Im a 1st gen Texan, born here in 1969. Bless you for spelling "honoured", properly. And I will will miss Gordon Lightfoot tremendously. Probably the only Texan blaring Gords' Gold in Pickup back in High School. He ia probably the best singer songwriter, and composer, ever. My wife and me got to see in Nov or dec of 2019, before we where locked down and the world went nuts. I have salted water coming from my eyes now. I must go.
The 7 minute long "The Canadian Railroad Trilogy" is just mind blowing. ruclips.net/video/yatx6pf25RE/видео.html Gordon Lightfoot is undoubtedly the greatest Canadian story teller of all time. When the question becomes "Who are the two greatest Canadian songwriter/artists of all time?", the answer is Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell. Those two incredible artists with such beautiful souls are forever etched in Canadian history... and probably still will be 1000 years from now. I just can't see how the gifts of musical magic that those two people gave to the world will ever be surpassed. On the flip side, just like everybody else I hope some day somebody even greater comes along and raises the levels of love for all of humanity even that much higher. 👊 💗
Gordon Lightfoot didn't write songs, he crafted them like art. His guitar, voice and songwriting abilities were top notch. We lost a Canadian legend, RIP.

RIP to Gordon Lightfoot, a brilliant storyteller. Mom, if you can hear me, please don’t pester the man to distraction! Love you mom.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost both of my parents way back in 1995 with the months of each other. I think about them and my five bothers every day. I came from a big family. 7:00 !

I m sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose our parents. However, I bet you got part of your sense of humour from her. I think Gordon would like to be pestered by her. ❤️
Gordon Lightfoot is considered a poet laureate of Canada. He told our stories. The Canadian Railway Trilogy is another masterpiece. He was covered by many artists, including Bob Dylan, who inducted him into the Canadian songwriters Hall of Fame, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Barbra Streisand, Anne Murray , Liza Minelli, and countless others, covered his music. He was a poet with amazing musical ability. He was a national treasure. He was a Canadian icon. I’m glad we had him for so long.
"Decades ago, in the final verse of his most beloved hit, Gordon Lightfoot depicted a solemn scene at Mariners’ Church of Detroit: "The church bell chimed 'til it rang 29 times / For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.” At 3 p.m. Tuesday, the bells at Mariners’ Church rang out again - now chiming 30 times to honor those perished sailors along with the artist who famously memorialized them in song."--Detroit Free Press Thank you for all the glorious music, Gordon. You will be missed.
As a proud Canadian I cannot begin to tell you how much this man's music has meant to me and my family. I saw him several times at Massey Hall in Toronto and he was such a wonderfully creative performer and wordsmith and always left the stage leaving us all more fulfilled. I hadn't seen him perform for many years but for my 65th birthday my two sons and beautiful daughter's-in-law treated me to another Lightfoot performance. He was in his late 70's at that point and he'd definitely lost a step or two and his voice didn't have the full register and timbre of his younger days but it was a wonderful moment for me and my family. He was a titan of the music industry, a true troubadour, a master storyteller and I'm so thankful I've been able to enjoy his music for 6 decades. RIP Gordie. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
You know you've crafted a great song when it is covered by Bob Dylan. This was also covered (Successfully) by Peter, Paul and Mary. RIP Gordon. His music will live forever.
I saw a Dylan interview where he was asked who his favorite songwriter (other than himself) is. He answered "everytime a Gordon song comes on the radio, I find myself wishing I had written it"

Gordon was a fabulous musician. He wrote his own scores - all the parts for his songs. Listen to "If You Could Read My Mind" closely. The guitar fills when the singer is silent, the intricate string parts ..... all brilliant. And written by Gordon himself. The lyrics also amazingly poetic. One of the best songs ever written.

