- Barn Find Hunter Tom Cotter has been hunting cars since he was 12 and has discovered more than his share of hidden gems. So when he says, “This is what dreams are made of,” you can take it to the bank.
In BFH, episode 20, presented by Shell and Quaker State, Tom heads to South Carolina and gets more than he bargained for. First, he admires the remains of a rare 1953 Woodill Wildfire, one of approximately 300 built by Dodge and Willys dealer Blanchard Robert “Woody” Woodill in Downey, Calif. Tom checks out a 1967 Porsche 912 and a 1947 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special when things get a little wild-literally.
After driving to North Carolina to visit old friend Steve Davis, a former member of Dale Jarrett’s NASCAR team, Tom strolls through a car-filled building that Steve claims “is longer than a football field.” He isn’t kidding. Tom also admires a barn full of Jaguars-from an XK140 roadster to an XKE 2+2-and inspects a 1932 Chevrolet moonshine car, complete with a bullet hole in the rear window.

Arguably one of the best "car shows" on RUclips
Lino Mogorovic agreed. Keep it up Hagerty
Oh yes - i also love it - and the music is perfect
not arguably, it is the best
Tom has inspired me to barn find hunt...lot's of places to look here in Maine
Lino Mogorovic I
LOL that opossum! Imagine being sound asleep in your pile of leaves and all of a sudden, your house opens up and you fall out while being filmed.
I am from the uk 🇬🇧 and so enjoy watching these shows, I knew nothing about American cars until I started watching, I feel I have learnt a lot and love the passion you guys have for the old stuff, I have watched every episode and wait to see news ones, I searched and found my own barn find three cars on a farm in a barn that had been sat for 12 years I bought them and have recommissioned one and half way through the next. This programme is pure inspiration keep it up guys!!!! 👍
Awesome! What cars did you find? Which one is up and running and which one is the current project? It would be great if you could share your story and some photos on our new forums at forums.hagerty.com!
Guessing a Ford pop
Some people are truly wealthy.... This guy has 12 buildings full of junk cars and bikes, with a lot of gems in it. Id take an E-type all day
It's lovely the see that incredible big block, manual/stick shift County Squire again, what an incredibly cool and rather unique wagon...
On one of Tom's episodes, he show how he acquired it.
I love this serie.
There is nothing like that in my country. :/
The best you can find would be an old USSR automobile that is not worth the money to take to the crusher.
id104335409 looool
There is, you just need to find them, really.
I drove past Lago D'Iseo in Italy last summer, apparently in the neighborhood houses a mid 30's fiat..
There's some cool old commie cars, sure there's no fords, jags and so on but the commies did make the odd good car
I was a dale jarrett fan ever since he was with interstate battery
I can’t understand why people have to have these cars just to rot away and still won’t sell a car or a handle????
Amazing video. BTW I love your Country Squire.
The guy in Maggie Valley is a hoarder. It's a shame those cars and bikes don't get to be used and are just rotting away. Another great episode!
Think of all the other cars and motorcycles he -didn't- buy 30 years ago - you know, all the ones that were crushed and now no longer exist! Maybe there's some value to keeping them in barns after all....
MrZep420 why keep hording them then?
yep he's a hoarder..probably need a scoop shovel to clean his bedroom..very dirty old man!
Chad Simmons I know a pilot named Chad Simmons.....
It’s really amazing what is sitting in random barns. It’s also a bit said that this stuff just might be scrapped one day since most of these people don’t want to sell this stuff and some of these guys are up there in age.
Are these people really saving these cars... I feel they are just hording them into an early grave of rust and dust.
It's like buying all the antique furniture when it's cheap then leaving it all to rott.
Its great to see you driving the 428 manual wagon , i guess you own it
I want to buy it!
It actually appeared in one of the episodes and it is a 1/1 car ever made.
yes
You can't have a better "sleeper".Get the picture: Tom sitting at a red light, kid comes up in the next lane in his 'stang and laughs at him " Yo sir, ya drive your Granny's car! yuk yuk!" And then Tom nails it... End of story. :-))))
Plenty diff ratios out there ))
Maggie Valley is simply beautiful. Not too far from me, either.
Lots to see and do there besides cars as well.
...only that opossum is taking advantage of that much room to sleep in 👻
What's the point of owning all those cars if you're just going to leave them outside exposed to all the elements to slowly rot away? I don't understand these people. If you truly love cars then why not at least try to keep them in a somewhat reasonable condition? Such a waste.
cuz it costs time and money.
