    I’ve bought my X100F 4 years or so ago and honestly, it’s the best camera I own. Period. It’s also the one I find myself reaching out for more often and without even thinking about it. The ease of use, how small and compact it is and the fixed lens make it a no brainier for me to carry around everywhere. It’s refreshing to see a RUclipsr making a video of “old” gear instead of pushing only what’s new. Kudos for that. Great video! 🙌

    Still using mine, and it's still going strong. Out of all the camera I've owned, it's my all-time favorite. Light and compact, very powerful, serves its purpose, great quality, and I got it for a great price before the hype caught on.

    The X100f is my daily carry camera. I love it to death and still use it for professional work. The black and whites you can get out this camera are astounding. Though I struggle with dialing in color in camera, that just means there's all the more room to grow.

      Color will always be more difficult to edit, but it's also the most fulfilling when you get it just as you like it!

    I took a short photography course a few years ago, and after discussing how to make my images look more filmic I was recommended the x100f. I bought it in March 2020 and a week later the UK went into lockdown and I rarely left the house for 18 months. I still haven't picked up the camera and was really beginning to regret making such a big purchase but your video has definitely inspired to get it out of the box and give it a go.

    over the last year, i've been shooting, experimenting, and falling in love with film, and i've been super curious about shooting digital while still getting that "film-like" feel. with the rise of the x100v and it being sold out everywhere, i've been looking into and researching for some alternatives!
    this video was beautifully filmed and extremely informative. thank you!

    x100f is perfect. the V came out months after I bought the F and I remember feeling so bummed out but in hindsight I'm so happy this is the camera I have from this series. It's the perfect "just get out there and shoot" camera

    I love when new cameras come out, because it means that there will be a lot of second hand cameras to choose from 😂. I’m only doing photography as a hobby and posting on Instagram, I don’t need the latest and greatest. I think even if a camera is 7-8 years old the technology behind it is still good.

  • @ChrisTurnerPhotographer

    I purchased the x100f some years ago and loved it but ended up selling it because of the fixed focal length. I recently purchased the x100s from mpb and they sent me a x100v for some reason! Long story short I will always love the x100 series cameras. The film sims and simplicity of shooting gives you an experience I have never gotten from using any other camera.

    • @adiconcepts

    I feel you on touchscreens. The x100v's loss of the D-pad and dependence upon cellphone-like touchscreen gestures made it a non-starter for me no matter the improved lens. My 100f renewed in me my love of photography. It (or my GR3x) is my everyday carry into the world whether I'm on a neighborhood walkabout or travelling cross-country.

    • @kubowich
      @kubowich 2 года назад

      What gestures? Why D-pad? All you need is ISO dial, shutter dial and aperture control. Set your metering method and focus method and there you go. You absolutely do not need nor d-pad, nor the gestures

    I bought an X100F to get back into photography about a year ago. Completely sold me on Fujifilm digital photography. I bought an X-T4 recently, but my X100F is still my take-everywhere camera. Channels like yours inspired me to take the leap on both cameras! If Fujifilm decides to add IBIS on the sixth X100, I might consider upgrading, but I dont find the flip out screen or sharpness of the new 23mm wide open worth it for me. Love the d-pad on both cameras.

    I’ll never forget a comment I read when researching the x100f years ago. Something along the lines of (to not misquote), every important photograph to me, was taken on an x100. Holds true, with a full canon suit, other fujis, the x100f has taken nearly every important photograph to me, because it is always with me. Around the house, every outing with the kids, and the fact it’s just a camera & only around a grand means I’m in the moment but also not restricted by the potential risk to the camera like I would be holding 2k-3k L glass over a lake, etc. Immensely fulfilling purchase for the last couple years

      That should do the opposite. If an older camera is raising in price, buy it now at whatever price is comfortable, and sell later for probably the same price you bought it for if not more. lol trust me, I did the same with the xpro2, and ended up spending $200 more than what I originally wanted to spend, and since then the price has gone up $100 since I bought it. I fortunately did not do this with my Pentax 67, and that thing has gotten crazy high in price, I bought a near mint one as a pandemic project in 2020 for $540. I also cry every day about not buying a contaxt t3, for its now almost doubled in price from when I wanted to buy one and thought to wait for it to come back down... so ha just my two cents, if you really want it, and the camera isn't made anymore, go for it, it will increase in price regardless.

