Great video , said some key facts some other reviewers missed .Comparing the old and the new himalayan side by side gives you a clear picture , the new one looks so dope , definitely buying this one for sure
RE pretty much fixed all the things we didn't like about the old. The first thing I saw with the two side by side is the seat. the old seats are narrow, and uncomfortable for both people. And the 452 front section is no longer scooped but rather flat. Looks much more comfortable. Then there is the engine, no more problems keeping up with friends riding 250cc bikes on the highway.
Looks really good. People say it doesn't look British or old school but RE needs a few models that break the mould of Retro. 40hp would make it finally go above 120kmph.😂
The danger is that it looks too much like every Japanese small single out there and loses its USP. Pity they couldn’t package the new engine in old clothes. Triumph do this quite well. Then again, it’ll be cheap so it should be competitive
The new bike looks fantastic to me. I like the fact that it is very well equipped and basically ready-to-go with easy luggage (top box) facilitation etc and I think the power/torque balance of approx 40/40 is spot on. This bike should compete on very equal terms with the new Triumph 400 as well as the soon to be released and upgraded 399cc KTM 390 Adventure but with a capacity advantage to 452cc, I think RE are on a winner! Cannot wait to test ride one in Australia.
Recently sold my 411 and bought a KLR650 Adventure for 3 main reasons: lack of open road power, too low seat height (I'm 185cm) and no matter what I tried couldn't get the wind protection right(buffeting). The KLR is way better on all 3. But the 450 addresses the power and seat height seems sorted. Wind protection seems minimal. Might have to keep the KLR for longer rides and buy a 450 for everything else.😁. When I saw the early photos of the white bike, I thought it looked horrible. The black one looks way better.
I've been watching itchy boots run around the mountains with the new bike. It just seams to be so right powered in all situations of daily life. Haven't seen any bogging down while she has been riding, looks to be a fun daily driver.
What a brilliant ambassador she is for RE, and back to the roots of her journeys, the Himmy looks soooooo much better than the plastic Honda she's been riding!
Can't tell how happy I am 1. Booked Himalayan 411 and somehow canceled it 2. Currently booked Super Meteor 650 and going to cancel it. 3. I feel, finally this would be it ❤
Noraley…..Itchy Boots on RUclips is currently riding through India on a new Him 450 and liking the improvements over the older model which she previously rode. She puts them through a lot of mileage and wear and tear on her travels which shows that RE is a quality manufacturer with a modern outlook while still keeping the traditional character of its legacy bikes. Good show.
Downsizing to 130/80 doesn't help in decreasing seat height as the side walls are still longer as the aspect ratio is 80. But you can adjust the monoshock for seat height adjustment. This is my assumption btw.
Superb comparative review! Seat height is adjustable which is amazingly innovative ! Full maps on a beautiful screen! Aesthetically, a rear tail light in the center is a must as providing them on both ends, which are normally brittle and more likely to be broken during sidefalls.. it may become a safety issue during long journey s..
Thank you for this vid. That's the first time I've seen somebody make the effort to compare the two Himmys side by side in that way and it has done a lot to convince me to wait for the 452 to be available here in France instead of getting the 411 (which I'm told they will not be phasing out right away).
I agree. No useless moto-journal jargons. Everything straight and to point. The info on Seat Height is the most crucial for me personally and to many 'shorter' Indian riders waiting on the 452. Not seen any other Reviewer mention anything on it so far. So big kudos.
Excellent video Akash. Very informative. I’ve been trying to find some details about the new Himalayan since hearing of the upcoming launch and your video, by far, has been the best I’ve seen about this bike. Many thanks and looking forward to your next instalment about this beautiful machine. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Thing is ugly as they come... Looks like China gave up halfway through designing a bike and let Enfield have it after they figured out it was too big for a 250cc engine to fit. DongFang looking garbage
Very nice comparison of the models. I have been riding a BS4 for two years and really like the look and specs of the 450. The seat height increase is my only concern, as I chose the Himalayan because it was the only “Adventure” type bike I could place both feet on the ground - but the lower (after-market ?) seat may be an option ? Very professional presentation 👍🇦🇺
The original himalayan had a seat height of 800mm. An official accessory seat is available that is 805mm which can be adjusted up to 820mm. So 5mm shouldn’t be a huge increase. The weight has gone down by 3kg, that too with 2L of extra fuel. Also the fuel tank is now closer to the center (since the airbox is moved up) which will give a better center of gravity and easier handling.
Seat Height issue is one I noted, but since I would want to wait until a new model has been out a year or so at least it will give aftermarket suppliers (hello Hitchcocks 😀) a chance to address this and other rider issues. She does look a cracking bike ...
I’ve had my BS4 for over 4 years and won’t be trading it in for the new one. I don’t like modes etc. Even if I wanted to, it’s a good idea to never buy the Mk1 version of anything. Remember the “production issues” of the first Himalayan?
thank you very much for the great review. You talked about the bike in stead of your self. and also could under stand every word you said, again thanks. Was getting tired of all the videos that are titled in English, but can not understand what they say, and the ones that talk more about the people than the bike so far into the video that I just turn them off.
At the first sight on the new one, it was not so appealling. But i now I like the sleek body design and overall look. Yes it look like the wild horse which is ready to run on any terrain.
The seat height is a worry for me. I found 411 was easy to ride after putting on the lowering kit that dropped it by 20mm. Unless i get same option for 450 then will be forced down the Triumph 400 road, Wish they would cater for shorter rider. Not everyone is 6 foot and above with 31 inch inside leg.... One last hope is they put that engine in the smaller 350 meteor frame.
Great review. Well done man. The new 450 looks less agricultural than the old 400, lighter, more powerful and modern. Toss up between this and the new Triumph 400X for me????
Will some one from Royal Enfield Please come to Prince Edward Island, Canada and talk one of the bike dealers in to selling Royal Enfield, I want to put the new Himalayan 450 in my stable and even think of one of the 350 as well. Like the look of the classic, but the gas tank size and heal toe shifter of the Meteor.
I think RE have taken some small steps down the road which ends with the Himalayan looking as bad as every other modern bike. Love the look of the old Himalayan.
It will be quick and light enough for me. Is the suspension plush? Does it vibrate at 80mph indicated. That's the next hurdle. 40hp out of 450cc means it will have some low down torque. I've been watching Noraly riding it through India but can't quite judge how the forks are performing. Haven't seen any vibration in the mirrors
Very comprehensive, interesting comparison. Thanks! (Though I would recommend to give a good wash to the motorcycles before recording such video.) The new Himalayan seems to be a much better motorcycle than the old one. I’ve test ridden the old one and found it to be underpowered to the point of being dangerous on roads having a 110km/h speed limit (« nationales ») here in France.
I really love the old design, but the power really leaves a lack, if it was possible to put the new engine in the old frame of absolutely be on board, I don't like the new heads up display, But the sixth gear is really great.