R.I.P. Gordon (24 hrs, after news) My Dad was a fan of Lightfoot's, back in the 1970's. I knew his voice and songs off vinyl. My Dad, is also named Gordon. We were able to see G.L. live, in July 2017, near our homes in south Ohio -a fine concert. My Dad has Dementia, now, age 82, and he lives with me, as his primary care. Bob Dylan said Gordon never wrote a bad song. That statement shows just how good he was. He influenced all of the singer songwriters. This was the first of so many song 500+ starting in 1965. RIP Gordon your song will out live us all.
This is my favourite Lightfoot song. When I was twenty I backpacked Europe and I had a standby to get home to Ottawa. I spent two days sleeping on the airport grounds when it rained. No word of a lie, this Lightfoot song was playing in my head

His lovesong 'Beautiful' is the masterpiece of Gordons that is less known but the most emotive according to me and thousands of others. Favourite love song
That song always reminds me of a girlfriend from high school. Not gorgeous, not striking, not "hot," but extraordinarily beautiful in many ways. I don't ever remember seeing her without a smile on her face. I miss her a lot. (We were never really "together" but were friends who did things together and flirted a lot. I was chasing someone else at the time and today regret it.)
I couldn't help but shed some tears when I heard about Gordon's passing. I was born in 1961 so his entire career was part of my upbringing. Plus quite a bit of my family came through Canada and some still live there. Gord is a Canadian national hero. He is perhaps the greatest story teller of his time. I'm grateful that we have his music to remind us of his greatness. RIP Gord. You were well loved by your fans and you brought many smiles to this world.
Same here. His music was a big part of my youth. As I got older my taste evolved and I heard him less and less but a few years ago I randomly heard If You Could Read My Mind somewhere and it stopped me in my tracks, so to speak. All I could think of was WOW, I love this song! Lol. I had forgotten how much. I listened to him quite a bit after. You can't go wrong with his music. It's stunning. A sad loss for us all but as they say, Heaven has one hell of a band. RIP beautiful man.
This one hits hard. I'm sad we've lost him. I love him. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is my favorite, as my family is from Superior, WI, and my uncle was a helmsman on those same waters hauling iron, and grain.
Gordon Lightfoot was really a musical genius and a dedicated Artist. He is so well loved and mourned in Canada and around the world. Every well-trained artist understands this man. The reason his guitar sounds different is that he tuned his guitar differently very unique great insight guys, great presentation.
Some other great tunes by Gordon Lightfoot: “Don Quixote”, “Rainy Day People”, “Cotton Jenny” and there’s more! Yes please share your reactions to more of his work.
Great almost forgotten tune! Another as good as this is Gordon’s Canadian Railroad Trilogy! It is about the growing pains of a young Canada. R.I.P. to a true legend. ❤😢
I’m not Canadian but Canadian Railroad Trilogy gets me every time. Classic song from an enormous talent. We’re all richer for sharing the planet with Mr. Lightfoot. RIP Gord.
R.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot, a true Canadian icon, and one of the best singer-songwriters in history. My favourite Gordon song is Black Day In July.....rest in oeace you beautiful spirit...🙏❤️😎🇨🇦
A monumental loss to the music world. Gordon Lightfoot was a national treasure here in Canada. Very few musical talents were as great at the lyrics as with the melody, Gordo possessed both in spades. He is simply one of the greatest songwriters to ever live. Thank you, Gordo, you will always be an inspiration, and your music will live on. Much grief and sorrow in Canada today.
I am 74 years old ,back in 1967 Montreal worlds fair I was 17 he put on a great performance with 5o thousand people, a free concert, I will always remember that beautiful day.god bless you gordie
Thanks Guys for honoring one of Canada's greatest performers. He will be sadly missed up here in the Great North. No one sounds better on a sunday morning at the cottage than Gord. R.I.P.
Hi Jay & Amber my wife and I are big Gorden Lightfoot fans. We went to a concert in Detroit in the 70's that featured Gordon, John Denver, James Taylor & Harry Chapin for world hunger relief. An unbelieveable concert you would have enjoyed.
