That “quick tip” was awesome, I’ve used the J-Cut before but never realised the power of using an L-Cut and what emotional impact it has on the viewer. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome... I use all of those methods in my edits, but you literally have the best editing tutorial videos on the planet!!. I think I've been editing since premiere came out when I was a kid, I have a lot of experience, and I still love watching every single one of your videos! There are techniques I have used many times over but sometimes you either get lazy or forget, your videos always remind me !!.
The way you teach is a fine editing example per se. But it seems you have also good teaching abilities so listeners can really get the most out of it. That's why the course is worth to take.
ok, i heard about this but didn't use it much. I think this gave a better example of what effect it can have than most of the other tutorials i've seen. Heard of the J-cut but not the L-cut and its effect. Thanks again.
Thank you for this reminder. I've been out of film school for a while and forgot how important Pre/Post lapping cuts are. However, this is only possible if proper sound is recorded on set (i.e.: while shooting a dialogue scene between 2 actors). I had an external shotgun mic and just pointed it at one actor at a time on their coverage shots. We didn't use a slate. I didn't have to sync sound in post because it was already recorded directly into the camera. Now I know why I was instinctively "Parallel Cutting". I feel like a dummy now... Now I am having trouble timing the sound because the actors aren't always matching the lines at the exact moment I need it to blend smoothly... What a disappointment : s
Even though I am re-cutting existing music video with edits to match the dance remixes, I am using a multi camera feature to combine different events to make a single video. This actually is good to know. Even with vocals this would seem like it holds true. Audience reactions. Singers expression etc. Thank you. I am only 3 years into editing and am learning as I go and I have made a LOT of mistakes!
If it wasn't for your program SOCE, I would always have mistaken "parallel cuts" to mean parallel editing because of RUclips videos. Now because of you, I always associate that phrase with audio-video butting against each other on the timeline as you show here.
I have a question. How if we only have 1 camera for example in my school. Actually game 2 cameras but ones of it can't take a video And if I want to make a shot movie, how I can got a best camera cut and camera shoot?
I’ve heard it explained as if you’re watching two two people talking, your eyes don’t catch up with the next person talking before you hear their voice.

Alexander Pfleger I definitely feel your pain. Been in that situation as well!

Love these guys vids
Thank you...very clear and helpful.
Understand J & L cut, but @ 03:36 she is very eager and prepared to deliver the dialogue.
Probably not great acting, but also makes sense in the context of an argument when you would even talk over the other person.
I’ve definitely needed to hear this great content
New subscriber. Nice tutorial

Does that ever make a difference! Do you have to plan for the J and L edits when you're shooting?
Hi Jim - no need to plan this while shooting...it's all done in the edit bay.
