"It may look like a 20-year-old energy drink commercial crossed with the best-looking Dreamcast game never made, but Cruis'n Blast is an endearingly earnest arcade racing time capsule filled with goofy, crowd-pleasing vehicles and a small assortment of zany tracks. However, it's also an extremely lean package that struggles to disguise its origins as a wafer-thin, five-year-old arcade cabinet. It's fast, fun, and eye-catchingly daft but take care diving in, because it's only ankle-deep."
This game had the smallest team working on it. When you remember that this was not a multimillion pound production with thousands of people working on it, it's all the more impressive.

Looks great. Reminds me of Beetle Adventure Racing on N64, if anyone here is old enough to have played that. We need more arcade style games like this.
Beetle Adventure Racing was one of those games where most people overlooked it because of the name, but was actually one of the best racers on N64

My most played N64 game.
Many of us do! We gave it the #21 spot in our recent Nintendo 64 Top 25. Such a creative and fun, but sadly almost forgotten racer.
Lol, IGN can never win. If they take the time to play a game, they get called out for reviewing too slow. If they hurry up the review, the comment section blasts them for a rule misunderstanding 😅

It looks a lot easier than Crusi'n used to be. You went off the track in Redwood Forrest or if you hit those trees in Beverly hills you were done for.

Thanks for covering it! Arcade racers like this will always be my favorite genre, even if it's on the brink of extinction. A bit shallow but great fun. Would be nice if you would have used more than just one car for the review, trying all the cars is what makes this game fun...

@@wildsword6856 Well yeah, open world arcade racer like Forza Horizon, The Crew, NFS are doing great - but old school track racers like Ridge Racer, Burnout - not so much.
What do you mean arcade racers are on the "brink of extinction?" What about Hot Wheels Unleashed? That gave us a nice arcadey style racing game.

It just looks silly and fun. Harkens back to a time when games didn’t try to be anything else.

Of all the games that were released on the Switch, this is the one that finally made me get one. As much of a pain as rubber banding is, it's still Cruis'n, and it is definitely a blast.
Now if only we could get a new Hydro Thunder, my life would be complete.

H2overdrive is one that you should really check out, it's the best hydro thunder spiritual successor that I've ever played.

frame are all over the place with this game. jumps to 30 fps every 15 seconds, not worth mentioning the 60 when it isn't close to stable.

The guy didn't mention all the keys you find on the tracks and bundles of cash you find as well!!! So this game has plenty more content than what he says!!!!!!! :( How about mentioning that Eugene Jarvis who worked on every Cruis'n game to date also worked on this one!!!!!!! :(

This is arcade port and its been here since 1997
it looks pretty but there really isn't a lot of substance to it, with no real hinderance to hitting anything or damage, no real skill needed to play it it just gets boring quickly.
Even arcade racers need some skill to play, this just takes that necessity away and your left with cars that never really leave you, a drift mechanical, pretty looking, cyberpunk esteemed "demo" .
If there was some way of damaging your car, or the feeling of being in 1st place and getting there, with better opponent AI, this would be great.
Maybe I've missed the point but hot wheels would be a better purchase and that's almost the same, better though.
This is great for younger players however
Go try to be edgy someplace else.

Didn't know there was a break button. Bit of a worrying comment to make even in a review of an all out arcade driving game. Even if you rarely need it you will at some point. Also comments on lack of arcade racers yet links to Hot Shot Racing and Hot Wheels at the end. There still out there. Horizon Chase Turbo. Even Forza Horizon 5 and Dirt 5 are more arcade than sim

Not played this new one, but compared to the prior entries in the series, the A.I. rubber-banding leans closer to Mario Kart, but it shouldn't be anywhere near as grindy, since this series dates back to the before-times, in the long ago, before free2play/pay2win/pay2play/paymore2win became the business model for every arcade racer not called Forza Horizon...
The engine is in the back but the exhaust was in the front lmbo