Gordon has too many songs to choose from, but some of my favourites include 'Song for a Winter's Night,' 'Affair on 8th Avenue,' the sad storytelling of 'Circle of Steel,' and the epic and ever-changing 'Canadian Railroad Trilogy' - a journey wrapped up in a song.
My introduction to this song was done by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Their harmonies were so wonderful and they really did the song justice. Thank you for honoring Mr Lightfoot with his version (also beautiful). He will be missed, but his music lives on.
Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. CC OOnt (November 17, 1938 - May 1, 2023) was a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music. He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s.[1] He has been referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter[2] and his songs have been recorded by some of the world's most renowned musical artists.[3] Lightfoot's biographer Nicholas Jennings said, "His name is synonymous with timeless songs about trains and shipwrecks, rivers and highways, lovers and loneliness."[4] Lightfoot's songs, including "For Lovin' Me", "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon of Darkness"-a number one hit on the U.S. country chart[5] with Marty Robbins's cover in 1965-and "Black Day in July", about the 1967 Detroit riot, brought him wide recognition in the 1960s. Canadian chart success with his own recordings began in 1962 with the No. 3 hit "(Remember Me) I'm the One", followed by recognition and charting abroad in the 1970s. He topped the US Hot 100 or Adult Contemporary (AC) chart with the hits "If You Could Read My Mind" (1970), "Sundown" (1974); "Carefree Highway" (1974), "Rainy Day People" (1975), and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (1976), and had many other hits that appeared in the top 40.[6] Several of Lightfoot's albums achieved gold and multi-platinum status internationally. His songs have been recorded by many notable artists.[7] The Guess Who recorded a song called "Lightfoot" on their 1968 album Wheatfield Soul; the lyrics contain many Lightfoot song titles. Robbie Robertson of the Band described Lightfoot as "a national treasure".[8] Bob Dylan, also a Lightfoot fan, called him one of his favourite songwriters and said, "I can't think of any Gordon Lightfoot song I don't like. Every time I hear a song of his, it's like I wish it would last forever.... Lightfoot became a mentor for a long time. I think he probably still is to this day".[9] Lightfoot was a featured musical performer at the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Alberta and has received numerous honours and awards.
As an American with a huge crop of relatives in Canada, I stand with America 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦 in saying "Gordon, you'll be sorely missed." (For fun, you should listen to Peter, Paul and Mary's version of this song. The harmonies are exquisite.)
I am heartbroken. RIP dear one. This man was the ultimate storyteller, with a voice that (still) talks straight to my heart. I saw him in concert four times, and that was not nearly enough. This is a beautiful song. He was an extraordinary singer and songwriter. You are hearing two guitars in this. They were so full and beautiful together.
Your next reaction should be to the Canadian Railroad Trilogy. Not only is it a great song but it really shows the love Lightfoot had for Canada, and that love was returned. Canada is in mourning right now.
His music uses instruments subtly, the lyrics are always in the foreground. The instruments present his voice.🙏❤ Being 65, so many artists have passed. Memories for now.
His music bridged the generation gap in my family I’m 60 and he was loved by my parents and siblings alike … sad to see him go but so many great songs !!😢
Canada lost a national treasure with Gordon Lightfoot's passing. I had the opportunity to see him in concert back in 1980 and I'm so happy I did. Let light perpetual shine upon him.
“I can’t think of any Gordon Lightfoot song I don’t like. Every time I hear a song of his, it’s like I wish it would last forever...Lightfoot became a mentor for a long time. I think he probably still is to this day." - Bob Dylan
RIP Gordon. So many stories and journeys you have taken us on. Heard that the Mariner's Church in Detroit were ringing their bells today in tribute to this great story teller. His groove is so smooth and comfortable that you can just melt into the music and "FEEL" story!!!