    Really enjoyed this. I've owned an X100s and also X100F, and TBH I've been keeping my eye out for a X100V, but I think I might go back to the F and use it more, as I haven't really given it much love lately. • @scottrgarland
      @scottrgarland 2 года назад +1

      @@federicor9956 The lens is fixed which means it is not detachable. However I do enjoy both options, being forced to use one focal length gets you moving and seeing your shots differently. If you’re looking for a similar camera with a detachable lens I’d suggest the Fujifilm X-E3 or X-E4. The sensor in these things is incredible!!

    • @scottrgarland
      @scottrgarland 2 года назад +1

      @@federicor9956 Yes! There's a built in Digital Teleconverter Zoom and you can set the focus ring to being the digital zoom. However all the camera is doing is cropping in to the sensor to achieving the zoom. Or you have the option of getting the x100F teleconverter lens attachment as well.

    I still shoot with the first real camera I owned, my Olympus OM-10 35mm I got in 1981. I also shoot a few TLRs that are quite a bit older than I am. Age in a camera, film or digital, isn’t really a concern. Neither is image quality. The most important thing is the thing behind the viewfinder. Your photos prove that.
    Nice video and nice shots.
    And I still use my X100F. Never saw the need to get the ‘V’. I have an Olympus EM.5.2 with a handful of decent lenses to fill my craving for various focal lengths (and small package).

  • @scottallen6172

    Nice review. I bought the 100T years ago, precisely because I tired of carrying my heavy and large Nikon DSLR with multiple lenses. Fujifilm solved my problem One camera, light, small, one lens, slow down 'retro analog', no lens choices to make, always with me. I loved it. My T is very special to me. BUT...I reached a point a couple of years ago when I felt the need to expand my lens horizons. So I bought the X-T30. Also small, light, came with $50 15-45 (very sharp low to mid range). I enjoyed expanding my options to the wide angle. I bought a used 55-200 for those occasions I needed telephoto (rarely used but handy when I need it), and the 35 1.4 for low light (fantastic lens). I think I actually prefer the 35/50 focal length over the 23/35. Now I have a total of 5 lenses (16 2.8 and Viltrox 56, a good lens but rarely used)! Kinda back to where I was before the 100T. But I love the 35 1.4 lens and its perspective, and I've 'replaced' the 15-45 (kept in reserve) with the 16 2.8. When I travel, I travel light. So for my style of photography, I mostly carry my X-T30 with the 16 and 35. The X100T and other lenses, I'll only bring when they fit the trip. I can't predict the future, but sometimes I think I should just move on to the next 'X100 VI' and return to simple. But honestly, my X100T continues to take great photos.

    I still use my X100S every day, and have resisted upgrading to the newer X100 versions. Simply speaking, I am happy with my 16 MP sensor. Sure 24 MP maybe better, but how much better? if you look at the differences between the F and the S, you find that the major change is the shutter speed 1/32000 instead of my 1/4000. Now, how often do you need 1/32000?
    The major improvement that I would maybe look for is autofocus accuracy. The X100S has a hard time focusing where I want it to. But from what I read, the newer versions have only improving for portraits faces and eyes.
    Well, I don't shoot people's portait. So I am good with the way I need to work with the autofocus. All the other features of my X100S are just as good as any of the other versions, MP difference excepted.
    Therefore, instead of spending on overpriced F, try a T which has face recognition if that is what you need. For me the X100S is still going to be with me for years to come!!!

