As a brazilian from Rio, I'm astonished how they managed to make a track that's so faithful to some parts of the city. You can see the Maracanã Stadium, the Sambodrome, Christ the Redeemer, the Lapa Arches and even the modern Cidade Nova subway station that's not much known outside the city. Of course the layout differs from the actual city but everything is there, and for an arcade game that isn't supposed or even expected to do this much, it is even more amazing.
It's refreshing that there are still some devs out there that value gameplay over graphics. Yes it's not cutting edge graphics but it's FUN as hell!
Why can a person not value both things equally? Is that a crime?
@@paxhumana2015 Nobody said it's a crime but also value gameplay over graphics isn't a crime neither.
Could be better optimised though
This is what can be done when a game is specifically designed for switch. Amazing graphics and perfect 60fps.
Smash IV comes to mind.
It's an arcade port though
@@Eichro exactly not Designed for switch just optimized for it!
@@darnelldarbouze2692 1080p at 60fps on both arcade and Switch versions.
Me and my friends have been playing this for the last couple weeks and it is so much pure, unadulterated, silly fun! I miss these types of games that just wants to put a smile on your face and I hope it finds success so that we get more and similar games released.
This feels most like ExciteTruck to me, that game never gets enough love. It also was one of the few Wii games to support MP3 playback from an SD card! \m/
One of my all time favorite racing games. I loaded the soundtrack from Rock n Roll Racing onto my SD Card and used that for the music.
I agree with everything OP says, loading my own soundtrack to Excite Truck made it so much more... ahem, exciting. Baffled the feature didn't return for Excite Bots, or any other game on the Wii for that matter.
I LOVED Excite Truck!!
For real, ExciteTruck was so damn good.
Just watched gameplay of exitce trucks looks pretty fun
This game looks insane on the OLED due to its color pallet.
great now I'm sold on the game and you got my itch for the OLED acting up again 😂
@@RyanDunchProductions No itch for the OLED here as I play my Switch docked. lol
Oled looks beautiful
I preordered this as soon as I heard about a new Eugene Jarvis Cruis’n game. I think anyone who didn’t play the franchise on N64 will be quick to overlook it because of the graphics, but this is pure 100% N64 nostalgia.
I’m in! Great review !
Looks like a game I would want to buy. Hopefully it is available in Australia so I do not have to import it.
P
With a little supervision I could see Raw Thrills partner with Nintendo for a new F-Zero.
You're not going to get Forza Horizon visuals on a Switch, this is its own thing. I love how it looks.
There's plenty of room for this and racing games on other consoles.
It's not the graphics, it's the aesthetic. It is Eugene Jarvis after all.
Preach!
Please no. The reason why GX/AX is awesome is because the gameplay mechanics borrowed from SEGA racers of old (made sense since it was produced by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the director of Daytona USA and SCUD Race). I don't want watered down Raw Thrills trash as an F-Zero game, I want exciting mechanics of SEGA old racers instead.
@unvillage Then there's no need for one. Release it without half-assing it or don't release it at all.
They need to bring back extreem g racing
@@runnnsf Acclaim is dead.
It's like a combination of Cruis'n, Rush 2049, and Burnout. What a Great mix.
Bit of Crazy Taxi as well.
It looks exactly like a mix of those games. I am looking forward to picking this up.
Love Rush 2049, those jumps and corkscrew roads are crazy.
asphalt 8 too
a little bit of Speed Buster too (it has old american style cars in it, plus sometimes obstacles can pop up (walking T-rex/dinosaur that crosses the road, rock/boulder that comes down the hill, etc.). The alternate routes remind me of the game Split/Second :)
My wife and me played it this weekend and it's fun. You can't expect a skyrim or witcher type depth to it, but it's fun for what it is.
Now if only we could get a San Francisco Rush revival.
oh thanks, i thought this was going to be just like skyrim
@@Flameb0 Its not a good as Skyrim but way better than the witcher
@@Flameb0 lmao 🤣
Ah yes, Skyrim depth is what I look for when picking up a racing game
@@kr1me2000 this game has much more personality
Love your voice, man. It's a blessing. You put me at ease when I feel anxious.
My son plays this one machine anytime we go to Dave & Busters. I was sooo happy to get it for him on Switch. We love it too!
