I built this a few years back and wanted to share the compiled version that is out there.

Been wanting to do this for some time. The stopping point is tools! From a quick conservative estimate, I'd need a good 5000 dollars to stock a workspace with the tools you have. Great build!

I have some beautiful mahogany and flamed maple, and I plan on building a Les Paul in the same way that you built this one. I always wanted a proper Les Paul, but I don’t have the money for a Gibson, and an Epiphone just won’t do it for me. Thank you for this video! It helps me picture all that I’ll be doing. Great work!
Just a suggestion, but check out an Epiphone Custom Pro Les Paul. I own both Gibsons and Epiphones, and I agree that most Epi's dont stand up to their Gibson counterparts but I actually like my Epi custom pro more than my Gibson Standard! The only difference is the name and pickups. The pots are 500's like gibson, the materials and hardware the same, but the almost negligible difference in sound can be fixed by a set of Gibson '57 classics for $165.
12 South Thank you for the suggestion! I actually really like the Epiphone Pro series. I just may look into getting one in the future. I saw an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top Pro with a honey-burst finish at Guitar Center. I thought it looked better than a lot of Gibsons honestly. Epiphone’s higher-end guitars are beautiful if you ask me. I’ve never played a Custom before, but I’ll try to find one. :) Have a blessed day! I also plan on building one in the meantime, because building guitars is such a fun experience, and a Les Paul would be the ultimate challenge to build right. :)
@@jonathankeith524 Your welcome. I really want a plus top in vintage sunburst. I love my custom pro tho, and last week I got an SG G400 pro 1966 edition and its killer also. I honestly have not even touched my Gibsons all year! Epis are great, best of luck with the problem one and enjoy the new one when you get it! The oddball high fret or two is really the only thing I can think of that would just affect two strings like that but even then 7mm is really high, even for a tall fret. I dont know, good luck man!

How did you get the top contour so perfect when routing? Did you use a jig?

So... that router setup allows you to use the surface of another lp to plane the correct contours onto the other one?

Nice job I've done 5 electrics myself it's not that easy I didn't have any jigs.Remeber 1 mistake and you could start all over.

So is it legal if I pay you like a psychologist to listen to me talk about my dream Les Paul and then if you happen to make one to those specs and gift it to me it’s all good?
The blue inlays look cheesy but otherwise it looks great! Don't like glossy finishes tho! I use many wipe-on coats of very high end marine (UV blocker) poly and after a fine sand then overcoat that with Minwax Antique finish for a soft satan luster finish. (looks expensive as opposed to the Chibson glossy finish)

Of course, the great joke is that Slash's LP's on the first album and tour were not made by Gibson, they were made by a guy like you. So, he reignites interest in LP's, Gibson benefits, and now they are attacking the very guys who brought them back to life. The world will never run out of idiots.

Guy like max baranet, kris derrig (rip) has made some of the best les paul's, its ironic that the les paul who reignited world interest to lp shaped guitars aren't even gibson lol