Dreamers, watching out for good deals, even freebee’s.
I know people are kinda nutty about cars at least sell some of them but they have mental block on selling they need Prozac then have a yard sale!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its a mental condition of some kind, hoarding-like. They must not realize that once they are gone to the other side, all this old stuff will most likely be scrap metal ... kind of sad.
"once they have gone to the other side". there are no luggage racks on Hearsts ....... @@dandaman4985
this is so interesting you could make much longer episodes! i could watch that for hours and listen to the storys of these old beauties.
Man every young boy should have to watch this series. So much history in those cars and stories of how they were purchased. I could watch this all day!
. Im 15 too and i like this also
I hope Hagerty has realised that this series should become one of the most people, if not already the most popular on their channel. Keep at it. Plenty of finds to be had!! I'd love to see some sort of restoration show also.
You must be from across the pond.. it's relize in the US
Wayne Carini has been doing this on TV for almost 20 years. This show really reminds me of Chasing Classic Cars a lot. I love that this show is more raw and shows all kids of cars. Not just 2 million dollar Duesenbergs stutzs and Rolls Royce.
Love this channel! Thank you for bringing me (living in Switzerland) a chance to see these amazing finds.
What is the point of having 12 barns full of cars and bikes that should be sold to people that would put them back on the road (where they truly belong, and would be properly treasured) ..... what a waste
Tell you what, you and everyone like you. Buy a collection of your own and then you can do what "should be done."
Or sold to people who’ll resell them for a quick profit and drive up the prices.
This is honestly one of very few series that I've watched every video at least 30 times.
A guy from Hagerty should know better than to call all old cars "classics'' because they aren't. Look up the term or definition of a classic car. The general public thinks that any car over 10 years old is a classic. Classics are CERTAIN Cadillac's, Duesenberg's, Pierce Arrows, Chrysler's, Auburn's, Cord's, Lincoln's, etc. Expensive limited production cars then, and expensive now. Not XKE's, Mustangs, Camaro's and all of the rest. Out at 2 minutes in. Jesus....
Just amazing collections of cars and bikes, a lot is junk, but how the hell does anyone ever accrue that much stuff? Just amazing. Keep digging.
Honestly, I don't even know what the car at the 6 minute mark is, but it would be a crime to remove it from that space. Buy the barn with it, along with all the dead leaves and dirt, and put the whole thing as is in an art exhibit. That scene cannot be tampered with.
(Maybe leave the animals behind though)
Alfred Munkenbeck was thinking the same thing
That's a '47 Cadillac. Probably rusted out, sitting on the deck like that.
It deserves to get driven.
Same thoughts here.
Its absolutely heartbreaking to see these Jags sit and rot like this. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Not really. They make new old ones from the factory exactly identical to the originals. With the condition of those in the barn, the restoration cost would be as high as just buying the same car from the factory. You'd have to replace almost everything. Let them rot away.
they’re not rotting lol
I'd buy that Porsche, fix it up but not paint it because it looks really cool like that
How's the rarest station wagon in the world been treating you?
So many beautifull cars slowly rotting away. They should be preserved for all to enjoy. If I had the money I would buy a classic car.Great video.
14:00 Hercules W 2000 motorcycle Wankel-engined
Fantastic
Wow, I love those American Jagwarrs...
Did you know in England they made Jaguars, that oddly look exactly the same as those American Jagwarrs.
It's doubly weird how they named their models the exact same names also...!
Is there a way to reach out to these people and buy the cars?
I have a 1977 XJ-S. Found it in a garage and hasn’t been on the road since 1988. British racing green with camel leather. Numbers matching, 20k miles. However, it is in need of restoration. Hoping I have the opportunity to bring it back to its former glory at some point in my life.
I love this show, but it drives me crazy! So many people with beautiful cars that are completely neglected! They need to sell them to someone who will drive and appreciate it.
These places really do exist, you find them when you least expect it. I just found a corvette grave yard deep in the woods. There was a 100yr old factory building full of cars. In the middle was a 63 split window corvette. The owner had it for 40yrs. I ended up buying it. Great show. Keep on hunting!
You need a Truck to restore it completely ?
We Can....
Awesome story !
I love this channel!
Why do people who say they love cars let them rot away? Its like saying you love women and keep em chained up in the basement!!
It takes too much effort to sell them so they sit there until the owner dies, the property is sold and an auction company comes in and sells everything at 10-50% of true value.
