BRONCHIECTASIS AND ME

  • This is now on replay.
I have bronchiectasis and asthma and I explain a little about what they are and how those both affect my breathing and life. Doing it as a single video just helps me to explain in one go rather than answering everyone's individual comments.
Thanks for everyones suggestions - I have been an asthmatic all my adult life and know that one inside out. The bronchiectasis is a newer diagnosis and I learn a little more about it each day through personal experience and my own research. It is a life long condition. Everyones experiences with the disease is different and I do have a respiratory nurse that I converse with and Im well medicated. I hope that it helps everyone understand the little known disease a bit better. Im not a medical person this is just my own experience since diagnosis.
I have a playlist about Bronchiectasis if you wish to know more about it and Thanks for watching xxx

Good morning Carol. My husband and I both have lung issues as well and unfortunately understand your circumstances. We too have been under "stay at home orders" for our protection. We are in our seventies. For me keeping quiet sitting in my craft room and watching tutorials like yours is keeping me from going bonkers, so "thank you" for helping me to keep my sanity. Much love, hugs, and prayers from Donna, in California.

I'm glad you explained all this. I have googled the condition of yours. I cannot spell it. Lol. Asthma I know about as I have had it for 65 years. I think the fact you get on to do videos is just such an inspiration for us all even when I know you arent doing well. Life with breathing problems is much harder to navigate. It's like you said a struggle to even walk a hallway at home let alone having to shop for food or other items. So yeah I fully understand how hard this is Carol. But please don't feel like you have to apologize every time you cough. We understand why and we feel so badly that you are coughing when you do a video. But so happy when you can get on here to show us your talents so we can try to someday be as good at making things as you are. Take care and rest rest rest. Hugs and much love, Marlene

Hi Carol, just watched your Asthma and bronciectasis video, ( I struggled to spell that) 4 months on.
Firstly thank you so much for sharing, that was kind and brave of you. You raised awareness of your fear for yourself and those who are also self isolating from covid, to stay alive . It needs to be said, and sadly said again.
You looked very tired at the end and I am sure your 'nana nap' was just what the doctor ordered.
Living a life with an illness, carries a inner perspective of how you see yourself and that in turn goes to colour how others see you. I have used a phase in the past, 'walk a mile in my shoes', then comment. I learnt so much from the video and can only imagine the struggles you have both mentally and physically. KBO (Keep buggering on) Carol. That is a saying by Winston Churchill, I see you very much as a fighter.
You have a generous heart and a lovely sole. Bless you. Big hug.

Carol, you are simply precious! I wasn't aware of this live broadcast today, but that's water under the bridge now. I, too, deal with 'chronic crap' and it, in a word, sucks bug time! OK, three words but... whatever. "Day by day" they tell me... Really?!?! I have to navigate an entire day from this moment right here? I'll give ya' five, maybe ten, minutes cuz' right now that's all I can muster up. Oh Carol... I laugh, I cry, some days mostly I cry but every day I'm exhausted. My issues aren't respiratory - I think I'd find that most difficult - but they are "issues" that allow me to empathize with you. Thank you for sharing all of this with us, it must've been quite difficult. Friends love and care and pray, at least this friend does, so consider yourself prayed for 🙏. I think you are the bees knees! Please know that you are very loved and I'll bet I speak for all of your followers when I ask you to take care of yourself before you take care of us. Love and hugs from the Southern California desert, MK. ❤️🌞🌵. Oh! And when people - out of the goodness of their hearts, I get that - tell me I "should" do this and I "should" do that, I simply tell them that I'm handling this and gently request that they stop "should-ing" on me. If you think it'll help you are more than welcome to use that line. 🤭😁❤️

I live with a couple chronic diseases - fibromyalgia, type 2 diabetes, hypertension - and get so tired of people making suggestions for my treatment. Flares are awful.... but I keep moving on. It is what it is!
Blessings to you sweet one! You are in my prayers! 💞🙏🏻

It sounds very difficult, I have asthma alongside another autoimmune illness and I can get knocked totally sideways for weeks on end. If I get a cold or flu, it usually turns into pneumonia and it takes me months to recover. I sleep on pillow mountain and I sympathise also with the pant piddling situation! Keep well and - yes - wear your mask everybody!

