You would think this such a trivial thing but I know from that right shoulder pain doing it correctly really matters. I saw an Opera on PBS that was featuring a classical guitarist and using the left thigh to rest his instrument. Tried it and goodbye shoulder pain. It is ALWAYS how I hold the guitar now, less stress on the fretting hand too. Actually to take it a step further the guitar is now in the same position if you were playing standing up.
I also use the same footstool. It actually helps my lower back from strain after a while too. Don't forget to mention that when playing in the classical guitar position that your head will be turned further to be able to see the fret board. I've tried it but twisting my neck further does tire my neck if I play like that I suppose you would become accustomed to it eventually though. Not easy getting old! Hope you like ibuprofen...😆
Same to me...I like it to sit on the couch and play for 10-15 minutes relaxed...but the position is so bad. Particularly with a Dreadnought. With a Parlor it is a little bit better.
Kevin you are 💯 percent correct because when I first started playing my acoustic I ended up with what I would call tennis elbow because I wasn't holding my guitar the correct way or even setting the correct way!! And that makes all the difference in the world... Great video my friend and a lesson to be learned!! In making yourself comfortable and relaxed.. let go of the tension lol...
Awesome advice, especially with the footstool. When I first started playing guitar, I would sit crossed legged, which was detremental, as my foot went to sleep. Anyway, I sourced a block of offcut wood, 150mm high and wide, which works wonders, more comfortable as well...
Super useful info here for any guitar player who could use a reminder about their posture. I was glad to see that you use a footstool - I do too, for the same reason (e.g., elevates leg, avoids guitar sliding off). I would also suggest paying attention to muscles/body as you practice to make sure you are not tensing up w/o realizing it....Great video! This one is has been added to my RLG Playlist.
Thanks guys for this advice. I gave playing just looking to the fret dots a go instead of watching hands and I was surprised to find my chords without craning my neck. ❤
Really enjoyed three day challenge. Awesome. You really did a masterful job going over everything. Thanks so much for your instruction and support. Thanks and God bless.

Not a beginner, just surfing the internet, like your site.
Nice Martin!!
I am so inconsistent with my posture, ADHD makes it hard to be consistent and stay still
Thanks. Stick with it.

So true!
First video I've seen that breaks this down so well, turns out I'm a tilter and a huncher. I'll pay attention to that now. Thanks for the great videos
You are most welcome.
My bad habit is sitting leaning back on the couch. It really changes your hand positions. Great vid as usual and thank you for posting!
Guilty…..

Hi Diana! Happy you liked it. It is the little things that add up. Good advice here too!
I use the classical position all the time .thanks.
Great
Interestingly, the position that he describes is something I have seen in flamenco players, like Manolo Sanlucar.
Thank you!! That was super helpful!
So glad!

Noted. Thanks!
Where do you get those footstools from, great idea?
I ordered one off sweet water.
Thanks so much!@@Relaxandlearnguitar
I find my right arm getting uncomfortable when playing for a bit. It’s almost as if the blood circulation is being cut off. (???)
Pay attention where you are holding your shoulder. You could be putting it too far forward.
