Everyone already mentioned the cover stories, those definitely matter but I’d also HIGHLY recommend reading the SBS sections. They’re basically Q&As where Oda answers fan questions - believe it or not it’s not just trivia, sometimes it’s legit canon that does get introduced later in interesting ways. One Piece as text is incredible, but the META - when you see people guess things or you make guesses yourself because the intuitive logic of the world is starting to click and you see it come to fruition, that just hits different. Or you guess wrong and a simple explanation blows your mind - you’ll often times hear people talk about their first OP read through and then once they reach a certain point doing a 2nd either because they can’t believe it’s that consistent since chapter 1 or to catch something in chapter 1 that ties into chapter 500/600/800/1000 etc. Super pumped to see all these vids, my only wish is that they were longer 😂 I LOVE the book club approach and selfishly want it to continue not just for OP but any new series, there’s definitely the awesome story recaps but the book club style works so well with OP and a few other series

I'm happy to hear that you actually enjoyed the Syrup Village arc. Generally, the fanbase doesn't seem to like it, but I feel it is drastically underrated. The duplicity of the story is very clever. By centering the narrative around Usopp and Kuro, it is essentially a Tale of Two liars; the one who lies to bring joy and levity to this town and to his friend, and the one who lies with malicious intent to take everything away from them. Also with how complex and overcomplicated the series will eventually get, it is kinda refreshing to have a plot that is just, "Tiny Village gonna be attacked by Pirates. Go save tiny Village. Heiress gives us a ship as reward."
One Piece is definitely childlike and whimsical but it also deals with heavy themes throughout the series. That and the characters are the core part of what make it such an amazing franchise to so many people. Just wait for Arlong Park you'll understand exactly what One Piece is when you finish that arc.

