It was a classic UK cover up by the Post Office management and the MP's. The Jimmy Saville saga also was covered up, for years by employees in the tv/entertainment industry, keeping quiet to save their jobs. Many who still work in the industry.
Same with wrongfully taking tax off PPI refunds. Train about that taxing money that should not have been taken off customers, get it back and the tax man wants some, why should the people have to pay a company to help them claim back said tax? Diddled by the banks and the potentially by the government!
It's endemic, this is the tip of the iceberg! They'll give whatever meaningless platitudes they can get away with while we're all talking about it and then go back to business as usual snouts in the trough with the same old absolute contempt for the people. How many scandals now? Partygate, ATOS, the DWP blocking investigations into the absolute misery they inflict on disabled people, the renters reform bill fiasco because how dare the serfs expect a home to be fit for habitation?! These are just the few things that are out there continuing behind the scenes while no one is looking, there will be many more. They knew about all of this for many many years and only now we're looking at them do they claim to care. The only way to get to such a position of power with that enormous salary and bonuses is with a huge dose of sociopathy
Pardons and compensation are all well and good BUT what about the prosecution of Paula Vennels and other CEO's who got massive bonus's and gold plated pension's, they should be held to account and taken to court for fraud and Blackmail, Extortion and misleading the court system.
Let’s not forget, it’s not just compensation that is being called for, these people paid money back out of their own pockets, and they are owed this AND compensation.
What seems to be missing from comments of Paula Vennells is that at the time she was a vicar. Later on she was being touted to become a Bishop. Seems as though her moral compass had the same bugs that the Horizon system had. She committed in the eyes of her faith a sin ie lying & will go to hell.
Apart from the fact he wasn't - the prosecutions for most part were done via the post office internally. The CPS weren't involved until a point after Starmer had left his position of DDP.

As minister for the Post Office you have one job to do. You would think the fact that 700 sub-postmasters were being prosecuted by the Post office would or should have attracted ministerial interest! Ed Davey was only in that position for 2 of the relevent years. Who were all the others?
Some of the shame must be shared by the national press, they knew that something was wrong but not until a television series blew the lid off the story are they showing this anger.
Nobody is going to get nicked over this ,at best you might get a couple of resignations ,public inquires are used for one reason, to bury things ,that are a embarrassment to the government
I agree with jailing Vennells and using her money as compensation but I think this ought to be expanded to include those responsible in Fujitsu, certain members of the government, Post Office CEO's and lawyers who were responsible for ruining the lives of so many sub-postmasters with evil corporate bollocks and a rotten computer program described as 'robust'!

If the government can do that, what else are they doing to the public? Everyone talks, but are these people going under a jail.?

She must return her mega salary and bonuses and use money to compensate victims. Appalling.
and go to prison
All part of the plan to close as many post offices before it is privatised.
It seems that those computer glitches only affected the little post offices they wanted to shut down. 🤔
