  • An Ohio man tried making the right call by walking home after a Halloween party with his co-workers. Dressed in his make-shift costume, Lakewood officers approached him after noting he “couldn’t walk straight.” What happened next left “Batman” in the back of a cop car.

      I do agree, but technically being drunk in public is against the law. For safety reasons, for example, if a drunk stumbled into the road and got hit by a car, it would mess up his life and the driver's.

      Honestly this is a touchy situation for the cops. Ohio law states excessive public intoxication is illegal. The cops are on camera. If they don't, they get chastised because they didn't follow the law. If they do, they get chastised by people who see the video. In the end, Tyler was appreciative of the officers and that's all that really matters. Just think of how our society would be if everyone took responsibility like Tyler. That's not what defunding involves, it's unfortunate that people don't research more, they just hear a word they think means something (in their defense it's likely the media and social circles they interact with take advantage of their ignorance). It means doing a thorough assessment based on statistics and overview of departments to determine unnecessary overhead and administrative misuse of funds that could otherwise be allocated for staff and services that would improve the safety of the public AND LEO. For example if a department has say 7 SWAT vehicles and historically they've only ever needed or used 3 of them then they might be able to offload just 2 of them and along with other such reduction in overhead (not in the number of officers employed but overhead, like having numerous clerical staff doing the same job) that might allow for mental health professionals to be staffed to allow officers to focus on events more within their scope of duty within the community, to deescalate during domestic calls if applicable, provide follow up services to reduce recidivism, to provide ongoing education and training to staff to improve safety and community support and also to provide desperately needed mental health support to LEO... that's it... it does NOT mean getting rid of police 😊

    Annoying, condescending cops. They think people will think they are cool and cute when they watch the footage, but they really come across as bullies. NO reason to arrest the guy. He did the right thing by NOT driving.

    99% of you didn’t watch the whole video. They didn’t arrest him. They detained him, drove him to the police department’s parking lot, then let his brother come and take him home. He was not booked. No criminal charges. Just a minor misdemeanor fine.

    • @jamesk0ua
      @jamesk0ua 2 месяца назад

      He was hurting himself. Walking home in an intoxicated state is dangerous. For him especially, and could be life changing for the person that he walks out in front of and they accidently kill him. He is a fool. That is a given. No one with brains gets themselves in this condition and circumstance. For those of you that say "I have done this or I do this all the time" . Well you have answered your own question. They gave him a Misdemeanor ticket to remember the incident by. It is not really punishment. More like a reminder. And his drunken behavior was explained to him and the dangers it entails. They gave him the name of a social recourse if he needs help in the future. And the officer gave him his name and some advice. It was and ending that could have went a lot worse. He could have been mugged or killed.

    The only way someone could possibly be responsible while drunk in this city is either hiding it while driving or having someone drive you home. Even if you aren't harming anyone or causing a disturbance, you will be arrested just for not walking entirely straight.
    Wow.

    GUY IN THE VIDEO IF YOU ARE READING THIS: I promise you have not been in any way shamed by this video... just look at the other comments if you doubt me.
    -You actually did the right thing by not driving
    -Were tons more polite drunk than most people are sober
    -You had to do that while taking all this patronizing crap from the cops (who were not doing good policing).
    If this is you at your worst or most undignified you are doing tons better than the rest of us. Hold your head high!

    I watch these channels all day, everyday to see police catching the bad guys, but this is some shameful BS cop bullying... the dude wanted to be responsible and walk a few blocks home, then he gets rewarded for a public intoxication ticket?? So you can't drive home drunk, you can't walk a few blocks home drunk- what is the alternative? No, a $3 ride is not feasible because the Uber driver will decline a trip that short. These Lakewood cops are a poor example for those rookies by demeaning well intended citizens.

    I know I left the bar a few times fairly intoxicated and walked home. Never ran into the police and now I'm glad I did because apparently you can get arrested for Walking home while being drunk. Wouldn't it be an easier for you guys just to have brought him home.? He was preventing a drunk driving incident by not driving and you arrest him for walking.
    I agree with many of the other posters. This was just painful to watch

    I will say this is an example of the police kinda violating a persons rights. Even if they wanted to confront him, his initial response to their questions was enough to atleast either let him go or take him home since their just "Soo concerned"... But atleast he had someone who cares to get up and come get him. 😸☺️
