    Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!

    What I learnt about strawberries Bea is while it is fruiting and it put runners out cut the runners do not let them grow until after the strawberries have ended their season then let them grow their runners and then you can root them up into the soil next to the plant or pots and once established in the /soil/pot you cut the runner and this way you get more strawberries. Have a lovely day.

  • @ruththomas6361
    @ruththomas6361 16 дней назад +1

    One little hint on gardening Bea. I learned this the hard way. Look up companion gardening on-line. Some plants do very well planted close to each other; some do terrible. I once planted tomatoes and Brussel's sprouts near each other and neither of these did well at all that year. Also, planting marigolds to keep the aphids away may work for some, but not only did my parsley get aphids; so did the marigolds I planted with it.. Go figure. Have fun.
    Theo, the off-grid is looking marvelous, and it is good you have neighbors who you can work with when you need help.

    I grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California, San Francisco. My Great Aunt lived along Great Highway,which follows the beach area, off of Hwy 1. Anyway, all of which means nothing to you. Lol. But, this might. My Great Aunt Nell had a huge garden filled with earwigs. She used to lay bamboo tubes down (small ones) and the earwigs with climb in. I was young, so dont know why they liked it. But, she would then dispose of them. If you don't want to kill them you can move them to a new home far from your garden. If you try it let me know if it worked. Good luck. ❤

    Hello from the southeast USA. Been following your adventures/journey for a few years now. Loving what you've done at Miracle Mountain. Love your U-shaped raised garden. I'm looking for something very similar for my garden. I'm 66 y/o and want something easy to maintain and easy on my back. I have all the necessary old natural wood to place as infill after I dig into the ground a bit and add amended soil on the top layer for plants/veggies to flourish.

    The trick to good strawberries is to plant 20 30 100 plants straw , and as much as it pains you ,nip off all the flower buds every day so as the energy goes to the roots feed them your coffee grounds seaweed tincture or any algae from your pond... and when first weeks of summer roll in let them flower and they will boom big blush outrageous berries all summer. Enough for every day or to put in the freezer.

    Unsolicited advice - scrap metal looks like GREAT repurpose raised garden bed "stakes" for individual plants or even to run fencing from/to and have a vine wall for beans, sweet potato vines, etc. They can also be cut to be short stakes for edging support, etc. Or use them as stakes with fencing to keep animals off young trees

    I live in Southern California and it gets hot and dry during the summer. I use clay olla’s or oya’s in my raised beds in between my plants that way it decrease the amount of watering I have to do every day during the summer. I use organic coconut coir as my mulch and not saves on water but I do not seem to have as many pests! Good luck. I also use small clay olla’s in my pots and hanging pots and that makes a huge difference in watering and the plants love it and thrive. Thank you for your great videos.
