    Every one of these Fab shows I see, I say the same thing to Hagerty: Please start doing hour long shows! Tom does SUCH an amazing job on these. Tom, how about coming North into Canada and doing a series in Vancouver/Edmonton? I have heard there is a huge barn find cars in Victoria on Vancouver Island too. You and your Hagerty crew would LOVE laid back Victoria.

    Another nice video,thanks for taking us along for the ride. Although it is not my favorite ,that mid to late '70's Chevelle/Malibu w/T-Tops caught my eye. I'm also seeing a trend here in that some of the folks are starting to guage their time versus how much they/we have left,and are coming to terms with the inevitable decision to part with their lifetime collection. Still ,theres nothing like going "Scrounging " for cars to keep one youthfull . One of my latest regrets was not following up on a '66 Tri-Power Pontiac GP.

    Hey Tom, while you were looking at the yellow beetle convertible you totally ignored the dusty Maserati 425 parked next to it. These Biturbos are becoming rare and those in good condition, without rust, original interior and good mechanicals are definitely worth saving! I know they had a bad reputation but I've owned several fuel-injection variants of the Biturbo including the later 24-valve models not sold in the USA (much more reliable than earlier carb versions) and they never failed to put a smile on my face. Great sound, great interior, Porsche-baiting performance back in the day. Definitely future classics, don't ignore them next time!

    When I was 18 I ordered a new 1975 Camaro setup the way I wanted but at the Chevy/Buick dealership they had a Bricklin sitting out front. The story behind it was the dealer paid a huge premium for it thinking it would increase floor traffic for the dealership. A lot of people liked the looks of it but it never sold. One of the salesmen told me the performance was not too great. I do remember the windshield was supposed to be easy to kick out if you had a rollover. The car was still there when the dealership went under in the recession in 1983. I still have a picture of me taking possession of my new '75 Camaro and you can see the green Bricklin in the background.

    • @queenofyeay
      @queenofyeay 7 лет назад

      Yep, I remember the Bricklin there was a few driving around back in the day... I was pretty surprised when I spotted a yellow Bricklin in my neighbors driveway on the corner... It used to run and drive because I'd see it moved or missing, then it would be back. It was there for at least twenty years and it still may be there, but I haven't looked for it in a while.

      Take a Bricklin over a DeLorean any day, Bricklin has a fiberglass body with a steel perimeter frame and a 351 Windsor where as the Delorean has a stainless steel body on a fiberglass frame with a pathetic V6.

    • @vettekid3326
      @vettekid3326 7 лет назад +2

      I agree with you on the performance side but back in the day what I really wanted besides a Corvette was a DeTomaso Pantera. The local Lincoln Mercury dealer sold them and they looked great and sounded great and unlike the Bricklin it used the ZF transaxle if liked shifting and back then all real sports cars had manual transmissions. Sadly insurance for an eighteen year old for that would have been about 2 grand a year compared to the $170.00 a year I was paying for the Camaro I spec'd out with 350, 4 speed, posi traction and handling package.

    • @queenofyeay
      @queenofyeay 7 лет назад +2

      The DeLorean didn't just have a pathetic V6, it was a minuscule one too! It was a 174 cubic inch Renault engine. Probably making 100 hp at the wheels (or less).

    My first car was a 1957 VW Beetle very similar to the one in the video, I was 16yrs old and didn't have a drivers license and used to drive it to my girlfreinds as she lived a long way from home, it struggle to get up some of the steep roads but had a great heater, which some of the cars I had after that didn't have. It was the only VW I have ever owned. My parents didn't know I had it until the registration papers came in the mail.......as a result I was told to sell it, would be good to have it now if I did I fit a LS1 in it to get up those steep roads.

Cheapest gas I ever bought was 17 cents gal. in L.A. Ca. I have bought some old cars for $50 bucks to 350.00. Those were good years in the 50s, just loved my life and will always remember the 50s.

    The only problem with that '56 Gasser is that it's a Garbage Motors produced chevy....they're junk....now if it was a Ford or Plymouth or Mercury, that'd be different....and aside from the obvious figment and gap issues, that Bricklin is badass as it came with the most tunable small block ever built, the Ford 351 Cleveland....

      Where i'm from in Europe, you could pick up E30 M3's for 10-15k in the late 90's, early 2000's. It was that period where it's just an old M3, not considered a classic yet. Basically where E36 M3's are now, I don't see them becoming as popular tho, i'm not too fond of the E36.

    • @distant03
      @distant03 7 лет назад

      Anders Kristensen the e36 M3 is the least "M3" of all M3's, in the sense that it's the only one which did not see extensive exterior modifications like flared fenders and all the good stuff the e30 and the others after ir got. It's a great car, but it's overshadowed by the mythic e30 and also mythic e46, which is regarded by some as the best one ever made. It'll probably stay as the least valuable M3, which means it's probably the best one to buy if you're just looking for a fun car without getting into the whole "collectible" thing.

  • @bricklinhh3481
    @bricklinhh3481 7 лет назад +1

    You are a little mixed up about the Bricklins. Decent ones are going for 2.5 to 3 times their purchase price and are increasing in popularity. The one you looked at was a little abused. They are the only gull wing door car that the windows roll all the way down. If rolled over you can get out of the window or the hatch depending on how the car lands. If you have a Delorean the rear window is sealed and the side windows are too small to crawl out of. They have aluminum side crash beams in the doors and a bird cage type passenger compartment with huge energy absorbing bumpers. They are a pleasure to drive, have a killer muscle car sound, with a turning circle better than a Volkswagen, they have factory A/C, and turn more heads than any other car. Take one for a drive and it is like a moving car show. It can't get any better than that! Try one out.

    I love Bricklins. Drove one at a dealership I worked at in the 70s and it woulda been my forever car if I had the money back then. Tell the guy with the 30 mile car, I'll pay him what he bought it for gladly.

    I believe the "safety issue" of VW buses earned them the nickname the German hearse.

    Sorry Tom, that VW Transporter is pre 1967. In '67, VW equipped the bugs and the buses with reversing (back-up) lamps as it was mandated by the Feds for all models sold in the U.S. The bus shown had none and no holes above the taillight.

    Looking at the old VW bus and Beetles I can remember back in the mid 60's gas was like 5 cents a gallon and if they had a gas war you could get a gallon of regular for 3 cents a gallon. Back in my day we didn't have Premium rather Ethel. Yep I swear what I have written was true back then I was a young teenager and had a Moped from Sears.
