    This is how we wanted to fly RC from the first! Very thrilling and immersive. You two pilots can train by talking “radio” traffic to each other to set up formation maneuvers as well as “mock” dogfights. Wonderful!!

    Cool stuff to watch. I remember when I was a kid in the 60s, there was a disused WW2 airfield, which is now a large housing estate, a couple of miles outside the the village where I lived. A guy was flying a Spitfire which crash landed on the edge of the runway. It was a beautiful aircraft, about 5 feet long, strewn about. I have to admit I felt sorry for the guy. I've never forgot the sight even though I am now 66!

    Now that is more like it! Superb - they look great together. Great formation loop! How do you rate the Flightline vs the Avios? The Avios seems to have the better scale fidelity. Noted the BoB film music and the cannon damage... "Skipper hates Jerries." "You'll hate me if you don't get that gun repaired, then wrap up this little lot."

    Hi, here is a question for you. I have a broken retract on my avios spitfire (wheel is ok, just broken retract servo) and hobbyking never have a spare on stock. Motion rc have spare retract for flightline spitfire in stock all the time. Are they the same size?. Would be great if you knew, but I realise it's a long shot. Thanks in advance, andy in uk. By the way after Finn's video I am now the proud owner of an fms yak 130. Just waiting for weather in northumbria to change so I can fly it.

    Good, work, keep practicing! Formation flying is a long-held dream of mine. I would ditch the Battle of Britain storyline though in favor of better tracking between the planes, to wit; I think you should use a couple of precision aerobatics type of planes and practice your precision flying to make it more of a formation flight. I think the lead pilot was pretty wild on the sticks and for sure such a warbird is hard to keep going straight, precision turns (loops and rolls, etc.!). Just my $0.02, but kudos and keep it up... and then, let's get some shots from the ground of your awesome formation work!

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 года назад +1

      Agree Bill. Currently working on head tracked FPV conversion of an electric 2 metre Extra 330. Going quite well. If things go to plan I'll have onboard real time telemetry as well. Early days but as more of the team get the DJI FPV setup and head tracking we'll try different aircraft. Red Arrows is one thing we are keen on doing as well as a first FPV turbine jet. Lots of potential.

    • @billpolits7594
      @billpolits7594 3 года назад

      @@EssentialRC Excellent. 2 meters is a good size I'd wager and I'm pretty sure it'll fly more precisely than the warbirds. If you want to go high-precision-only on a budget, I recommend you look at AJ Aircraft Acuity, 62" & 2 meter available www.aj-aircraft.com/62-Acuity.html

      Priceless. This was literally the FIRST time we did this. This IS practice. How else do we do it but by going out and trying and learning. Hilarious. 👏😆

    • @tabdycollins
      @tabdycollins 3 года назад

      @@EssentialRC I didn't mean to sound critical. It just seemed you were not coming into formation using any rules. If you decide on a perspective on the ground and line up parts of the other aircraft with your own you can then gently 'slide' into formation and its much easier to hold it because all you have to do is concentrate on the lining up. Otherwise you are looking in various directions and as a result wander all over the place and one minute about to collide and then racing apart and overcontrolling. Anyway, thats what I was taught for full scale aircraft and helicopters.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 года назад

      @@tabdycollins We're not qualified full scale pilots. We only fly RC so no, we don't know any of the theory. Maybe you could point us to online resource for some of the techniques?

    • @tabdycollins
      @tabdycollins 3 года назад +1

      @@EssentialRC I've no idea where on the Internet you'd find such info. I picked it up during a flying career spanning about 50yrs, flying both fixed wing and rotary. Watching your video perhaps try lining up the wing tip with your exhaust stacks and the tip of your pitot tube with the trailing edge of the wing. Do it on the ground, stationary until you reckon you have a useful perspective. Then work out how to remain level which looks more difficult because of the lack of reference points. Perhaps reckon you must just keep the radiator cowl in sight. But, this will probably put you too low. In a helicopter one wants to be a bit higher than heli in front to reduce chance of blades hitting!
      So, once you've decided on your perspective you can slowly move in along that axis until you are as close as you dare to go. The usual error, is closing too quickly. In my experience it would be to half one wing span or with a heli to half rotor span. Hope this gives you something to work from - good luck, don't collide and have fun.
      I think a difficulty with RC is being able to go straight and level for long enough?

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 года назад +1

      @@tabdycollins Thanks. On the last point, yes...but if we're both flying FPV and don't need to worry about visual range then no. I'm waiting for the other Spitfire pilot to get his FPV camera/goggles setup and then we'll try it.
