Great job. I prefer my 550 the way it’s supposed to operate; personal preference. Air suspension on this vehicle considering its age now isn’t that expensive when you do it yourself. Just changed my suspension the other weekend. Less than $500 for both left and right airbags and took about 50 minutes each side to change them out. Literally four bolts. The lower arm bolt and three under the hood where the airline is. I’m no mechanic by any means, but watched these type of videos for about 3 days before I tackled it. I will say, have at least one person there to help. By myself, each side probably would have taken 1-2 hours.
@@garneht 2 Front Air Suspension Struts for Mercedes-Benz CLS500 CLS550 W211/W219. That’s really all you need other than basic tools for the four bolts you need to remove which are in most standard wrench sets. When you do end up buying a CLS from this era and one suspension fails/leaks (which it will), I’d recommend replacing both. That goes for the front or rear bags. From my experience, when one goes, the other is soon to follow. But yea man, it’s not very difficult when you have help, but you’ll struggle a bit doing it alone. Again, all I did was binge watch videos for a few days and got it done and I’m a fxckn accountant. lol

Unfortunately, I just discovered that I have an issue with the rear part of my air suspension: basically the rear end is sagging and I'm not sure how to test each of the components. Maybe both bags, or tanks, or lines or maybe sensors. I just did a quick research, and I see Arnott bags don't need tanks anymore, but each bag is $400 + tax + shipping. So the total would be about $900 to replace both bags. And who knows if replacing both bags would solve the sagging problem. And then you would have to worry about the front ones and other components. At the same time BC coilovers + new lower arms would cost about $1800-$1900 and with coilovers you most likely won't have any headache. Yeah, the main thing here is "worry". I recently watched a video by Kent from mercedessource where he called it a "worry in the background", and I totally agree with him. I think this is what holds me from taking my CLS for a long rides. I'm glad this kit is made for cars with airmatic, so you don't have to buy a pair of control arms. I hope shocks are good and will last long. Also I'd like to practice with star in order to convert this airmatic car to a non-airmatic. I'm still not sure if I need regular coilovers or adjustable ones like BC or something else. Please tell me how long it would take for an average person with a lift (I have an access to a rental lift) to do this conversion? I'd estimate about 1.5 hours for each wheel, so it's like about 6 hour job give or take, right? Also quick question: did you remove the air pressure before started this project? Idk how to safely reduce the pressure beforehand, so it won't accidentally surprise you later during this process. Also since it was done several months ago please could you compare the ride quality between this setup and BC setup that you have in your E55. Meanwhile I'll watch other videos. I have SL too which most likely will need coilovers too...

The air system is easy to fix. You just need to fix it yourself. It consist of a small computer module, a compressor, a small valve distribution block, some and plastic airlines to each air strut / bag.
I used a spare jack and a block of wood to help raise the lower back up. U might have to push the wheel a little bit to move it towards the hole to get bolt started then tap in with a hammer.
How do I get my lower control arm back on I seen u finished at the end but every time I put it back in place it goes on crooked and I can’t get the long bolt back in to tighten it down

However ima a ls swap guru. and i would be swapping in an ls engine trans. My only question is the ac system etc is it canbus? the guages? (i can used digitital guages) getting the engine in and running is no problem. Just wondering about the creature comforts that might be a challenge.
Im a LS junky too , but these cls550’s run like the wind and i often find myself enjoying it more than my cts-V……feels soo much more refined and safer……but if its a non runner because of catostropic engine damage then hey im all for a LS swap….its just too bad cause these 7 spd transmissions are AWESOME and are great performers….either way if you go thru with it and do perform a LS swap please make a video on youtube showing us the in’s and out’s….

thats a super cheap coilover for sure. I have BC Racing compared to my stock airide I like it alot better for comfort and sporty driving especially now its reliable. The dampening is not great at all maybe a 5 out of 10. Overall though I'm very happy for sure compared to the airide. Alot more pros with the coilovers for sure.

no it feels wayyyyy better at high speed over the are but yes my air set up was going bad
