The rode video micro (the little one) is about $60. It sounds WAY better than any built in mic, can be used with a smartphone and doesn't need batteries.
Obviously from the video the Pro's sound better but they are a lot more expensive.

Wow they are some awesome improvements! I wasn't going to upgrade, but the auto switch on/switch off feature and the lithium ion battery alone are worth it!! Great shout on using the friction arm so you can use it as a boom mic.

Camera trick. There's no such thing as magic. It's just an illusion, Smoke and mirrors, Tables and chairs, Peaches and crea..........I have no idea where i'm going with this.

Hey @Two Broskis, I just bought myself a Rode VideoMic Micro and did some shootings; but to my taste it percieves way too much surrounding sounds (cars passing behind in the street when shooting outside, people chatting on the street sidewalks, etc), when filming someone talking in front of the camera .
How do you solve that?
Or is the Video Micro not good enough to cancel surrounding sounds overall?
