Magic - Two way switch wiring made easy with a kinetic wireless switch.

  • We take a look at a new kinetic switch system which is ideal for two way light switch wiring.
A quick and easy way to convert one-way circuits into a two way switch with no additional wiring.
In a previous video, we looked at an EnOcean switch with a separate receiver. This version, by Quinetic, uses a similar energy harvesting technology. The Quinetic version has a master switch with a built-in wireless receiver and relay. The master switch can be paired with other Quinetic wireless switches to form two way and three-way (intermediate) switch configurations.
The master switch does not need a neutral connection. A great way to add an additional light switch location in bedrooms and hallways. A huge time saver for electricians, avoiding the need for additional wiring, chasing and two way switch connections.

Love the video. Great presentation. Can you get similar with built in receiver for thin light switch built into door frame?
Or could you use the two cables to the light switch to wire to receiver and then blanking plate over (I don't actually need that light switch)? Advice would be welcome.

I now have a client that wants his two way circuit made into three way, how is that achieved? Do we install the switch with the controller in the first point then cable out the other switch and add two Qinetic switches?

I would like to use one of these switches and connect it to two receivers? Use case is an indoor switch to switch on outdoor lights together, some on the outside of the garage, and some on the outside of the house. I know you can have multiple switches to one receiver, but can you have one receiver to multiple switches? Couldn't find anything on their web site about it.

Like the look of these Quinetic switches but i have a double switch socket in the downstairs hallway that operates the downstairs with one switch and the upstairs with the other switch. But upstairs there's a single rocker switch that only operates the upstairs light. Would it be possible to install a Quinetic switch upstairs that would operate both the upstairs light and the downstairs light and one downstairs that would operate the downstairs light and the upstairs light. Not to switch both on at the same time though.

Hey guys, I love these switches and use them regularly. Unfortunately, I did discover a limitation. I needed to create an intermediate position on a lighting circuit that shared a back box with another lighting circuit (seperate two way switching for upstairs and downstairs hall lights). The existing wiring was three plate, and the two (and three) gang receiver switches 'common' the line internally (L in, L1, L2, L3 out). In order to get the intermediate and two sets of two way to work, I had to send the downstairs switched line back up to my receiver switch position using a core of the original strapper cable with two gang wireless switch over the existing downstairs switch point. This meant the downstairs light was now being supplied by the upstairs circuit line. So at this point I have created a situation, A shared switched line crossing to another circuits Neutral. The only way I could correct this was to combine bot circuits before the OCPD.

      1) Two way dimmer switch so that I can dim lights in a room with a door at each end (standard two way only lets you have one dimmer).
      2) Added a "wall lighting circuit" in lounge so that I can turn on either ceiling or table lamps from switch by door.
      3) Added switch outside bathroom as redesign left pull switch dangling behind heated towel rail.
      4) the standard one where you need a switch in a different place due to a room rearrangement.

The only hard task is convincing the customer to accept that some of the switches in their home (the ones with the receiver) have to be those bizarre square paddles that don't match with the rest of their standard grid switches? Wouldn't it be also great if they made sender units (in addition to receiver units), so you could send switching signals from other "analog" devices - for example pair timers/programmers with quinetic receivers in shops, schools and offices and allow for scheduling of the on/off times but also provide manual control from light switches for tasks performed during off times or days off etc. And I'd also like to be able to pair one switch with multiple quinetic grids simultaneously (one master switch for the entire floor/building in addition to the usual number separate switches)

    • @JasperJanssen
      @JasperJanssen Год назад

You can’t have a kinetically powered sender unit via a conventional switch and a sender unit. You could have one that battery or mains powered, but that’s not what kinetic switches are, so not their USP.

Quite a useful bit of kit. Presentation would have been better without the time wasting buffoonery and over-acting. Would have been better too with out an apparently clueless assistant. Despite all the unnecessary chat, these guys did not say what sort of battery the device uses and what the expected battery life is. They also did not say what the range is. It would have been good to know if it copes with a long corridor.

totally agree - to me it was originally not clear what there were actually trying to achieve - if they had said they are simply replacing a hard-wired switch with one with a built-in wireless switch and then adding an additional wireless switch it would have saved me thinking what the hell are they talking about ...
