As a Trucker my question is why he didn't pull the pin and just let the trailer drop on it's knees ? I'll need to watch it again to see if he could've gotten near the pin. We can see he pulled the suzies ( that's the only reason to be behind the cab). Sod the Suzies. Pull the pin and get that cab away from the fire.
Drivers in Europe rarely own their rigs so putting your life on the line for something that is insured and owned by someone else is not going to happen. Hell, risking your life for your own cab is stupid enough, a vehicle can be replaced, a person can't.
@@ianbarratclough6822 He can pull that pin in 3 seconds and be safe and warm for the next five hours or stand in the rain and cold for 5 hours. Make your choice.

This report neglects to tell viewers that the truck was transporting "agricultural grade milk powder" for Mole Valley, according to a representative for the company, _not_ "potentially hazardous chemicals" as said here. Mole Valley also said that the fire was likely caused by a wheel or tyre failure.
@@craigrothwell6144 Sorry about that. 🙂 The only drama here is lazy fact checking and reporting by The Sun. ITV is as bad: they can't even spell motorway.

Flour mills have been known to explode due to poor dust control, and milk powder probably has more calories in it then flour. No, the police have take photos and call out CSI and measure skid marks and have their tea. It's always the same. I don't understand why it takes so long either. Get the fire out and get the traffic moving. That should be the priority.
Surely the cars could have been turned around and sent back to the nearest junction? The police and highways should not expect people to sit in their cars for 5 hours
I think maybe the driver was trying to unhook the tractor unit from the trailer? Most people would panic in that situation, just get clear and call it a bad day at the office.
Perhaps THEY dont want us to TRAVEL anywhere with the new battery vehicles ? Best stay in your 15 minute city or in your Pod ideally. Just use the Headset for any travel needs.
In Germany they would have closed the autobahn and then got all those vehicles off by opening the barriers and allowing them to turn around but the Highways agency does not have a clue how to manage this type of incident it is the same when it is heavy snow they allow the traffic to get stuck for up to 11 hours instead of closing the access and turning round the traffic so they do not freeze to death.
Typical police any excuse to shut the motorway a few weeks ago in the same area an accident and they closed the mway nearly all day now this I live nearby and its utter chaos on every road in any 15mile direction still only one lane open after 9 hours, perhaps the police joined in the 5 a side
You would think a large lorry carrying possible material like that would carry a very large industrial fire extinguisher to inhibit the fire at its start
I was stuck on the M5 a few years ago when a Ginsters pasties lorry caught fire just before Sedgmoor Services. I got out of my car to go the loo. A police car pulled in behind me. A policeman said don't bother about the pasties they are a bit burnt.
The UK's ability to deal with such an emergency and get the motorway moving again is pathetic. I can say this because I now live in France and have seen how the French deal with such situations. Efficiently and effectively.
