I think he exhausted himself in the first round thinking he was gonna get a knockout, then couldn't believe how tough Nate was and got worried the rest of the fight about trying to pace himself so he didn't gas out because he realised he couldn't stop Nate walking forward like a zombie.

This was Jake's 1st fight since he lost his 0? Losing can make a difference in hunger/mentality to train and get better. He may have also wanted to stand in the pocket and bang against someone like Nate because it would 'prove he's a BMF' - Looking at Jake's previous opponents I don't think many will have come at him like Nate did. • @nab4205

Don't know why people keep saying Jake's performance was bad. In my opinion his footwork was way better because he circled the ring when pressured rather than just walking straight back into the ropes like he did with Silva and Tommy. Jake also threw way more straight punches and combinations like the uppercut left hook and a lot of good body shots. In my opinion Jake improved as a boxer. Is he world championship level, no, but can he beat guys like ksi and other influencers, yes. The only tough test right now for Jake is Tommy. I think Jake proved he can deal with pressure and has good stamina so that makes the ksi fight much easier. We've also seen that Jake has a really good chin because he's been hit with big shots and not once been dropped to the canvas.

Ofc there’s still a lotta gaps but he’s a lot better off the back foot, more composed, more stamina, better timing. Jake and JJ are actually very similar in terms of their level of attributes but with different styles and Jake shows better technique and timing more than JJ who is more unorthodox and shows/ uses his power more. That fight would definitely be a close one now that we see Tommy and Nate both having success from putting pressure on Jake and "roughing him up" because JJ can do that. Even though I want JJ to win and Nate's success gives me hope at the minute, Jake is still looking technically better as a boxer so that will be close and Tommy will be a very difficult test for JJ like he was for Jake and should be the betting favourite no doubt, maybe JJ will surprise everyone again like always but that shouldn't be expected like its a guarantee its far from that. Tommy = finesse technical point scoring boxing and Nate = cardio heavy awkward slugfest. Second, I think Jake is WAY ahead of where he should be. His KO's are actually causing us to expect more from him than is probably reasonable. One amateur fight and going ten rounds for his eighth fight against a seasoned pro fighter? I think a lot of people forget that Nate can make anyone look bad. The fight against Leon was fairly competitive and he even cracked him right at the end, and look what Leon has gone on to do after that, he put a masterclass on in the 2nd Usman fight, so to say Jake didn't look great against Nate, of course he didn't, that's what Nate does. Nate is essentially the most successful journeyman in MMA, and he transferred all of his skills to boxing. And those skills are to smother his opponents offense, get them running backwards and make them work twice as hard for half the pay off. And Jake still won convincingly, so even though it wasn't the technically sound display of boxing most people were looking for, but it was never going to be that. What that was, was a test of will and discipline to not get into a toe to toe scrap, and while there were small windows where Jake was reeled in, for the most part he avoided it and that is a success in itself. So for me he showed a level of adaptability in dealing with an extremely awkward opponent, and looked ok doing so. Now, does that mean he's going to beat Canelo? The answer is still no. But I was slightly more impressed with this fight than I think people are giving Jake credit for.

Its way tougher to get out of the way of those kind of punches than normal punches

I actually think that this is a step in the RIGHT direction for him even though he didn't look as good. In the Tommy Fury fight, we didn't see much solid footwork from Jake, if at all. Here, even though his footwork isn't good, he is beginning to develop them. Sometimes, you need to expose your weaknesses in order to improve upon them. You need to get into a heated battle with poor footwork in order to learn from your mistakes and improve upon them. Hope I'm making sense.

Lol the fact people think after 6 years this KSI vs Jake fight is still gonna happen...KSI has already said if he beats Tommy he's not fighting Jake...neither of them will accept the other is above them or the "ace side" which is why this will never happen, if KSI beats Tommy he'll retire or make stupid demands that Jake wont do or if KSI loses to Tommy Jake will defo not see him as the ace side and then its a stale mate.
6 years of fighting 40 year olds and punchbags and we're still no closer to this fight happening, about time people got over it and stopped supporting them fighting 40 year olds and punchbags and demanded this KSI vs Jake fight and hated on their opponents and maybe something would change but while your all running out paying to watch them fight skinny twigs and 40 year old men why would they ever do the main fights?
If im a RUclipsr and i have fans who will keep paying and supporting me fighting people i know i can beat up why would i stop??? all they're doing is mentioning the fight to hype their events to sell tickets go back and watch.....plain as day! they only tweet at each other or mention this fight in interviews when they've got events coming up otherwise they're quiet, all being taken for clowns.

I think this is well argued, but harsh. You can't be in complete control of your trajectory, so your skills are on show as favourably as possible each fight. He fought a tough opponent, it was messy and scrappy at times, but by far he was the tidier, more effective boxer.
I don't support Jake, to be clear, was rooting for Nate, but props to the lad.

People aren’t seeing Jake Paul has been on the decline since he left Mosley the first time, him vs Anesongib was a competitive fight because we knew the factors both fighters had beforehand, ever since every fight has been labelled as competitive due to accomplishments in other sports. Jake went from learning to box with Shane to learning how to set up a game plan to beat mma fighters with bj morris, just look at the way he controls range in the gib fight compared to any other of his fights at all.

The best way to get past a plateau after years in the Gym is to take a month or two break.
