As a brazilian from Rio, I'm astonished how they managed to make a track that's so faithful to some parts of the city. You can see the Maracanã Stadium, the Sambodrome, Christ the Redeemer, the Lapa Arches and even the modern Cidade Nova subway station that's not much known outside the city. Of course the layout differs from the actual city but everything is there, and for an arcade game that isn't supposed or even expected to do this much, it is even more amazing.
Me and my friends have been playing this for the last couple weeks and it is so much pure, unadulterated, silly fun! I miss these types of games that just wants to put a smile on your face and I hope it finds success so that we get more and similar games released.
This feels most like ExciteTruck to me, that game never gets enough love. It also was one of the few Wii games to support MP3 playback from an SD card! \m/
I agree with everything OP says, loading my own soundtrack to Excite Truck made it so much more... ahem, exciting. Baffled the feature didn't return for Excite Bots, or any other game on the Wii for that matter.
a little bit of Speed Buster too (it has old american style cars in it, plus sometimes obstacles can pop up (walking T-rex/dinosaur that crosses the road, rock/boulder that comes down the hill, etc.). The alternate routes remind me of the game Split/Second :)
With a little supervision I could see Raw Thrills partner with Nintendo for a new F-Zero. You're not going to get Forza Horizon visuals on a Switch, this is its own thing. I love how it looks. There's plenty of room for this and racing games on other consoles. It's not the graphics, it's the aesthetic. It is Eugene Jarvis after all.
Please no. The reason why GX/AX is awesome is because the gameplay mechanics borrowed from SEGA racers of old (made sense since it was produced by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the director of Daytona USA and SCUD Race). I don't want watered down Raw Thrills trash as an F-Zero game, I want exciting mechanics of SEGA old racers instead.
I preordered this as soon as I heard about a new Eugene Jarvis Cruis’n game. I think anyone who didn’t play the franchise on N64 will be quick to overlook it because of the graphics, but this is pure 100% N64 nostalgia.
you have to go to a special, old arcade to even find classic arcade cabinets and games nowadays. Most arcades now are filled with slots, educational-type kids games, and non-licensed content
My wife and me played it this weekend and it's fun. You can't expect a skyrim or witcher type depth to it, but it's fun for what it is. Now if only we could get a San Francisco Rush revival.
As someone who spent many allowances' worth of quarters on Cruis'n USA in the arcades, I've been really curious about this game and thought about buying it. Thanks for selling me!
Made by Eugene Jarvis's team (Robotron, Defender, Smash TV, etc.). Arcade legend! The game is an absolute blast to play. A must own for arcade racing fans!
Another arcade racer that came out not long ago is Hotshot Racing. It's a love letter to Virtua Racing and its great, but this game takes it to the next level.
I don't need cutting edge graphics for this sort of game. This is the way I like my racers. Unapologetic, old-school fun, not shy about its roots. Love me some burnout 3 style racing.
I was overjoyed when they announced this game for Switch. We have it in the arcade I work at and it's one of the only things we have I enjoy playing there. It is big fun and will be great to be able to carry it with me.
@@SkitBitProduction if you look at need for speed carbon/ the run/nitro they're not much different aside from the very bright neon colors of cruis'n blast.
Dude this game looks 🔥, I remember playing cruisn USA and exotica at the local arcade and than getting the ports on the 64 along with off road challenge. I may have to get a switch again.
You don't know how much I've played Crusi 'n USA when I was like 11-12 years old. All the other versions I never played. Maybe this is a good way to get back in to the series. Love Arcade racers like this. I feel it's a little too fast, but it looks really fun as well.
At this point as well, I'd rather have great gameplay over graphics. In fact I remember when 3D games came out around the N64 era. Nowadays, the old school I feel is the new school. Wish there are more games like Shovel Knight, Undertale, Mighty Goose, etc.
I think the gameplay loop is just too short. They should have done a track with at least 3 laps or set your own laps for the race. Something that was standard on a lot of consolized arcade racers.
Many things about this game intrigue me. Mostly the fact that they essentially doubled the amount of content by turning mirrored tracks into unique tracks, and they took random models straight out of the game and made them drivable. More games could learn a thing or two from that. It's still a tough buy for $40 but I can say that anytime I play it, I absolutely have a blast, lol. If you like this game, give Asphalt 9 a try because it's a lot of fun as well. Btw, just throwing it out there that I recently joined your Facebook group and it's awesome!
Love, love, love this game! I found this game at the Showbiz Cinema arcade section and after playing several family members at the arcade, I knew I had to have this at home on the Switch. At the arcade they have two linked car consoles next to each other so you can race each other. Once the family saw it at home, we played for hours unlocking keys, cars and tracks. The challenge is worth it and I hope also, they keep this franchise alive in the future with more Cruis’n games and updates. I loved all the N64 Cruis’n games with Cruis’n the World my all time favorite. Get it, it is just like the name, a blast!!!
Noticed the rubber banding kept the car from accelerating. The car was stuck at 155mph but the RPMs were raising and there was no obstacles. This happened here 9:17. The rubber banding is strong with this one.
I picked this up 1st day it came out. I gotta say, this is better than the arcade version. Tons of fun! I do own an original Cruis’n world and USA arcade machines.
I actually got to play that game in its arcade form at a local Dave & Buster's a few months ago...I got 2nd place for my first go at the game...not bad.
I normally don’t like racing games but I love this one. The arcade feel is just so over the top. I also set my switch up to play on my arcade1up and it’s amazing.
I'm doing the same thing. I have a seated OutRun from Arcade1up/Tastemakers and I decided to reskin it into Cruis'n Blast, I'm getting custom graphics for it and I have an actual arcade topper I got on ebay, those are hard to find by themselves. I'm going to replace the stock wheel with a Switch one. And I have led light strips I can place on the fronts of the side panels. Sure the arcade game has better visuals and more details but the Switch has about 25 bonus tracks beyond the five arcade tracks.
from the moment it was revealed at E3 I knew I had to pick this up! I also missed out on the arcade version but I do love me some arcade racers as well. but I did play a fair amount of fast and the furious. I must've spent two or three solid weeks grinding away levelling the cars and trying to get all the keys and stuff, was easily worth the 40 bucks. I feel like if you take issue with the graphics this probably isn't the game for you, I think they're fine.
I seen this game today and was reluctant on getting it. Now I will. It looks like fun! Thanks for posting this. Been looking into a lot of your suggestions not only on games but music as well. Thanks for introducing me to porcupine tree 😁
I will be getting this. Reminds me of back in the day playing through Crusin USA blasting Godsmack. Off Road Challenge is another fantastic racing game for the 64.

Back on the N64 I much preferred the Rush games. Cruisin was the "fake" kind of racer. In Cruisin it was like you were stuck in one spot while the track moved passed you and you could slide it left or right a bit. It didn't feel like you were really moving forward. The Rush games were a full 3D environment where you really moved around in it. This game does look sweet though.

It's refreshing that there are still some devs out there that value gameplay over graphics. Yes it's not cutting edge graphics but it's FUN as hell!
Why can a person not value both things equally? Is that a crime?
@@paxhumana2015 Nobody said it's a crime but also value gameplay over graphics isn't a crime neither.
