- Part 11 of my series dedicated to showing Steve's parts on the In The Round concert release from the Hysteria tour. I'm uploading with Foolin' as it's just rhythm on that vid. This is probably the hardest one so far in terms of me battling against old muscle memory (you can see my old cover here • Def Leppard - Armagedd... ). When I played a few gigs with a Leppard tribute band, this was my favourite to play but I had to do a mix of Phil's stuff and also modify things to help with vocals. So this was fun to get back onto Steve's playing style. Also cool to finally show that Steve does power chords in the last chorus to fill it out. :)
For any new subscribers I have gained in the last couple of years, I used to mainly upload Def Leppard content. From 2011 - 2017, I uploaded covers of pretty much the whole main discography, minus the Yeah! album and a couple of acoustic tracks (You can find here - ruclips.net/user/pl.... Looking back, naturally I think every video can be improved on, especially video quality wise. I always find I hear new things over time too and start realising that certain parts can be played differently and maybe more accurately. So I always like the opportunity to correct anything from a video that is numerous years old. Plus, I really love playing this stuff and Steve is one of, if not, my favourite guitarist.

I use a Charvel DK24 (it's purple) into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X.

@@josephwilliams710 Hi Joseph! Yes, I use my fingers to pick the opening riff. I think Steve would do that live.

I got one not long after I first started to play and now prefer it. I actually play very light and the pick glides over the strings I feel. Think Phil was using them in 83 and got Steve on them in 87 too.

Thanks, apparently those 'Bang A Gong' like chords in that rhythm was how Sav brought this song to the table.
I find it interesting how they just left the original live intro in the dust during the Adrenalize tour. I think Viv tried playing it like this during the clubs, but did the whole building up thing right into the song pretty quick.

How quick were they to put the 'Black Betty' singalong bit in and was there any other songs they did there as well? I think it was maybe a chance to get Viv more involved with some crowd interaction building up on a well known song, as opposed to his solo spot.

I've always wanted to ask you. Does Steve play the fast part of the solo different live than on the album? As much as I listen to the live performances it sounds different to me.
Yeah he plays it different live.
@@bwm5150 what does he do differently?. It's like he pulls off the first e note but it doesn't sound as clear as when he picks it on the album. Could be because the Firebirds Pick ups are way more passive than the Les Paul's?

There’s also a Soundslice tab in my original cover ( ruclips.net/video/luG1ovzD874/видео.html) but not sure if that site is still formatted okay. I think he just varied it to make it easier and suit the tone. He alters the opening as well which is maybe to fill out the sound.
@@bwm5150 great explanation. I get it now. Thank you. At high volume with distortion it would be hard to play that solo exact live and it sound clean. That's the best way to vary it. Thanks
