thank you for the video. I just ordered one of these. Supposed to get here tomorrow. Excited to play with it. I have the Big Sky already, and I have the Timeline and Zuma coming tomorrow with the Sunset.
In watching your video and documenting what you have found, it looks like the Sunset is set up to be a variety of Boost/OD pedals. For example: the GE is an emulation of the Klon Centaur. The Klon is usually used as a boost but can be an OD pedal also. It seems the six pedal emulations are different types of Boosters, that can be overdriven. The pedal may be best used in front of another OD pedal or a Dirt pedal. Maybe standalone with a Humbucker guitar into an amp, but these are all "coloring" boosters. Probably best used with some friends to create give color and complex tones down the line as opposed to being an OD/Dirt pedal by itself. An interesting addition to my board..
@@ROKZLEON Damm you. Since your EP Booster video, I immediately started my Reverb shopping! Must get RED! I rewatched this video as I remembered you mentioning a JFET boost section. It starts looking to me like the Sunset is a multi-boost/OD-emulation pedal. Hopefully, my Red EP Boost will be here soon. :-) Thanks!
Try running it with a tube amp instead of the Iridium. I've tried running the individual drives on my board into the Iridium and direct to my DAW... Wasn't totally sold on the sound. Iridium on its own is great, but I found it a bit lacklustre while taking pedals (to my ears anyway). But I am very interested in the Sunset for in front of my amps.
How do you like it now? Back when I got it I ran it into a stereo amp. rig with both ams moderately overdriven, one with 1x12 cab (engl retro tube) and one on a 4 12 greenback marshall. The hard setting on that rig was just in fucking sane. Best overtones i have ever heard in my life and also a true stereo sound. Best solo sound i have ever recorded. Since i have switched to direct in (first big sky cab.sim then iridium) the sunset has a harder time somehow
It's a cool pedal. I'm always surprised when I use it which unfortunately is not that often. The hard setting is definitely one of my faves on the Sunset.
Thanks for the question! Basically, the sounds are really good but they're not great. At least to my ears. With Iridium, for example, the amp models are great! A good test would be to try it out against an analog pedal or another modeling pedal and see what your ears tell you. It's definitely a well-designed versatile product and a good value. Hope this helps.
@@ROKZLEON I've been watching all your videos and you made a lot of videos on this combo. Do you still feel like it's good but not great? Would love to hear your impressions now!
3 stackable drives per drive. 3x3=9
3 ways of stacking 9x3=27
6 drives on their own 27+6=33 different base tones
Thanks for the comment man!!! I have clearly been out-math'd if there is such a word!
Best demo about Sunset Strymon, for sure 🇨🇱✌🏽
Thanks man!!!
Well done! A perfect 6-minute overview. Please do these for all pedals ever created. ;)
haha! Thanks so much!!!

You're welcome! Enjoy!
I like your way of how to do the demo! Nice 👍👍👏👏👏👏👏🎉🎊🎉🎊
Thanks so much!!! 🙏🏻
Your guitar sounds awesome through the iridium.
Thanks man!!!
Thanks for your review and opinion.

That's an interesting takeaway. I have used my Xotic EP Booster externally with the Sunset for some tones and have had good results.

Thanks for the comment. I'll try it out!
Love my Sunset. Great pedal.
Thanks for the comment! Hoping to love it too!
Great video Rokz. Looks like you were using Iridium's round amp?
Yep, I was using the Round. Had it set clean and let the pedal do the work. On the stacking part, I used the Punch amp with some drive on it.
Are those noiseless P90 pickups in your les Paul? It sounds great abs I never notice noise.
Thanks for the question. The neck pickup is a Gibson Sidewinder. It's actually a P-100 so it noiseless.

What makes you not like it that much? I've been thinking of getting one..