Will the center of gravity be lower on this bike with the new fuel location where it is not above your waist? Meaningfully lower? I have a deposit on the Triumph 400x which I saw at the dealership last week. Beautiful bike, fit & finish. Comfortable looking seat too. However, the seat height is higher than the Himalayan which was disappointing. On the up side…the Triumph 400x is about 40 pounds lighter with a 395 pound wet weight. May have to put a deposit on the Himalayan…tough choice. India is just killing it with motorcycle manufacturing. Lots of great options.
thanks for this quick comparison, can you do the gauge cluster comparison too? a lot was changed from 411 to 450 giving only one whole gauge. What are lacking?
Hey there! Sorry, but we had a limited amount of time left so we could not do an instrument console comparison. However, that is something we would like to explore once we get the bike for road test review.
I guess all the things are great and as expected except the pillion seat and rear part looks lower in height compared to old one. If someone sits on the pillion seat, it will go further down which will look weird 😐
I wanted the old Himalayan look with new Himalayan features and specs.😢
same
😂
yup!
Same

Except for the curvier design, I like what I hear. The 411 had that beautiful boxy retro shape. Shame they did not keep up the legacy.
I like the curvier fuel tank, gives tiger vibes! Looks i's a personal choice
@@atsonaga5520 if you like tiger, go buy tiger. But they messed up Himalayan looks for sure.
Technically new himalayan is fine... But look wise old himalayan is a gem💎
This is how I want the review to be. Thanks a lot to the team. Awesome Job🎉
Appreciate the kind words 🙏🏻
I thought there was embargo till 7th for specs. Kudos to Akash. Hope this won’t be taken down by RE

Embargo date got changed suddenly so had to rush this one out asap. Thanks for the kind words 😃

Great overview of the new Himalayan. Like the fact that both motorcycles are actually dirty which means they have been ridden.
The new Himalayan is awesome. I'm looking forward to upgrade mine.
