Also, I'd like to add that as a singer songwriter myself, I wrote a song for Gordon Lightfoot to record back in 1976, and as he didn't ever record it, he actually wrote back to me and told me how much he loved the lyrics, but it wasn't right for him at that time, I was impressed that he even took the time to write me back. I still have that letter to this day!
Great reaction. So, so many…I love Beautiful, Your love’s return, Home from the Forest, Ballad of Yarmouth Castle, Black Day in July about the Detroit riots and was banned by American radio and so many more, Steel Rail Blues, Long thin dawn, Ode to Big Blue, She’s not the same, Whispers of the north, Shadows, The house you live in, Rich Man’s spiritual
I heard this song the first time sung by Eva Cassidy. She changed the lyrics a bit. I'm happy to find out it's a Lightfoot song and hear the original lyrics
I 1st heard this song by Peter, Paul & Mary & their harmonies are terrific, which is something you don’t get when Gord is singing alone, obviously, but I wouldn’t say their version was superior, just different. Well worth listening to, though. 👍👍😄

The Kingston Trio did a phenomenal cover of this as well.
" you can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train "
The cover versions of this song released by Peter,, Paul and Mary, and by Elvis are superior. Hope you check them out, whether on your show, or not.
Nothing surpasses this. Nothing.
