You know, lots of women are beautiful but she had something more. I can’t define it…an angelic or vulnerable glow that made you want to try to protect her. That picture of her without makeup is so revealing…pretty, fresh & again that angelic look.
When you see her in a room with other people, she just glows.
I think I first saw her on tv on some talk show when I was nine and I remember thinking that she looked so cute & fun to be around. I had parents who didn’t seem to want me. I guess that was the connection that I didn’t realize at the time. I would’ve loved to have her as an auntie who would take me out on fun excursions where I could laugh & enjoy being in the company of an adult who wasn’t on my back all the time to be see & not heard.
I must’ve thought she was like an angel.
I remember distinctly the first announcement on the radio that she had died & that she had killed herself.
I was doubly horrified because at age 11 my father left my mother & she was talking about killing herself. Mom was one month younger than Marilyn and hearing that someone could really take their own life horrified me so much because then I thought my mom could do that & where would I go?
Also, it’s probably just my naivety, but I never believed she did it. It felt suddenly like the world wasn’t as bright anymore.
I’m almost 73 & I still think she was just so charming & beautiful & wish she could have found the happiness she so desperately wanted. I think she deserved it.
I’m a former artist. All of my education & training is in art. Artists have an eye for beauty even in things that are not conventionally so.
But with Marilyn you certainly didn’t have to look hard for her beauty which I believe shone from within.
Honestly, just look at her without the makeup!
Note: I think another connection my 9 year old mind made between Mom & Marilyn was that Mom ALWAYS wore bright red lipstick…good old Revlon, a popular 50’s look! Lol!
Also, I had read in one of Mom’s movie magazines that Marilyn really loved & enjoyed children and that maybe made her an angel in my eyes.
Yup…I think that photo without makeup is the best one here (I really didn’t like red lipstick all that much. I found it kind of scary).
All these years later & we still admire her & try to define her mystique.

@@winifredherman4214 Plastic surgery on her nose, yes. Plus a chin implant & an eye lift (her pre-fame eyes were somewhat hooded). But if these subtle enhancements appear natural, (and they do), she certainly had an excellent surgeon.

Marilyn Manroe was an icon in Hollywood and she died so young at the age of 36. She knew the Kennedy's and she knew alot of famous people in Hollywood. her real name was Norma Jean and she had a very hard life when she was younger. She was like a candle in the wind. Elton John did that song about her and he sang it for Princess Diana's funeral in September 7 1997 when Princess Diana died at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris, France. Both of these women were icons of the 20th century

    Happy outside, but sad inside.
A true beauty with a short and dramatic life.
And without makeup, blond hair, elegant clothes, and all the team arround her, she wouldn't get there.
But maybe she had more intelligence, kindness, joyfullness then other actresses, that made her unique and more successable.

She would look at you, from the screen, or in real life in some unusual setting, and with her eyes in tender gestures, she would be asking for your help, your acceptance, your warmth, your heart. She was the lover to every man she ever looked at, worked with, or she ever married, or she ever allowed to be abused by. Marilyn was not just an artist, a screen idol, a sex symbol. She was and is a presence, forever.
