Nice work! Your shots are lovely. We've done this for film/video for years. Here's a couple tips: dim the incandescents a bit to warm up the skin tone naturally. Paint the wood black. Try using clear (unfrosted) bulbs. These look great on dark skin! Don't listen to anyone telling you to use led's or compact flos. They are wrong! Bad color from these lamps, changes the shape in the eyes and not the right type of emitters. Incandescent bulbs are the charm! You can get daylight balanced bulbs from a film/video lighting rental house. Good luck!
Are you insecure or something? Does it really look like he needs "tips?" He seemed to be doing quite well for himself. Just enjoy the video and keep it moving. People are always trying to give out unsolicited advice to make themselves feel relevant or something. SMH
why paint it black? get a life dude. It acts as a reflector and fills in the shadow noob
Why is everyone assuming these tips are meant as corrections? I just read them as well meant additional info. And I'm grateful for people sharing their experiences.
All of this, it's priceless, the way the community is helping each other. Let's not assume negative things about each other before we know each other :-)
Just one word...PHENOMENAL!!!
And your natural light Portraits, are amazing !!!
You are phenomenal!
Subscribed after watching 30 seconds. Thanks Dani!
Very clever and clean, i made one back in april from scratch, similar but to complicated!! think i need to make some up grade to 1.2 with my ring light... lol thanks.
Very cool idea! Simple execution with stunning results.
Wow! That’s brilliant!
Thanks Dani for sharing the insight about your lighting setup!
Very good dani, that voltage lamps are
INCREDIBLE!
Getting started on mine today ;)
Excellent work Dani !!!
Good morning, Dani - thank you for sharing. A friend of mine build similar lighting you have but yours creates a dramatic results. Once again thank you for sharing.
Deadly good Dani , Bravo !!!
that is awesome! very inspiring!
This ringlight is awesome!!!! Where can i get thisss pleaseee????
That was awesome Dani!
Awesome video!
Fantastic light
This is awesome. Can you give us some more wiring information if possible. And may be link the the extension cord with dimmer. Thank you so much!!!
I've gotta build one! Dat light!
Hello, could you please explain why you are not getting shallow dof with strobes? You can regulate the power of your strobes... with less power you will need a wider aperture which comes with shallower depth of field. Anyway I'm looking forward to build something similar to your ringlight.
why did you use normal lightbulbs and not leds ? they are dimmable too and dont create that much heat.
Hi than you for sharing this. I am planning to making one but just to be sure, is this a white light?
I just bought a ring light but the lighting is kinda cold, how to get that warm lighting you get with yours please ? thank you
Someone here like Linking Park. :)
COOL
wrong...most models prefer the flash than a light on her face on all the time
Hey Dani, I'm going to build my own ring light and I would love to know how many cm oder inch the diameter of the wooden ring/plate is.
I'm sure it's a great light but you should not have wired it with extension cord. Extension cord is not made to carry the amperage of all those bulbs. This could be a major fire hazard.
27 - 42 watt bulbs draws about 9.45 amps, an inexpensive 12 ft. 16/2 SPT-2 Cube Tap Extension Cord - White costs about $2.58 at Home Depot and is rated for a maximum of 15 amps.
The real power P in watts (W) is equal to the power factor PF times the phase current I in amps (A), times the RMS voltage V in volts (V): P(w) = PF x I(a) x V(v) assume PF = 1
How do you soften such light?
I currently have a ring light to take beauty pics of makeup. I just bought a tamron 65 mm for my nikon d5100 what would be the set up for it? Should my iso be 400 ? And the shutter speed 1/200?? Idk what im doing but i'm currently not loving how washed out the colors look.
Please respond !!
Thats a pretty broad question my friend.
Hi Dani, which ND filter are u using please? Thanks soo much, i love your work
He said, no ND. Did you even listen?
Great project, I love the light color you're getting from those bulbs, however I'm having a hard time finding them from your description v. packaging you hold up in the video. Can you post a link or part number? I thought this was it, but it's halogen. www.sunlite.com/Products/25141-SU/Default.aspx
it is halogen he corrected it with an annotation in the video
Could you share the details of the type of light socket you used... Like a link it home depot or something like that ..I have never noticed that type of light socket.
Mike Tarsitano did you ever find tose sockets?
I just made mine last week - it is incredible!! I used a similar design to Dani's but made a few adjustments and went into more detail on the assembly instruction in anyone's interested... www.hailey-harris.com/blog/2014/9/my-version-of-a-giant-diy-ring-light
Hailey Harris loved your version the picture of you is amazing.... the catch lights really compliment the soft light
Thank you!
Your version is very nice You explained it so well but Can you tell me the height and width that will be very helpful for me
Hi Harley, do you still have it? could you send me tips to dijamartins@gmail.com? I can't find your web blog ;(
2:29 the wiring
Dani, I have been searching high and low for these light sockets. Do you have any info you can share on the please?
Tim Green did you ever find them? Im searching for those sockets
Love the shots, and the idea. The girl with the glasses, and the girl with the purple hair were sexyy :D
I wander what is CRI of those bulbs.
42w per bulb, that's a huge load all running back to a single outlet.
can someone share how Dani connected lights ? without actually cutting the wire
Gautham Gorla did you ever find out?
Can u tell me the height and widht please :/