Easily the best racer I’ve played this year fantastic game
I don't need cutting edge graphics for this sort of game. This is the way I like my racers. Unapologetic, old-school fun, not shy about its roots. Love me some burnout 3 style racing.
If you love dreamcast like I do, you will love this! Feels like a typical colorful dreamcast arcade racing game
I love the Dreamcast, but this game has no excuse to look like the graphics cameout from the wii era
Yeah Dreamcast and N64 was the era for this also PlayStation and Saturn
@@heisenbergwhite00 this look better then a Wii game. This had a Wii game look way worse.
@@SkitBitProduction i dissagree, if you seen the Need for speed games on the wii you'll see that this Game looks no better than those.
@@SkitBitProduction if you look at need for speed carbon/ the run/nitro they're not much different aside from the very bright neon colors of cruis'n blast.
I was so excited to see your reaction to this one. Metal Jesus being excited about arcade racers is the wholesome content we deserve!
This is all I've been playing the last couple days. Its so easy to pick up and jump right in.
Great game! Rather than a sequel, I would love a remaster of Cruis'n USA and Cruis'n World.
Made by Eugene Jarvis's team (Robotron, Defender, Smash TV, etc.). Arcade legend!
The game is an absolute blast to play. A must own for arcade racing fans!
you have to go to a special, old arcade to even find classic arcade cabinets and games nowadays. Most arcades now are filled with slots, educational-type kids games, and non-licensed content
I run one of those old traditional arcades with ACTUAL arcade games in Utah!
I was overjoyed when they announced this game for Switch. We have it in the arcade I work at and it's one of the only things we have I enjoy playing there. It is big fun and will be great to be able to carry it with me.
As someone who spent many allowances' worth of quarters on Cruis'n USA in the arcades, I've been really curious about this game and thought about buying it. Thanks for selling me!
Love to see arcade racing making a comeback!
I've had this since day one and me and my mate's had so much fun playing this.
Now I've been finishing the tour's on my OLED and it looks amazing.
Many things about this game intrigue me. Mostly the fact that they essentially doubled the amount of content by turning mirrored tracks into unique tracks, and they took random models straight out of the game and made them drivable. More games could learn a thing or two from that. It's still a tough buy for $40 but I can say that anytime I play it, I absolutely have a blast, lol. If you like this game, give Asphalt 9 a try because it's a lot of fun as well.
Btw, just throwing it out there that I recently joined your Facebook group and it's awesome!
It's $33 at Walmart
It’s $29.99 at target
Noticed the rubber banding kept the car from accelerating. The car was stuck at 155mph but the RPMs were raising and there was no obstacles. This happened here 9:17. The rubber banding is strong with this one.
The wheelie doesn't allow you to take down cars. Just ram into them burnout style. The wheelie allows you to use a car infront of you as a ramp
Another arcade racer that came out not long ago is Hotshot Racing. It's a love letter to Virtua Racing and its great, but this game takes it to the next level.
I actively play Hotshot Racing. My friend and I LOVE the early 90's polygonal graphics aesthetic. Such a fun game!
You don't know how much I've played Crusi 'n USA when I was like 11-12 years old. All the other versions I never played. Maybe this is a good way to get back in to the series. Love Arcade racers like this. I feel it's a little too fast, but it looks really fun as well.
At this point as well, I'd rather have great gameplay over graphics. In fact I remember when 3D games came out around the N64 era. Nowadays, the old school I feel is the new school. Wish there are more games like Shovel Knight, Undertale, Mighty Goose, etc.
Picked this up on your recommendation, since I also enjoy a good arcade racer! Loving it! Great stuff!
I am going to buy this, looks amazing! I don't mind the difficulty or lower-res graphics, looks fun.
I actually got to play that game in its arcade form at a local Dave & Buster's a few months ago...I got 2nd place for my first go at the game...not bad.
Reminds of San Francisco Rush from arcade and N64
This and Metroid Dread are the first Switch games I have been interested in in a LONG time!
Dude this game looks 🔥, I remember playing cruisn USA and exotica at the local arcade and than getting the ports on the 64 along with off road challenge. I may have to get a switch again.
SOLD! Thanks for the great review!
