- A good golf warmup is essential to playing a solid round of golf, especially when competition is on the line. University of Minnesota golfer Emma Carpenter is no stranger to competitive golf, and understands that an effective golf warmup session is the first step to shooting a low score.
In this video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald chats with Emma Carpenter before she tees it up at the Minnesota Women's State Open. Emma walks through her golf warmup routine and discusses why it's so important to start the day with a good golf warmup session.

Emma was wonderful!! She should be a regular on the channel! I know she is probably too busy for that. Beautiful Swing!!!
We would love to have her more regularly on the channel - Thomas
She makes a great point about warming up and not trying to practice before a tournament round. Very wise thoughts and technique. Thanx Emma.
On course content with Drew, Emma, and Thomas would be awesome. She's a natural in front of the camera.
Stay Tuned :) - Thomas
Natural is one way to put it
She's great and said one thing that resonated..."it's a warm-up NOT a practice". Totally agree with this approach and will be using this mentality.
Very important. If you are having a range session before you tee off you may struggle on the course as you will probably be thinking about too many things. - Thomas
This girl is going to be a star.
Her game is trending. I bet she has a great college season - Thomas
Great topic. I think most of us don’t prepare enough. Thanks Emma!
Thanks for watching!
I got to caddy for some PGA and LPGA players back in the day. All of them progress thru the clubs much like Emma prior to the round. There's variety on which clubs they hit, but the process is almost always from shorter clubs to longer. I've followed their examples ever since, and it really is good prep for a tournament or even a casual round. One additional thing - buy yourself some cheap white towels. Get 1/3 to 1/2 of the towel as wet as possible and just wring it enough to keep it from dripping all over the pro shop. Use it to clean your club faces after each shot while on the course, and use it to clean off the golf balls too.
ya agree some on course content with Emma would be great !
We look forward to filming with Emma in the future - Thomas
Awesome content, as per usual!
Would love to have Emma feature more on the channel in the future :)
Thank you for watching. We would love to have her on more videos too - Thomas
As a physical therapist I endorse stretching, it's such a vital process before starting yet about 90% of weekend golfers avoid this and may have an increased risk of injury. Also agree that range sessions prior to teeing off should only be a warm up and not a practice session; I'm guilty of thinking the latter and hence end up playing a bad round. Will definitely keep that in mind next time I decide to hit the range before the round.
At minimum 20 minutes of hitting balls before going to the tee. I usually need more - Thomas
Beautiful swing
I agree, her game is in great shape - Thomas
Good heavens, what a great swing.
It sure is!
What I would give to hit a golf ball like that. Thanks for the insight
Emma has a great swing, Thanks for watching - Thomas
The weird tick so many have developed of clicking the club on their shoes cracks me up. Right up there with snapping fingers at the ball to slow down on chips and putts
Thank you for watching - Thomas
I think what she's doing is removing dirt/mud/grass from the ball.
A lot of amateur players warm up with at least 2 schooners of beer and a few putts. Then wonder why they cannot break 100
Haha yes I usually need 45 minutes to warm up - Thomas
It would be awesome to add a woman that bombs it to the channel. 💣
I agree. That would be a great addition to our team - Thomas
