Sorry, I don't go for nationalism. I believe that it's Dupont's talent we're seeing here, not some magical characteristic she got from being born on a specific plot of land. Having just read an article about beliefs on racial and cultural supremacist beliefs, I'm just not in the mood for this.

Unfortunately talk in he ballet world gets dangerously close to talk of supremacism. We've all seen comparisons between different styles of teaching and dance, with the arguments that style A is tasteless or inferior because it is not style B. I've had the displeasure of seeing dancers from country A compared unfavorably to country B with the insinuation that the people from country B just naturally have better forms suitable for ballet. I've had the great displeasure of seeing people claim that black dancers never have good feet. We've all seen idiots claim that Russian strength in ballet doesn't come from forming great schools with great teachers and cultivating a public love for the art form but some sort of mysterious "Russian genius". This compared with unrelated real world things such as the rising of xenophobia and violent nationalism across the globe, and today reading about the Syrian refugee crisis puts me into a "trigger mode". Sorry about upsetting you but all this considered and reading a comment about how a great French dancer could portray her role well because she grew up in French culture was upsetting to me.

That makes no sense , especially considering the Choreographer was English ......It dosnt matter what country your from to project the best performance, what matters is god given musicality , technique and true understanding of the character .

I don’t think this is nationalism in an offensive way. You can however usually tell the country a dancer was trained in because the major schools have imparted a certain style on them, often connected to important choreographers. There is a lot of crossover now as students choose to take up places away from home, often awarded as prizes. Muntagirov and Polunin ended up at The Royal Ballet School. David Hallberg was accepted at The Paris Opera School at 16, and I think their coaching is very evident in his immaculate dancing. The Vaganova School has a long tradition and so has the Bournonville system. They produce an unmistakable Russian and Danish style of dancing. There is no harm in this. It’s just part of the history of how ballet developed in different parts of the world. Most of the major companies are full of dancers from every nationality, and then perhaps they have to adapt when certain ballets are performed. I know Mukhamadov found Ashton difficult at first, but then The Royal Ballet doesn’t have Spartacus in its repertoire 😊😊

@@selenite1 Baratin stupide.
