    Nice work! Your shots are lovely. We've done this for film/video for years. Here's a couple tips: dim the incandescents a bit to warm up the skin tone naturally. Paint the wood black. Try using clear (unfrosted) bulbs. These look great on dark skin! Don't listen to anyone telling you to use led's or compact flos. They are wrong! Bad color from these lamps, changes the shape in the eyes and not the right type of emitters. Incandescent bulbs are the charm! You can get daylight balanced bulbs from a film/video lighting rental house. Good luck!

      Are you insecure or something? Does it really look like he needs "tips?" He seemed to be doing quite well for himself. Just enjoy the video and keep it moving. People are always trying to give out unsolicited advice to make themselves feel relevant or something. SMH

      why paint it black? get a life dude. It acts as a reflector and fills in the shadow noob

      Why is everyone assuming these tips are meant as corrections? I just read them as well meant additional info. And I'm grateful for people sharing their experiences.
      All of this, it's priceless, the way the community is helping each other. Let's not assume negative things about each other before we know each other :-)

    Hello, could you please explain why you are not getting shallow dof with strobes? You can regulate the power of your strobes... with less power you will need a wider aperture which comes with shallower depth of field. Anyway I'm looking forward to build something similar to your ringlight.

    why did you use normal lightbulbs and not leds ? they are dimmable too and dont create that much heat.

    Hey Dani, I'm going to build my own ring light and I would love to know how many cm oder inch the diameter of the wooden ring/plate is.

  • @michaelestes787
    @michaelestes787 10 лет назад

    I'm sure it's a great light but you should not have wired it with extension cord. Extension cord is not made to carry the amperage of all those bulbs. This could be a major fire hazard.

    • @dsdragoon
      @dsdragoon 10 лет назад +3

      27 - 42 watt bulbs draws about 9.45 amps, an inexpensive 12 ft. 16/2 SPT-2 Cube Tap Extension Cord - White costs about $2.58 at Home Depot and is rated for a maximum of 15 amps.
      The real power P in watts (W) is equal to the power factor PF times the phase current I in amps (A), times the RMS voltage V in volts (V): P(w) = PF x I(a) x V(v) assume PF = 1

    I currently have a ring light to take beauty pics of makeup. I just bought a tamron 65 mm for my nikon d5100 what would be the set up for it? Should my iso be 400 ? And the shutter speed 1/200?? Idk what im doing but i'm currently not loving how washed out the colors look.
    Please respond !!

    Great project, I love the light color you're getting from those bulbs, however I'm having a hard time finding them from your description v. packaging you hold up in the video. Can you post a link or part number? I thought this was it, but it's halogen. www.sunlite.com/Products/25141-SU/Default.aspx