My RUclips notifications are not working lately and I just now saw this live broadcast. Thank you, Carol, for explaining your issues. I just started watching you so was not aware of your conditions. Since your video the other day I became alarmed at how bad you sounded. I’m so sorry you are so afflicted and admire you keeping up with your crafting. I think I, and all of your fans, will not feel sorry for you but, rather, better understand when you do sound rough. I, like a lot of people, have asthma so understand how tiring it can be when the oxygen exchange in our lungs is not working correctly. I have confined myself to my home since mid-March and have trepidation about leaving the house because of Covid. You hang in there and I sure hope your breathing will clear up soon. Much love.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. On the other hand, you seem to have a very strong constitution and seem to be tough. Stay strong and as hard as it can be, keep your remarkable outlook. You are so creative and talented and hope you find solace in your work. I have lived abroad, being a military family, and actually lived with a wonderful German family (who became our family), and later my son lived and worked in Germany, so am familiar with medical in Europe. It is amazing to me that half of our population want to give our medical up and have the government take over. Stay strong, you are greatly admired and loved. Be careful with working with all the paper products, it does cause some dust. Love, love your work. It was also nice to see your beautiful face and smile. Barb Pacific NW

I truly am sorry you're going through all of this. I was diagnosed with asthma several yrs ago. They immediately put me on 2 inhalers, nose spray, etc., like you. I couldn't tolerate as much as they told me to inhale and the nasal spray gave me nose bleeds. What gave me a huge turnaround was that I'd always heard that dairy caused a lot of mucus, so I stopped dairy. Within a couple of days the mucus that was blocking my bronchial tubes was reduced greatly. When that surprise happened, I looked into other foods that could cause reactions in our bodies. It is rare now when I need even 1 spritz of an inhaler- usually allergy season, but if I fall off that wagon of not eating irritating foods, I start experiencing more mucus and breathing problems. Dr. Steven Gundry has a wonderful eating program that helped me and my husband. His book 'The Plant Paradox' is very good. My husband's blood sugar went to normal in less than 10 days. He was soon off blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes pills. .... Good luck to you. I wish you better health.

Dearest Carol, I got really sick in 2016 and was lucky enough to be seen by some of the best doctors where I live in Minnesota, USA. They found Rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogrens Syndrom, other things but the worst part was the ILD( Interstitial Lung Disease). At first they thought I had what you have, but mine to is just a step down from Cystic fibrosis. It has been life changing and they gave me 10 years to live in 2016. It took me a year to stop crying and then I got serious about living every day. I use oxygen and handicapped plates on my car. Winters are brutal, as are seasonal allergies, season changes and sick people. I have a 10 foot bubble from others and have to so careful just like you. I take afternoon naps and am take slow meanders when I walk. My family gets nervous and anxious when I am not doing well, which can turn on a dime. I always have to laugh when people advise me how to cure my issues. You are brave and doing as well as can be expected at a time like this. Do what you can for yourself, be kind to you and carry on.

!Hello from New Hampshire USA! I found you a few days ago and listened to your video on the "tea Party" series that you did a few years back. I send you many thanks for those "windows" into which I could better understand the love of teas...from the trusty wisdom of a tea lover within the UK. I made a card with multi pages in the "tea time" theme. So sorry for your "asthma" type lung conditions. My very best to you, Carol. You make marvelous junk journals....so exquisite. I will end by saying that many foods we eat produce mucas. That might be the info that could lead to some new details. Once again, I'm a new fan and love what you do, Carol. All the best.
PS: I had cancer 40 years ago and I was told I had less than 5 years to live. I said, no way, I will change the stresses in my and start a new life. I divorced by husband. I'm 74 at this time and pretty healthy, I believe. I'm sending so much love and best wishes for better health. pam kennedy

Hi Carol. I had a friend a few years back who had bronchyestasis but I never understood what it was. I myself have asthma and emphysema and much of what you say applies to me also. Life is not easy sometimes is it? Stay safe, stay sane and keep laughing. xoxoxoxo

I’m so sorry you’re suffering in this way Carol but as an ex theatre nurse, I would never wear a mask. The risks of hypercapnia and hypoxia are greatly increased. Fresh air boosts the immune system, so wearing a mask outside is definitely undesirable. The best result is for herd immunity in the population. X

Sorry to differ a bit but in the US she would be considered a High Risk group and while fresh air would be a great thing she should definitely stay away from the herd!!!😁

Sweetheart I so hope I didn’t offend you. It sounds like your on COPDs doorway. Bless your heart not being able to breath is just the worst. Love from the US lady. Take care of yourself and for heavens sake stay away from the herd. I’ve been grounded by my family and am going stir crazy. That’s how I found you lady. I feel lucky I did.

Sending you good vibes and love from Australia. Would sea air help? A room humidifier? Milk products also cause the body to produce more phlegm. One just picks up these little bits of wisdom. Good luck to you, hope you can find some relief.

Bilateral just means both lungs. Some people get this in only one lung.

Will taurine be an option for you? It's an amino acid. Most CF start this when around age 5. Please check this out with you health providers.