RIP to one of our very BEST Canadian artists. I sent you guys an email last night about the Canadian Idol contestants doing a tribute for him with the Canadian Railroad Trilogy. Would love to see a reaction to it - if you had the time. But thank you for honoring him tonight. It means a lot to us.
Great loss for the music world. Also lost another member of Bachman Turner Overdrive.😢. With the number of musical geniuses we've lost in the last few years, God sure has a great music scene in Heaven.🙏❤️❤️🩹😔
I went to see with him my father about 20 years ago in the theatre near where I lived. I only knew the few top 10 hits he had at the time, but my Dad loved "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald", so he encouraged me to go with him for the concert. When we got tickets, i spent the months prior to the concert listening to the two "Gord"s Gold" greatest hits albums as well as "Summertime Dream", which had the original version of the song. Just high quality folk that speaks to you, gets under your skin. He was great on stage, too. Solid band and straight-forward performer. I don't think you've done "Carefree Highway" yet, I could be wrong, but that should be next on your list. I would also recommend "Beautiful", "Shadows" and "Old Dan's Records". Well done, Rob and Amber, and R.I.P. to Mr. Lightfoot.
My wife and I are big Lightfoot fans. I told her years ago (married 35 years) that his song "Beautiful " is her song. It says exactly how I feel about her. RIP Mr. Lightfoot. You were a treasure and will be missed. Thanks for sharing your talents with the world.
As a Canadian I'm extremely proud of Gordon Lightfoot and also saddened by his passing. He left us a huge catalog of awesome music to remember him by so I guess in a way he will live forever in the music he left us. RIP Gordon Lightfoot. 😢 . Thanks for covering him today, much appreciated. ❤❤✌🇨🇦😥💔

R.I.P. Gordon. A true legend. Songwriter and storyteller
You are now on Carefree Highway!
He was still touring at 84. We were going to have the opportunity to see him in July.
This one hits hard. I'm sad we've lost him. I love him. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is my favorite, as my family is from Superior, WI, and my uncle was a helmsman on those same waters hauling iron, and grain.
Do you ever watch the live cameras around the Duluth Canal?
@@jokepy4230 I have not, but will now!
R.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot 🙏 I hope you know your music touched millions of lives 😢
Are no words i can think of that would describe his talent. Wow
May he rest in peace, our legendary Canadian folk singer.
Peter, Paul and Mary had a wonderful cover hit of this beautiful, lyrical masterpiece.
He will be missed greatly. I saw him in Tuscan in 1974 and he was amazing!
RIP Gordon Lightfoot. We lost our of our best up here
RIP Gordon. Thank you for the songs of my youth. 😢
Rip to a talented singer-songwriter. You need to hear his song "If You Could Read My Mind". Truly one of his best. You both would Love it
Great almost forgotten tune!
And in the USA, too. 😢
and thank you kids for sharing music to more ppl.
Such sad news this morning. RIP Gordon Lightfoot
I had no idea that he physically left this world, but he will forever be alive through all the amazing songs he left us.
"Alberta Bound" is another great song by Gordon Lightfoot, a tribute to his native land.
I’ve seen Gordon Lightfoot live several times, he is amazing. He will be missed!
Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. CC OOnt (November 17, 1938 - May 1, 2023) was a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music. He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s.[1] He has been referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter[2] and his songs have been recorded by some of the world's most renowned musical artists.[3] Lightfoot's biographer Nicholas Jennings said, "His name is synonymous with timeless songs about trains and shipwrecks, rivers and highways, lovers and loneliness."[4]
Lightfoot's songs, including "For Lovin' Me", "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon of Darkness"-a number one hit on the U.S. country chart[5] with Marty Robbins's cover in 1965-and "Black Day in July", about the 1967 Detroit riot, brought him wide recognition in the 1960s. Canadian chart success with his own recordings began in 1962 with the No. 3 hit "(Remember Me) I'm the One", followed by recognition and charting abroad in the 1970s. He topped the US Hot 100 or Adult Contemporary (AC) chart with the hits "If You Could Read My Mind" (1970), "Sundown" (1974); "Carefree Highway" (1974), "Rainy Day People" (1975), and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (1976), and had many other hits that appeared in the top 40.[6]
Several of Lightfoot's albums achieved gold and multi-platinum status internationally.
