Had the older version (without the 3speed switch) for years. Love the ease of blade change. Used daily and never lets me down. I can certainly recommend this one👍🏻
I've got this one and have been using it for the past year. Not had any issues with it and can't think of any negative points at all actually. Well recommended. Will be interested to see where it ranks on your final showdown video. Cheers
Sold! I've a Dewalt 18V drill with a 5ah battery already so this is a brilliant addition. Thank you for explaining all the stuff the actual manufacturers don't seem to want to tell anyone!
I've got the national grid DeWalt version and it's been a great tool that gets used far more often than I thought it would do. I really like the quick release blade change. The only thing is my son borrows it and gives it back with all the teeth missing on the blades. To be fair though he does replace them
Paul If he replaces then he is one up on may people who just wreck stuff and pretend they haven't touched it. Then there is the neighbour who borrows tools, locks them in his house and goes on holiday. Mentioning no names Johnny
@@SkillBuilder Yes, very true Roger. I've lent out my DeWalt mitre saw to 'mates' and when I get it back I invariably have to get the blade re sharpened.
I have the older model, love it! Particularly like the fact that it'll sit horizontal due to the battery and blade being at the same level and the quick change works great. Replaced the sanding shoe for a screw fix one as the velcro failed pretty quickly but otherwise really happy, especially if already on the platform
I have the older model it is really good, secure and easy blade change , strong brushless motor keeps going tirelessly, I had to cut through concrete blocks and bricks no problem but I had to go through a few blades, have a few Milwaukee tools as well they are great but my Dewalt tools have a small quality edge.
It’s a lovely tool, have the one slightly older and has been super for 6 years and still going have done so many jobs with it and still sounds as good as new. Won’t be disappointed on this grade z
Been looking to buy so I did, very handy tool to have for cutting arcs & bottom of door casings as a tiler who does a lot of huge floors these are a godsend
I have the corded and cordless Dewalt multi tools, cannot fault the performance of either. The blade change is a winner and I like the fact you can adjust the angle of the blade when things get tight. I often ask myself how we managed without multi tools!
The older 18v model was best of the rest imo (compared to the supercut etc), good to see they have updated it. I’ve absolutely beat the granny out of the older models over a few years and haven’t broken one. Yes they don’t cut as fast as the more expensive ones and they do vibrate a bit more but they are good value for money.
Ive got this multi tool and absolutely rate it! Miles better then the Makita one my mate uses on site. The trigger is great as opposed to a standard on/off switch
Nice review. Depth stop does indeed loosen. The other issue I have is the Allen screw that holds the depth stop bracket onto the body has tightened itself to the point I can’t take it off now. Other than that great piece of kit and next to drill and impy it’s the most used bit of cordless kit I carry.
Me too, I think it's great. I find the blade change a little awkward at times, it's quite stiff on mine, but I think I might just have oddly shaped hands and I press in the wrong place! Good advice from Roger on the depth adjuster screw, I lost mine recently and haven't got round to getting a replacement. I think the screw is too big also, I did have the problem once of not being able to use the depth stop because the screw got in the way. For me, a threaded insert with a hex head would have been far nicer for just tightening up a depth stop, which doesn't have to be ridiculously tight. Overall though, I'm glad I bought mine, I think it was the right price point for a tool I don't use that often but does things others just can't.
I've used the bosch, makita, Dewalt and Festool multi tools over the past 5 years. I've found the dewalt gets overheated happened twice same model 2 different tools. The festool is the best cuts stuff in seconds compared to the others.
This is next on my list, I got the 18v brushless drill a few months ago after my black & decker broke after about 2 weeks. Now I see the value in higher quality tools. I have seen the 18v multitool kit for £200 but I'm hoping for a nice black friday deal maybe to get it a bit cheaper.
Great video Roger. You picked up on the lock button for in use. I believe you can also use the lock button when not in use so it avoids the issue of accidentally turning the machine on when changing blades/tools.
I've got a DeWalt angle grinder and make a point of locking it off before changing discs or even just when setting it down for more than a few seconds. Yes I know, removing the battery is preferable but with the trigger locked off and the spindle lock pressed for disc replacement, it should be pretty safe. Great feature.
I have the original 355, never had an issue with it but without speed controller it burns through sanding pads and sheets. On my corded fein the adjustable speed makes the pads last days rather than hours, would hope the slower speeds would help this model
You should try the new milwaukee 18v multitool I’m a Dewalt man but even I was impressed with that machine as it starts off slow until you apply pressure then it speeds up and the more pressure the faster it goes amazing though5 went into the new milwaukee
In all truth we have never been able to make enough money on Skill Builder from ad revenue to support Robin. It was a good place for him to learn about making videos but the aim was always for him to get some exposure and then set up his own channel. He is doing well with it now and I sure there will be future collaborations. As our respective channels grow it will be easier to justify taking time out of our paid work to make videos.
don't get me wrong, it's a great bit of kit, I just don't like using it.... i use the sanding pads for rounding off the edges of doors and whatnot. but after 5 minutes my fingers feel weird, like tuning forks. Lately I've been trying to stick to handtools whenever possible.
@@flyingjackcarpentry9394 I've had it come and go in my rh thumb bad enough that it took effort to lift a cup which was frightening as I'm only in my 30s. Late reply, but happened to me once and it was scary. I used the oscillating tool for 20+ minutes straight. Had a tingling sensation in my hand for the next few hours. And nose bleeds for the next 24 hours. And i was on blood thinners. Checked google and found it happens to people who make a living working with power tools especially vibrating ones. I take care now.
I've had one of these die due to dust getting into the trigger and a replacement trigger unit costs as much as a new tool. Always clean your tools after use, don't make my mistake!... It did give me an excuse to upgrade to the newer one though.
I've owned the older version of this dewalt tool but was "convinced" by a job site specialist to sell all my dewalt gear and switch over to Milwaukee. While the Milwaukee does the job well, I I must admit that dewalt is a more refined and better built tool. It definitely does a better job. It's almost like comparing a European car to an American car. I'll never take the advice of a Milwaukee job site specialist. Sneaky bastards.
Had to return my Erbauer tools. Very dangerously faulty. Love my corded DeWalt multi-tool - keep being amazed at the fine precision I can get from it, eg unexpected request to fit hinges with no other tools in the van.

What do you think about the vibration
@@SkillBuilder Don't all multi tools suffer from vibration?
Got this myself, it's great does everything I want with any blade and even has a dust extraction attachment fitting.
So much control with this tool, trigger and blade change makes it a winner, love it!
I’m very glad you mentioned compatibility with starlock blades because this is an important feature to know about in my opinion!!

Why did you leave the stop/guide bracket on? It comes off in seconds with the included Allen wrench.
Because we had a lot of machines and didn't want to lose the bits. It doesn't matter what you do.
Still without a basic on button, hand has to be on the trigger for action, yes?
No you can lock the trigger. I showed this while you were taking a nap