    If you want a really film like experience I would recommend an x-e2. They are relatively cheap, the colors you get out of it are amazing too! It’s a bit limited in terms of film sim options but that’s to be expected tbh. For $275 I was able to get a “new” in box version. Very good looking images paired with the sigma 30mm f1.4 and any manual lens if you’re into that!

      Man even those are harder to come by in the EU rn. Fuji has not been able to ship many camera's to the EU during the pandemic, let alone anything under 1000 euro's. So even those are in high demand. Could find one for 450 usd, tested without a lens and 'it works great'... hmmm. Good tip though, really nice camera and many people love those older Fuji sensors. Recently I learn a very important lesson: the sharpness and the features (like AF and IBIS) have not to do with good photography. Not, even in the digital camera era. I show photos taken by a very old Leica M8 with a 10mp CCD sensor and they looking amazing! For me the most important is the character of a camera or lens rather than the specs. A camera with certain character makes you more motivated to shoot better.

    Well said about lack of buttons. The whole reason I got a X100F in the first place was because it had buttons and dials , instead of menu dives and screens. My Nikon Z6ii has a touch screen. But I don't use it very much. It's nice it's there but does it have to be one or the other?

    Is there any big difference in the image quality between x100t and x100v? X100v it’s too expensive right now and I was wondering if is worth the wait to buy the x100v or just buy a x100t now?

    Freeing yourself from this idea that you always need the newest equipment is one of the best things that has happened to me in recent years. As I look. to invest more in the experiences I want to take pictures of rather than the equipment I use to take pictures with makes up for a better photographer experience in my case. I currently have an X-pro2 with a 23mm f2 lens (to try and get the x100 experience) and I gotta say I love it to death. I really don't see me ever getting rid of this camera. Professionally I also use a rather old body (Nikon d750) and have found it to be more than enough for what I do.

    I used to shoot on dslr and I gotta admit that I really miss having more buttons for quick navigation when I switched to Fuji, in terms of settings especially when I’m shooting manual. That being said, I still love the colors coming straight outta Fuji. No other camera does sooc this way. I turned off my touchscreen function coz it’s not as accurate as the screen on our phone.
    Last but not least, thank you for giving us new content. Great stuff as always.

    I watch you since the first video came out and I'm kinda amazed how you has grown at making videos and photography itself. Your every video is another good reason to go out and shoot. Just thank you for what you're doing. It inspires a lot.
    Btw I was recently considering to get one of the X100F from used market but the prices in Russia start from $1000 which is kinda expensive for me right now. So I decided to stay with my trusty x-e2 and buy 23mm lens and GoPro 9, which will give more opportunities to create a content. As you said, camera is just a tool by the end of the day 👌

    Awesome video as always man. I’m still using my 5 year old canon T7i, which is the camera I bought 5 years ago when I starred shooting. People are shocked that I’m still using it calling it ancient, but I’ve honestly grown accustomed to it and love working with it’s limitations to be more creative. I’ll definitely be upgrading at some point in the future, but I’m no rush.

    • @forneverarrow
      @forneverarrow 2 года назад

      I have the same camera alongside a 6D MK2 and believe me, no one can tell what photo is shot by T7i or its full frame sibling. I am using the same lenses (ok, I have invest in very expensive glass) and the only difference is the noise on very dark situations. Otherwise, the images with the right editing are looking the same. Don’t feel bad about your camera. The only limitation is the idea in our heads that our cameras are old…

    Little racap for fuji F you want the 35 mm look you need to buy a 21 mm lens since your crop factor is 1.6

    Of course you can use the X100F in 2022. The X100V feels better in the hands but it lacks the D-pad which has a lot of customizable buttons. I really miss them and I don't understand why they removed them in the V. It was not the case that the F was overloaded with buttons.

    I'm still using a second hand XT2 and the only thing i want from the newer models are the settings to save individual white balance settings for each custom settings.