Ya but you never buy anything
So I'm essentially 4 days late on this because this stupid RUclips didn't send me a notification even though I've specifically "told" it to as the bell is ticked.
Anyway, another lovely episode. I envy you Americans, you have so many of these old cars laying around just waiting to be saved by someone and restored. Here in Italy we don't have anything of this scale. And the few abandoned "project cars" we can find and buy are overpriced as hell because the owners think they're Ferraris worth hundreds of thousands of Euros even if they're just old Fiat 500s worth only the metal they're made of.
lost for words really. my goodness. so many treasures.
this series is SOOOO GOOD!
well you found the location for a movie length episode of barn hunter lol
E type was never one of my favourite cars But a Lotus Elan specially the 2+2 with a BRM tuned 130 HP engine n a ZF 5 speed box is Heaven Austin Healey 3000 maybe an MGA twin cam? saloon cars? the ALVIS TD 21 SPECIALLY THE DROP HEAD COUPE a convertible fit or a King MK 1 lotus Cortina will also do nicely n a Rover 2000 TC twin carb not twin cam lol i'll take any one of them n be happy cars i drove when i was working as a delivery driver, as an everyday car practicality running cost reliability its got to be the Rover in that beautiful brown colour tobacco leaf one of the best possibly the Best saloon cars in the world in the 60s
What A Waiste of Classics VERY SAD To See...
Where can I find a Barn Find Hunter shirt? like yours
Just print it on your own)
Steve Davis a man full of stories and adventures! He deserves a full 1 hour interview!!!!
Make longer episodes
thank you for saying Porsche right
I wonder how many snakes are in that place?!
rusty junk that Jay Leno couldn't afford to restore
I got a chance to meet Steve by chance when I accidently stumbled across his shop once. He is a very humble man and gave me a tour of all his cars and answered any questions I had about them.
I live only 30 or so miles from Maggie Valley. This is absolutely amazing.
i love this series,
i hope you guys can make another episode on steve's 10 other shed's of goodies he has.
If you go to Maggie Valley,
be sure to stop at Joey's Pancake house.
best breakfast in the world.
i new as soon as you said you were going to maggie valley i knew who you were going to see. i knew it wasn’t going to be dale walksler i knew it had to be this man with the jag’s and bentley, chevys, and what not sitting right off the main road. i’m glad i now know who it is
Hi l have rescued a few American cars to the uk, love to see all those barn finds, it's a little worrying that future generations will not be interested enough to rebuild or appreciate all of them. I think some of these hoarders believe they will live forever. We have a 67 Chevrolet 396 ss. 73 mach 1 351.67 cougar 302 .09 dodge challenger 6.1 hemi,
11 building full of rusty rotting crap!! What a waste. He could retire and live like a king, just selling all those bike parts on eBay. Either one of those XKE's is my dream car.
I wonder who would like my original owner, garage kept, King Midget. I was given this car, new, in the original factory crate, by my Dad in 1964. We stopped driving it in 1967 and it's been sitting in the garage ever since. It's got 1300 original miles on it.
WOW 2000 hours to build one of those kit cars? That is not far off the time that it takes to build one of those JPS Porsche 356 replicas. They say 12-24 months but usually take a weekender 3 years to build. But for me building it is most of the fun honestly.
Imagine some unsuspectin' dude drivin' his new Chevy Truck up the Mt. Pass, tryin' to pass that Squire Wagon! Love it. Sleepers are just FUN!
Linda McEntaffer
Funny !!
I like old cars but I love old motorcycles and there is chunks of gold everywhere there. Was that a Mustang peddle car next to that Honda QA50?
This was one of the best episodes ever. The story about the flood car, the Jags.. Woke up the little kid in me, just sat here in wide wonder and listened in awe.
its looks like wrong turn movie
hi just watched the vid. love it. just by chance my job in the uk is to restore mk 1 e-types (xke) for jaguar heritage. what a job.
The Woodill Wildfire was an American sports car built by Dodge and Willys dealer Blanchard Robert "Woody" Woodill from 1952 to 1958 in Downey, California. The Wildfire used a Glasspar fiberglass
Seeing those Jags just sitting there, collecting dust like that breaks my heart.
At least they’re not rotting away in somewhere like Michigan
They aren’t rotting.....Just dusty. He keeps them in the condition he finds them, and puts them inside buildings. Better than rotting outside. Eventually, he will see them to folks who will fully restore them. But until then, he is the caretaker of history.
