To some Jews, eating non-kosher food is spiritual death making kosher very important. Over the years, there have been some major scandals where non-kosher food is sold as kosher. In some cases a seemingly trustworthy religious Jew started out cutting corners and increasingly made greater substitutions. Sometimes economic desperation was the motivation; other times pure greed. The kosher food industry has advanced with greater checks and balances making it difficult for one person to cheat the system. However, the vegan/gluten free industry is often without consistent and effective standards. There are many problems in the food industry. Fish is often misidentified. You pay a premium price for a certain species but receive another. Many times the restaurant is duped but restaurants often substitute the species of fish without telling you. In the past, olive oil was reported to be adulterated in whole or part with other kinds of cheaper oils. It was reportedly a great money maker for organized crime. I don't know if the problem has been corrected or is simply no longer talked about. There have been many problems with food adulteration especially in third world countries with such items as baby formula and apple juice. Many Americans believe we have too much government regulation but our country is fortunate to have the USDA and other agencies to protect us. Are you really eating what you think you are eating?

    • @ProbablyBobby
      @ProbablyBobby 6 месяцев назад

The USDA is bought and pid for like every other corrupt industry. Every regulatory body is a thin veneer of security from the police to the FDA to the USDA to the “education” system. The older you get, the more you realize that nearly everything is a scam and most people are just out for themselves.

Funny, a story almost completely similar to this happened in Israel.
A bakery owner claimed he make vegan pastries and fooled the vegan community for months.
Eventually some people who found his pastries suspicious took them for a check and found they're definitely not Vegan.
The baker owner also faked that he invited a professional chef called "Stephen" to create more vegan pastries especially for the vegan clients (which eventually turn out to be his cousin, how crazy is that! )
The all thing blow up and after hundreds of vegan people complained, the Vegan community sue him with the help of "Vegan Friendly", it took time but he finally brought to justice last year.
The vegan lawyers as won and he had to pay big compensation and do work for vegan charity organizations.
I also found out he closed his business few months ago (I guess karma bite him at the end😅).
Crazy to me what people will do out of greed for money, and the audacity to lie with so much confidence to a full community, not even talking about the risk for people with allergies.
You have to be really self center and have really low conscious that see no one else but yourself to take those kind of actions.

(Acknowledging that this is still alleged so far.) What I can't fathom and am absolutely appalled by, on top of putting people's lives in serious danger, is this woman was "apparently" a true vegan?? She had even been a writer for VegNews and an animal rights activist who knew all the disgusting horrors cows and chickens are put through so humans can steal their milk and eggs and yet she supported those horrors by buying Dunkin Donuts made with dairy and eggs, and gluten, and deceitfully passed them off as vegan/gf!? wtf! It's just mind-blowing that someone with as much vegan street cred as she had would do such a thing... This on top of putting peoples' lives in potentially real and serious danger... Hopefully no one died, but we'll never know who many people experienced severe physical reactions to eating those donuts. This is something someone with no real conscious would do, in Psychology that definition usually falls under Anti-Social Personally Disorder, or Sociopath.

I was once subscribed to a RUclips channel where a vegan couple spent the majority of their time as creators on RUclips living the van life. They soon transitioned into a non-nomadic lifestyle to set down roots. After having a child, the wife started craving meat and, as a family, decided to become carnivores again. She said they were actually looking forward to hunting deer, as horrific as that sounds.
The point is, it does happen where people change their eating lifestyle, which I assume is what The Savory Fig Lady has done. I, for one, have no plans of changing my eating habits like that.
I'm guessing The Savory Fig lady was probably capitalizing on the fact that vegan products are generally expensive. So by buying Dunkin' donuts at a lower cost she could make money by charging more for her stuff. There are people who have serious allergies to certain ingredients, but she cared not for that which makes her lack of sympathy for them really heinous. May she get what's coming to her!

I think accusations seem questionable enough to prevent everyone from rushing to judgement.
From what I can tell, the OG Instagram post seems one-sided, Dunkin hasn't seem to carry the donut in question since 2020, 21, and The Savory Fig has a online portfolio of products that clearly didn't come from Dunkin.
I'm not accusing either party of wrong-doing and TSF clearly may have done what's accused.

For Fat Thursday a big supermarket chain (Lidl) provided doughnuts labeled as "vegan" and before the offer was officially displayed someone took a photo of the ingredients and there was literally milk and milk powder listed in the ingredients and the label didn't even state they were vegan (just the flavor of the filling). And since these were the same doughnuts as a for the past few years, well, we've all been lied to by SUCH a big company! They were left with hundreds of thousands of these doughnuts and were even giving them for free but it definitely made the vegan community in Poland loose the trust for them completely.

That is nuts and I’m sure some people got sick if this is true. The bakery in Brooklyn looked divine! Do you have any recommendations for a vegan bakery in Manhattan? Will only be there for a couple days and wont make it to Brooklyn sadly.

My fave vegan bakery is in Brooklyn unfortunately. It's not gluten free but it's fully vegan. It's called le petit Monstre. but we do have Erin mkenna's bakery in Manhattan! She has vegan/gluten free stuff as well!

I think she could have filmed herself making the products in question and posted it online as proof of her innocence.
