One neat thing I saw on RUclips was from KaransPotsandGlass where on her berry bowls she made a little taller of a foot ring then cut a few small spots into to allow that remaining water to not get trapped inside the foot ring. Another great video for those looking to learn more about making these. Really love these twisted handles!
Megan Burak I totally agree that gaps in the foot are a must! I hate a large (metal) colander I have, because the water sits under it when draining...dirty sink water, ugh.

Well, I should have said, TRY. I wedged three balls of clay and I tried to make three bowls like yours (strainers). I saw your video yesterday. I made only bowl and it did come out ok. The first two I used different clay and one that did come out, the clay was harder. So I am thinking my clay was too soft. Just relearning everything. I am usually successful and make what I set out to. I haven’t done this (pottery) in a lot of years and I am like I said, learning all over again. Last March, I put together a studio (got another wheel, shelves, tables, kilns, glazes, clay etc) and every day I put myself a list of things to intentionally make. Like one day will be only mugs, next will be bowls etc... I live very remote and there are no other potters or schools to ask questions about stuff so I read a lot and watch videos like yours. Thank you for asking and again, for helping me get back into doing this again with your videos. It’s fun to watch them as you are so positive and encouraging. Please don’t change a thing. They are perfect.
So I know this video has been out for quite awhile but my mom always used the expression “the Owls Bowels” back in the day...also bees knees someone else mentioned😉
Diane Yennie it's a crock with a double lip like thing. So after you fill up your crock you place your lid on and then fill the inside of the double lip with water and the pressure seals the vessel and keeps out air ect. If you Google it and put it on images there are several good pics to get a visual :)
Needs to dry completely before firing so depending on the piece/thickness/weather if could be 1 day or 4 days! After bisquing I glaze right away and can fire asap!
1) use a lighter coating of glaze 2) use a glaze that doesn't run so much 3) if you can't use a lighter coat and your glaze isn't runny, go back after glazing and ream out the holes with a drill bit that's a touch smaller than the holes
Apparently I was heavy handed with the glaze. I reamed out the holes after glazing but some of them ran anyway! Thanks for your advice! Back to the drill I guess!

I let the clay dry a little more and use a battery operated hand drill to create the holes. Then a countersink to smooth out the holes.

how do you not have pooling in the drain holes from the gaze? what trick would you recommend? Thanks again for another great tutorial.
Making sure the holes are clear before firing and that the glaze is not too drippy are keys to success!

How long do you let your pottery dry before bisque process and how long does it take after bisquing before glazing

Again depends on the piece/humidity but I would say an average of 5-8 hours usually does the trick. Just base it on how it feels and less on time.

I made a berry bowl but ran into an issue when the glaze filled in some of the holes! It's a pain to try to drill them open! Suggestions????

I’ve used a straw and after glazing use a wet pipe cleaner to pull through the holes. Time consuming, but it worked for me!
You could try using a bigger drill bit! :)
