SIZE LUGGAGES WHEN THIRD ROW IS UP AND IN A 6 SEAT CONFIGURATION WHEN ONLY ONE OF THE THIRD ROW SEATS WOULD BE UP. FYI, just got kneel mode updated. Only works in all purpose and Conserve. As soon as you set it to park, the vehicle lowers. You can disable the vehicle lowering from the steering wheel if necessary. You can enable or disable kneel mode in settings.
    It's really seamless since you can barely feel the vehicle lowering or rising because it doesn't rise until you reach a certain mph.

    Thanks for the great reviews. I feel like the reviews of the Rivian are generally skewed towards the positive and often for good reasons. That said, would be great to get your take on what you don’t get with a Rivian that you would expect in a $90K+ “adventure vehicle.” A few things I’ve noticed:
    Lane keep assist (when not on pre mapped roads). It’s unclear to me if that is available outside of “Driver Assist.” I ask because most cars today provide lane keep assist without a pre mapped road constraint. There's a lot of adventures on off the beaten track roads...
    Full size spare - I don’t think you can call an SUV a true adventure vehicle without one.
    Range - I haven’t heard anything lately about the 400+ mile extra-large pack for the R1S. While I agree charging infrastructure will improve, I don’t think that solves the problem of EV vs ICE for long road trips to remote locations. We’re years away from that being as ubiquitous and easy as gas.
    A few buttons - Don’t think all touch screen is as safe as having some buttons. I much prefer the way Jeep has integrated touch screens with traditional buttons.
    Panoramic roof - would you prefer something that had a sliding cover like old school moon roofs.
    Glove compartment, Poor quality cameras, Rear view mirror that provides rear camera view
    Also interested at some point in thoughts re accessories.
    Center console. For those of us that want more usable space between the front seats, something that provides additional cup holders, trays, while also providing open or closed storage below it.
    For those that don’t care about a camp speaker, what other accessories could go there (small cooler?).
    I’m coming from a Landcruiser so you could check out sites like Slee Offroad for great off roading and overlanding items:
    Rock rails, drawer systems, rear tire mounting systems, winches, etc.
    BTW - many of the above add a lot of weight which further argues for an extra larger battery pack.

    Kyle I have the 20’s and they are impressive… makes the S look much tougher… I also have an RR Sport with 22s so I’m used to that look and feel yet believe the S needs the 20s for the look … on another point … slamming it from a dead stop 😂… noticed that if I happen to hit a small bump or what not the S will porpoise a wee bit … the first time it happened I couldn’t pin point what I was feeling other than slightly sea sick 😂… my theory is it’s so damn heavy that the suspension cannot handle the harmonic action from all the momentum caused by that bump impulse .. as a slight ding I’ve never felt anything like that in the RR sport but it’s over 2k lbs lighter … I’d like to know if you can replicate what I’m experiencing, and that’s in Sport mode lowest height. One measurement I have not seen anyone do is the interior length from rear lower tailgate all the way to the infotainment screen, as well as to the front windshield. The measurement would be useful for folks who load long objects such poles, paddles, or a 10’ longboard surfboard by folding down the 3rd row and 2nd row middle seat pass through.

    Most car seat friendly seats don’t matter because you can’t use latch once a child reaches 35-45 lbs depending on the car seat so using the belt is the only option. It’s works ok if the belt is integrated into the seat but when it’s on the pillar it doesn’t matter for 3rd row access. Then they have to go through the hatch or climb over.

    Good intro review. Don’t quite understand the reason for the split rear hatch? I guess if one had something long it might not slide out to the rear as easily with the lower hatch closed?? The big bump in the rear floor with all the seats down seems like a miss for convenience for use of the area. Makes it difficult to slide things in from the rear towards the middle row seats. Also, for loading lumber. What’s the width and length of the rear area. Can one carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood or Sheetrock? What’s the loading height dimensions to the rear of the “tailgate” with the suspension at its lowest vs. highest? Thanks again.

    In "Pet Comfort", are the driver's (and front passenger's) window switches disabled? With my Tesla, in "Dog Mode" Manchester Terrier rolls down the windows for my other two dogs to hop out and run into traffic. I refuse to leave my dogs in the car alone because of that. I've been begging to have all the window switches disabled in Dog Mode, but so far, no dice.
    And before anyone suggests it, "Window lock" can be overridden by the driver's position window switches, even in Dog Mode. The front passenger's window also operates with window lock activated.

    please also for the first time check how good the trip planner works, especially with respect to prediction of energy consumption based on terrain, speed, weather,... I dont care so much about the average consumption on a specific road but more how good the planner finally works for longer trips and how reliable it works

      From what I gather from Rivian forums it’s not great and nothing like Tesla’s. Not entirely rivian’s fault since they have to rely on 3rd party charging networks. So you’ll still have to reply on ABRP and PlugShare for road-tripping, unlike tesla. With time it will get better but that will take years.

    • @miami3863
      @miami3863 Год назад

      @@mattbrew11 you can go back and forth with which one is better. But the simplicity and convenience of Tesla’s native onboard route planner is still unmatched. ABRP is good but then most people also use PlugShare to confirm if the chargers are open or if they’re any good. And then a dozen apps to charge. To EV enthusiasts that’s fun. To the general public that’s a turnoff.

    Wish you guys could compare this vehicle to the Land Rover lr3/4 regarding 2nd and 3rd row headroom and highway comfort.
    Think it’s a shame the R1S didn’t keep the same wheel base as the R1T and just shortened length by just 1 foot instead of 2. That would have allowed for square second row doors and made reaching the 3rd row easier, full one piece windows that fully open, and probably maintained similar towing capability of the R1T. Also it’s a complete miss to not have the 3rd row powered like literally all other manufacturers (hell my 2011 Lincoln Navigator L has it).
    Guess I will be waiting for the EV version of the ford expedition max or Lincoln Navigator L.
    For car reviews considering babies, check out “the car mom” she raves about the ford expedition and Lincoln Navigator.

    I have an etron like yall...well, this is my third etron 🥴 and my question is: Is the quality level in this car the same as the etron? I don't want hard plastics, or hollow sounding panels......I love the etron because of how everything I touch--even down to the knee pads in the center console for the front seats-- are leather and feel great.
    The R1S seems like a Premier level Tahoe or Denali GMC....but it doesn't feel look like it competes with a luxury German/British SUV

    • @iMaxPatten
      @iMaxPatten Год назад

      I would say part of that is by design; it’s rugged and cheaper feeling than out and out luxury products because it has this “adventure” vibe going on. The materials feel high quality and durable but not soft. Door quality and mechanical parts seemed really solid and up to par with price rivals like the German products. Functionally though, the manual second and third row seats will feel cheaper compared to the competition.

HOW MANY PIECES CAN GO IN INCLUDING WITH THE EXTRA SPACE IN THE FRONT TRUNK AND THE ADDITIONAL SPACE TAKING OUT THE SPARE TIRE UNDERNEATH THE FLOOR.

  • @jmleon92

    I wonder if the towing capacity is reduced due to the added weight of the bigger cabin, and extra seats compared to the R1T. This additional weight would reduce payload capacity, and in turn, decrease the towing capacity overall. Also, they could be accounting for 6 adults in the SUV while towing, which would again, eat into the payload, and therefore the towing capacity.