Cruis'n USA was my favorite racing game to play as a kid at the arcades. So much fun, I definitely gotta pick this up
Cruis'n Blast is a hell of a lot of fun as well! There's two Blast arcade machines right by where I work
This game is such fun. All I need now is a port of Burnout 3 and that’s me sorted into retirement
I actually saw this in an arcade, enclosure, steering wheel and all. Much more fun.
this game is so much fun on the cabinet and with a wheel set up.
now having gotten my own Switch I will grab this eventually just to get back to it.
Back on the N64 I much preferred the Rush games. Cruisin was the "fake" kind of racer. In Cruisin it was like you were stuck in one spot while the track moved passed you and you could slide it left or right a bit. It didn't feel like you were really moving forward. The Rush games were a full 3D environment where you really moved around in it. This game does look sweet though.
I recently bought this during the Cyber Monday deal on the eShop for around $25. I agree, this game is amazing.
Do you still recommend it or did the gameplay get stale after a while?
@@wrathpsp I still recommend it. The game will soon get a multiplayer update.
Nice to see you review a individual game. Stunning review !
I picked this up 1st day it came out. I gotta say, this is better than the arcade version. Tons of fun! I do own an original Cruis’n world and USA arcade machines.
I literally bought this yesterday and I can't wait to start playing it on my oled switch
Oooh, that’s gonna be some eye candy.
There was an Easter egg scene of the two dinosaurs fighting against each other from the Jurassic park arcade game.
This is not a knock against the game, but it looks like a Dreamcast game in 2021.
I’ve been playing Dreamcast racing games on my pc ( redream emulator ) & I agree with you but this doesn’t like bad for being under $40…
Very true but looking like a Dreamcast game just adds to the charm
The Rio de Janeiro Track looks awesome! a lot of details and a huge map
Great Spot On Review....keep um coming MJR!!!!!
Great game! Happy to see Cruisin return to home console
This one reminds me of the 90s classic SPEED BUSTERS. I played that one to death back in the day.
I absolutely LOVE arcade racing games.
I’m loving this game! It’s a BLAST!
It reminds me a little of Excite Truck and Excite Bots. Those games are so underrated.
Wish it had random weapons to shoot enemies would love that
Eugene Jarvis is an icon.
Yep! I just picked it up for $20 on the switch lite! It's really awesome!
My wife grew up on the n64 games. She's thrilled to find out about this game!
9:24 Yes, this is a Nintendo ip. There is no chance of this coming out anywhere else. In fact, this is a 2017 arcade release and the cabinet is decorated by the Nintendo logo just like the old Cruis'n games.
Ok, you convinced me to buy this game! Can’t wait to have it delivered
We need more MJR reviews!
2:35 there are really only a total of 9 unique tracks. five from Crusin Blast arcade and four from Super Bikes 3.
You're right, Tanya. Some of the tracks were from The Fast & The Furious spin-off of arcade games from Raw Thrills.
My favorite part of NFS Most Wanted. Was the wacky physics. I felt like I'd never know if a car was going to fly across the screen or not.
@Text Me On @MetalJesusRocks What's up?
It doesn't get any better than a mid week Metal Jesus video!! Means everything's going to be good for the rest of the week.
Come on. We're Cruis'n. Let's go cruis'n. Let's go cruis'n!
Those hidden elements (keys) look interesting!
Awesome review 👍 first channel I thought of to watch a review on this game when I herd of it
Nintendo is the publisher so I don't see it going to other consoles any time soon. And yes you are right there were three Cruis'n games on the N64 (USA, World, Exotica). There was also Cruis'n Velocity on GBA and just "Cruis'n" on the Wii which was a stripped down port of the original The Fast & The Furious arcade game.
Oh man! I used to love playing these games in the arcade
Whenever I see a new arcade racing game, all it makes me think about is how much I want a new proper game in the Burnout and Ridge Racer series.
Or a new Sega Rally, or Daytona USA.
This is no Ridge Racer, it's barely Cruisin USA on N64
@@blazzing Do you mean you don't think it's very good?
