- In this first episode of "Beginning Shoe Making with a Beginner," I take you along on my journey to make my very first pair of Oxford dress shoes. As a new shoe maker, I'm excited to share my experiences, both the mistakes and accomplishments, with others who are just starting out. I hope to inspire and motivate other crafters who are interested in shoe making to take the plunge and try it for themselves.
In this video, I share beginner level tips and tricks, along with some funny stories, as I document my progression through the shoe making process. Watch as I show you how to make your very own Oxford dress shoes, and learn from the mistakes I make along the way. Some of the things I cover include measuring and cutting the leather, stitching, lasting, and finishing.
If you're a beginner shoe maker, or just interested in learning more about the craft, this video is for you! So grab some leather, thread, and a needle, and let's get started. Don't forget to hit the like and subscribe button to see more of my shoe making journey.

Mind blown! Need to do a few of those sneakers first before I attempt a real shoe.
Outstanding!
Thank you for sharing this video. I really like your honesty, but I love your positive attitude and enthusiasm. Good luck with your new profession.
Thank you so much!
I got into leather work to make shoes myself. I haven't bit the bullet yet, made a bunch of wallets and then a couple purses and bags. Looking to tackle my first pair of shoes soon. Would love to follow along in your journey, very inspiring!
One more thing, I bought a really wide french skiver then ground off one side of it. Then thinned it a bit and it makes for a great feathering knife.
Excellent work Dennis! It's been fun watching your leather craft improve and expand from day one! Keep it up brotha!
The proper tool is the one that works best for you. Once I'm back up on my feet I'm going to start collecting old leatherworking tools. There is something about an older piece of equipment that gets to me, these lumps of steel wood and rust managed to feed a family buy a house or created something useful or even beautiful for someone. I like honest old stuff like that, I'm probably in the hope that some of its previous owner's expertise rubs off on me. I'm impressed that you managed to get the toe box so well defined, to be honest I think you did a fantastic job
Beautiful shoes for your first pair of oxfords!
It's funny because I did the same thing with the inner tube. I wasn't sure what it was in the Japanese shoe making videos, so I cut up a bunch of inner tubes. I also use them to wrap cupsoles when I glue them on sneakers.
Where do you buy your tools? And a list of everything you will need?
Tolle Arbeit ❤