Gordon wrote a song that is rarely played called Beautiful. You will fall in love with it.
One of my favourites❤
I’m so glad you suggested this. What a gorgeous song.
An extraordinary musician and songwriter. I feel that he never got the accolades he so richly deserved. RIP Mr. Lightfoot.
As an American with a huge crop of relatives in Canada, I stand with America 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦 in saying "Gordon, you'll be sorely missed."
(For fun, you should listen to Peter, Paul and Mary's version of this song. The harmonies are exquisite.)
Another Gordon Lightfoot must listen is "Beautiful"
Jay & Amber, you'd like his "Rainy Day People" for your 6th song from Gordon!
Carefree Highway is my favorite. You two will love it. RIP Gordon
RIP Gordon ♥ If You Could Read My Mind is one of my top ten favorite songs of all time.
Thanks for honoring Gordon Lightfoot .. as a Canadian, his death hit hard :(
#RIP
Your next reaction should be to the Canadian Railroad Trilogy. Not only is it a great song but it really shows the love Lightfoot had for Canada, and that love was returned. Canada is in mourning right now.
His music uses instruments subtly, the lyrics are always in the foreground. The instruments present his voice.🙏❤
Being 65, so many artists have passed. Memories for now.
Gordan Lightfoot had another hit song "If You Can Read My Mind" released in 1970.
Have to do "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" by Gordon Lightfoot - it is supreme
Preferably the album version
It’s a masterpiece.
He's a Canadian icon here..rest in peace gordon lightfoot..what a concert he would put on...
You have got to listen to “If You Could Read My Mind”. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever!!!!
They have. This is their 5th song from Gordon
Yes!!
You know, on top of everything that is good about Gordon Lightfoot is that there is no mistaking his voice. Quite unique
“I can’t think of any Gordon Lightfoot song I don’t like. Every time I hear a song of his, it’s like I wish it would last forever...Lightfoot became a mentor for a long time. I think he probably still is to this day." - Bob Dylan
Rip to this legendary Bard 🙏 Gordon Lightfoot
RIP Gordon. So many stories and journeys you have taken us on. Heard that the Mariner's Church in Detroit were ringing their bells today in tribute to this great story teller. His groove is so smooth and comfortable that you can just melt into the music and "FEEL" story!!!
Yes, beautiful tribute by Mariners Church.
Probably my all-time favorite song by him is "Beautiful." It's amazing; that should be the next one of his that you react to. RIP
To paraphrase Bob Dylan’s thoughts on Gordon Lightfoot songs: his song are all so great and you don’t want them to end.
RIP Gordon. He will be sorely missed by his fans… what a poet of words and music.
Canada will miss you… ❤😢 As will the rest of the world.
Rip !
Gordon Lightfoot
Your music was in my world...
We lost a great one! RIP Gordon Lightfoot! Thanks for all the great music you left behind and will be remembered forever.
The man sure I could tell a story.
If you're going down the hole - Black Day in July - dark song but really powerful. RIP my fellow Canadian, loved you.
He was killing it in the 70’s with hit songs. Great story teller. RIP Mr. Lightfoot!
IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND was biggest hit on US.😍😍😍
I love Gordon's beautiful songs His music is honest, direct and has a real purity to it. Thanks for all the sensitive songs, Gordon.
Black day in July. One of my favourites but also so painfully honest it was banned on US radio
We had "Beautiful" sung at our wedding 42+ years ago! Gordon Lightfoot has always been a favorite of mine :)
The live version is fantastic.
Brilliant doesn't even begin to describe his body of work.