Love, love, love this game! I found this game at the Showbiz Cinema arcade section and after playing several family members at the arcade, I knew I had to have this at home on the Switch. At the arcade they have two linked car consoles next to each other so you can race each other. Once the family saw it at home, we played for hours unlocking keys, cars and tracks. The challenge is worth it and I hope also, they keep this franchise alive in the future with more Cruis’n games and updates. I loved all the N64 Cruis’n games with Cruis’n the World my all time favorite. Get it, it is just like the name, a blast!!!
Launch day purchase for me. Don’t regret it a bit.
I think the gameplay loop is just too short. They should have done a track with at least 3 laps or set your own laps for the race. Something that was standard on a lot of consolized arcade racers.
As a nowhere rep of 'PONG', hockey, tabletop, Ice Hockey, Blades of Steel, Wayne Gretzky's on NES, NHL on Genesis...until NHL 2018 on PS4...the Seattle Kraken have beautiful colours on their Jerseys...welcome, but remember Edmonton Oilers rule...we have McDavid after-all and had Gretzky. Yay!
I love this game. It's very flawed in some ways but I just don't care. It does rubberband a lot, but once you learn the tracks a bit. You can just save all of your boosts for the end and that will usually secure the win
I'd like to see this come to steam.
Reminds me of the kookiness I loved in the San Francisco Rush games
I think the slightly lesser graphics was a great choice. Not only will it improve the frame rate, which is what we really want on Switch; especially in handheld mode, it also adds to the retro inspired, arcade charm.
Just got this in the mail today. So excited to try it!
Switch is straight up killing it this year. Great review!
If you watch the race from Ready Player One , this is an entire game that is bonkers like and that and it’s just pure joy. Play it with friends for maximum enjoyment.
I like the graphics in this port, much better than what we got for older entries in the series for it’s transition from arcade to console.
This game made me play racing games again.
Utterly love this game. I would love to be able to go in a slow touring vehicle to be able to see the amazing backgrounds including the dinosaur sections
from the moment it was revealed at E3 I knew I had to pick this up! I also missed out on the arcade version but I do love me some arcade racers as well. but I did play a fair amount of fast and the furious. I must've spent two or three solid weeks grinding away levelling the cars and trying to get all the keys and stuff, was easily worth the 40 bucks. I feel like if you take issue with the graphics this probably isn't the game for you, I think they're fine.
If you’re thinking “I used to love those games, I wonder if I’d like it now?” Yes, yes you will.
Great game to play with young kids. My 3 year old loves it and the rubber banding also applies to players he can keep up and in the fun
Exactly! My friends 3 year old was still able to play and enjoy due to the rubber banding gameplay. Had lots of laughs with how much he was actual competition! 😆
I picked up Dread and this last Friday. I have not even put Dread in my switch yet haha, Crusin blast is so much fun, I’m addicted!
Speed Devils for DC was very simmilar and also awesome:)
This! ^
I just got the game today and you were right Metal Jesus this game is Awesome😎🤘
I normally don’t like racing games but I love this one. The arcade feel is just so over the top.
I also set my switch up to play on my arcade1up and it’s amazing.
I'm doing the same thing. I have a seated OutRun from Arcade1up/Tastemakers and I decided to reskin it into Cruis'n Blast, I'm getting custom graphics for it and I have an actual arcade topper I got on ebay, those are hard to find by themselves. I'm going to replace the stock wheel with a Switch one. And I have led light strips I can place on the fronts of the side panels. Sure the arcade game has better visuals and more details but the Switch has about 25 bonus tracks beyond the five arcade tracks.
Honestly I think this game looks very good. Especially the cars. I love this game.
Keep hearing lots of good things about this game.
We need more games like this..
I can't wait to go out and pick it up I used to go to the arcades just to play this game it was so much fun.
This game was a must grab for me! Love it so much!
Fun game,my 5 and 6 year old grandsons love it. I have noticed on two player mode you can put the controller down and still finish in the top three places though. Still love the constant action.
I Kind of wanna get It now Just because I see how much fun you are having. Does It have multiplayer though? Online or local?
Yes, up to four locally. Haven’t tried online.
It has up to four player splitscreen but no online at all.
@juliette Irene for Nintendo that makes sense
@@MaximumCarne Lmao this is so true
This is such a rad arcade game! Having been waiting for this port for ages!
I will be getting this. Reminds me of back in the day playing through Crusin USA blasting Godsmack. Off Road Challenge is another fantastic racing game for the 64.