YES IT RETURNS THE OLD SPORTS WAGON!
oh nice old 40's caddy, dah! with birds and under the hood ahh live possuim!
yep, we british made a car that ferrari him self, the guy that makes and is mister ferrari said "the e type jag is a beautiful car" and that is what sealed the deal on so meny jags, ferrari said it was beautiful so i want one! and after that jags were popuar until the 80's when sadly they fell in popuarness
Everything is dark... A better lighting would have done better for the viewers... But I am big of hagerty.... Big thumbs up....
16:40 North Carolina Moonshine and NASCAR are all synonymous... !!!
Have you known Steve Davis long and has he been living in Maggie Valley a long time. The reason I am asking you this but when I lived in Maggie Valley we went to a church there where the Pastors last name was Davis and his name was Steve , We became good friends. He had a Suzuki 90 dirt bike and a Suzuki 185. .We would get on the bikes and ride all over the mountains. .One time when we went riding we found a house out in the middle of no where. .In this house there was a bunch of antiques. Old windup telephone. Old brass feather beds and a lot of other things. If you do talk to him and he is the Steve Davis I knew back then tell him George Burke said hello. Also mention the Copper Kettle Steak House. He can always reach me through writing comments through your site. That would be super cool if he is the same guy I was friends with back then
My grandfather used to run Moonshine from KCK to St. Louis & Chicago.
I sent you a photo last yr of a pic of my dad. With a car like your yellow wagon but it was in Africa during ww2 and it was shipped back to NY .was Red Cross donut car and given to to his group after the ( the girls ) were evac. out of the area. Could be your car.
Did you see this pic?
My father owned a restraunt in Maggie Valley in the 60 s and 70 s The name of the restraunt was. The Copper Kettle. The Worlds Best Steak And Seafood House
I didnt realize the jag 2+2 roof is higher I always thought they looked taller but couldnt put my finger on it
Sad to see that 912 Porsche
Is that his Country Squire with a 4-SPEED?! Awesome...
imagine a auction to buy the 365' barn wth everything in it,that would be interestiing to see the price
God help us, another idiot hoarder. Hey "Bob" how do you justify leaving these rare collectible cars outside to rot? I'd be really embarrassed when someone comes along to make a video of me being so careless.
Love this show, and the hood possum. Opossum? Possum?
This is a pure shame. All these collectibles sitting in this guys garage and left to rot. He has convinced himself that he will work on them one day.
That day will never ever arrive. He is way to busy collecting junk to pile on top.
Feel sorry for that guy with the 11 buildings kids. they are the ones that are going to have to deal with the cleanup when he croaks in a few years. They'll wind up going broke cleaning up his junk and getting rid of it.
Can't watch selfish people letting these old cars just rust away, there are skilled people all over America who could buy these and rebuild them!
If your looking for another place to film I know where at least 100 old cars are. In between Morehead and indianola Mississippi on hwy 82
I don´t know what is wrong with these people, who collect these magnificent cars ....only to let them rot so long until you can barely restore them.Makes me angry so much.
Tom, get a car with seat belts, you'll live long enough to make another series.
I'm not even much of a car guy and I find that guys collection fucking heartbreaking. Sure he saved some along the way that might have otherwise been lost to time but why isnt he helping get some of these things into loving hands? or in the case of things like the moonshine runner a local museum
That was a pretty MGA in iris blue, the same colour as my Frogeye. M.
I don't have a big barn like the football field long one, but mine does have a E-type in it though and early long hood 911, plus others, i had to be selective because it is a small barn
Hey I noticed a floor shift in your station wagon is there more suprises under the hood it just looks like a old beater ,I don't mean any disrespect I just love old sleepers! Also this guys setting on a gold mine if he wood just sell some of those classics !
Less with the loud music already. Have consideration for people who might have a little bit of a hangover.
I know we're a black and gold trans am is in Clinton NC. Right beside HW 87 in a shifty barn!
You sir have my dream job, you hiring?
haggerty doesnt know it but theres a poster of him on the wall behind the E Type @ 15:14 ...ooooh Spooky !!!
Who knew that a possum could own such a classic car like that
All these people sitting on thousands...sometimes millions of dollars. WTH??
I might have a few cars you might be interested in if your still doing barn finds first time seeing your channel and I really enjoyed watching it.
Love these episodes!
This show is so depressing, most cars won't ever be rebuilt. Still very interesting to watch 😊
with all the stuff in that barn it would be easier to cut a hole in the wall than to clear a path to the door
