I was born too late to have the privilege of seeing Sylvie and Laurent dance together, so I'm so thrilled these videos exist. There's something about watching Sylvie... she never seems to think about her next steps, but simply lets the performance flow out through her arms and legs. I feel almost hypnotised by her ballet, as silly as that might sound. Seeing this Manon in person must be a jewel of a memory for whoever was there.
I absolutely love Sylvie's acting. The London years and her multifaceted career made her get out of the restraint of a more French corset and become the charismatic performer she became. I was in awe at each performance of Manon watching how her vivid intelligence and passion would lead her through the plot intricacies. And what is fascinating is that her acting skills irradiate to her entire body. Therefore even her arms and feet "speak". Who knows if some new artist will be able to be that compelling and enticing on stage.
Thank you very much for giving us a chance to watch this performance. The entire Manon by young Sylvie and Hilaire (and Romoli)!? My God, this is quite a treasure!
Wowwwwwwwwwwww. I'm dying. I never saw them in Manon. I love this work by Kenneth Mac Millan and none other than Sylvie and Laurent. Thank you Thank you Toscanina. You made me very happy
Gillot is hilarious as well as Romoli. Amazing performance. Thank you for uploading such a treasure I had the chance to watch "on the spot"! Sylvie was back in Paris for a week if I memory is right.
I feel I must emphasize the beauty of laurent hillaires partnering! Sylvia and Laurent have understood the meaning of macmillans choreography. One hardly notices technical challenges. Dance as theatre, indeed!!
Watching this choreography has me believing that they are not "dancing" but moving as they would naturally move in any situation. It stops being a performance and becomes true!
Extraordinaire de trouver sur votre chaîne des spectacles auxquels j'ai assisté il y a 20 ans et que je pensais ne jamais revoir! Merci! Celui là, si ma mémoire est bonne était en mai ou juin 2002.
Same for me. When I saw this performance (this one, in 2002) I started to cry when she dies, it became worth when she went back for the bow and i couldn't stop till I went home (from Garnier to my place in the 15th district = 30 mn).
Didn't you just tell me in the comments to another video that there wasn't footage of the whole ballet? Nice find! Thx for posting! (I guess we might have been discussing Sylvie with Cope. Still...Sylvie!)
Not me who recorded this, however, I am grateful to whoever did film this because many people who didn't get to see these great artists live are able to have the privilege to see their performance now. I recommend keeping your negative thoughts to yourself, thank you.
@@_toscanina and I recommended you grow up silly cow. The dancers get nothing from this and it is forbidden to record. Perhaps you have heard of a little thing called copyright? Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I just watched and enjoyed it. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. What harm was done? A performance was recorded for posterity and for others to enjoy, maybe new dancers to learn from or be inspired by. I'm going to see Maria Osipova in Manon on Saturday February 3. I hope someone records it for others not so fortunate as to see a live performance

It was before she went to London …
Osipova comes to mind..
@@eonweb9074 not at all my dear. She went to London on 89. Waaaay before this (-:
@@ISTEasnoneother she is very sensitive and passionate. But she is lacking the French chic and beauty..

Muchas gracias, adoro a sylvie guillem. La ame como bailarina desde el primer dia que la conocí.

Sylvie Guillem is fearless, faultless and flawless! What a fine performance! And what a find!

oui. J'y étais aussi. J'ai pleuré du moment où elle meurt jusqu'à mon retour chez moi dans le 15e !
Thanks very much for this production , a great Sylvie, Laurent , Ramoli , others
Anytime I see this performance with Silvie and Lauren, I cannot help crying...Especially the last pas de deux....!
Weeping too.

Bravissimi!❤
Once again, there is mention of the composer!

I meant there's no footage of her full performance of Manon at the Royal Opera House, this is earlier in Paris xx
Thank you!

pas mal
Sylvie Guillem manca troppo
Oh, why so many changes to the original choreography by Kenneth MacMillan?
55:11 i think the ballerina is marie agnès gillot
Definitely.
Yes Marie Agnès was fantastic as well as her partner Wilfrid Romoli.
Extraordinaire Massenet!!
Massenet deserves much more respect than he is given.
True. When I first watched Manon (1982), his music initially seemed lackadaisical. But before the third act ended, I was so moved!!
what's the year ?
2003. I was among the audience.

Do you know what year?
2002. I was there.
Humm….But the very best Manon ever remain Isabelle Guerin !