Shanks was teasing luffy, since he’s a kid, and in the anime showed off about the fact he can swim well - only to then eat a devil fruit out of hunger and anger🤣
Is that really what happened in the anime? I haven't seen that episode since more than a decade ago, but in the manga Luffy already couldn't swim, and then he ate his fruit, which guaranteed that he never would be able to.
One piece is fantastic. I don’t know why I didn’t get into it when I was younger. Young me was just like “pirates that can’t swim, seems silly” while I wasn’t wrong the story is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous… but the way the world is built, the characters are portrayed, the action, the concepts it covers. It’s a story that just embodies EVERYTHING
ngl man, my experience was a lot like yours at first, i was not digging the art style initially, then i realized that the art style was intentional, so that over 1000 characters could be highlighted in this series and you'd remember most of them with ease, that struck me as genius once i realized that. the series also really starts simple and cartoonish kinda, where Luffy is this pure hearted dumb kid but then he develops into more than just a pure hearted dumb kid, he's an A-tier main character as he develops but at the end of the day is still the same person that you came to know and love. i could go on but i see you've just only scratched the surface, so i'll stop here, good that you're starting your journey, i hope you come to enjoy it like so many of us have come to.
@@mistyk.1734 i didn't get One Piece then, i was watching it from a perspective of more realistic and down to earth series. Luffy was for me too over the top, was behaving too stupid and often endangering others, was too childish, and most of all, i hated his fight with you know who in Whisky Peak (specifically, why the fight was happening). With time came understanding and appreciation of character so I changed my mind, even about how i saw him earlier. But i still hate fight in Whisky Peak. (Edited to remove spoiler)
People go into one piece thinking it is just a funny cartoon and so most miss the many emotions in the east blue. Most people think it like another battle manga and focus of powers and fights. Those aren't important in One Piece. The emotions are. I also got so much more after rewatching east blue. Live action also miss this whole point as while the story is there, the things that make one piece one piece isn't there.
true op fans know the joy of the series unraveling before them, so really only the darkest and evilest ppl will spoil it. Its just that great an experience
Always happy to watch someone fall in love with this story, just a quick note, if you ever want to ensure how to pronounce something you can always check it out in the anime to ensure you're doing it right!
Have a good journey. It's an amazing experience. You'll get more of a fan as long as you you keep reading. Even when you think you're totally hooked, Oda sensei will hook you even deeper. Both as a story teller and as the story itself. When you get to the point of weekly waiting for a new chapter and is brake time, you'll become frustrated and discovering new nakamas starting their journey is a balm.
One thing about one piece, no side characters is ever gone forever. Everyone is as important in this world as everyone else. It's a world, yes it's following the story of luffy, but in the grand scheme of things, no one is more important than anyone else. Another thing I wanted to add about Luffy's character is he is incredibly kind. I wanted to remind of the part where the dogs pet shop got destroyed amd luffy handed the dog the single box of food that was unscathed so that the dog may protect it like he did the store
@@jakeshower he's a pirate, not a hero. But he'll go all out for those who are brave but cannot put up a fight against stronger bullies, like Chouchou. He respects courage.
Nice to see new people picking up the best story ever made. Just a tip watch some of the anime you will learn their names and names of places. I started my journey watching one-piece back in 2007 I started reading the manga when I caught up. Every character you meet does eventually come back in the story the foreshadowing is on a completely different level then any other. Probably why there is like 50 people on RUclips who cover one piece weekly.
As someone else who is relatively new to One Piece, let me also welcome you to the fandom, and if you enjoyed Syrup Village, you're going to absolutely LOVE the Arlong Arc. That is the first truly serious arc, and it's the arc that makes most people fall in love with the series. When it comes to Luffy, there's never really an explanation. Basically, Luffy is Luffy: he's a horrible liar, extremely foolish and stupid at times, yet also extremely courageous, charismatic and intuitive, has an indomitable will and absolutely understands people. When people ask him questions, he tells them the truth because he doesn't know how to lie. Also, for pronunciation, watch the anime. From what I know, it's extremely faithful to the manga outside of the filler, and even the filler is usually pretty good
1. Read Cover Stories 2. Keep an eye out for panda man 3. Start a conspiracy/connection board. (you'll need it) 4. Enjoy yourself, imo its the best modern tale to be told. 5. This is the year of One Piece so nice timing. IRL One Piece netflix show, new arc in the manga, and very important parts of the anime happen this year.
this is why we should cherish diversity of opinions, the general consensus is EVERYONE and their mother thinks Syrup Village is lame, is bad, its boring, and its a chore to finish. And then this guy comes and says it actually hooked him into the story. So if he so far likes the blandest of arcs, I'm sure he'll love what comes next.
Fictional Scholar. Books and Tropes, How to Train your Gavin. Some of my favorite newbies. Gavin goes Chapter by chapter in his Vlog style vids. Very good
Honestly hyped for this, been wanting like a good quick recap of the story so far while I wait for the dub to catch up to the sub and I love your Comicstorian videos so it just works perfectly.
3:30 i always assumed it was supposed to be characterization for not only shanks, but his whole pirate crew. they had access to a devil fruit and right after the shock of luffy eating the fruit passed they went right back into banter and being cheerful, so i never had the impression that it was very precious to them in anyway, meaning they either didn't care about it much because they could easily get more or had already encountered them before without consuming them, or they had already made up their minds about not consuming the fruit for some kind of personal belief. another reason why i don't believe it was just clumsy writing or something oda changed his mind over, but an opinion of shanks is, well the very first devil fruit powered pirate we meet is buggy only a few chapters later and not someone else hundreds of chapters in. also: it was shanks explaining that to luffy not to the viewers directly, so there is another reason it could have been character writing.

The best way I can describe Luffy is that he's an incredibly emotionally smart person who gets people but he also just doesn't give a shit and just does whatever the fuck he wants like the absolute force of nature that he is
I rewatched and read twice and I love watching someone start their one piece journey. Especially manga form ✊🏾
You have no idea how great this journey is going to be.
One piece is truly amazed. It picks up even more at Marine Ford, but it’s a journey that’s so amazing, you’ll love it
all one piece fans love watching new readers fall in love with this amazing world... I give it 1 month before he starts rocking a straw hat lol
I'm glad you're getting back into the series, and I loved your takes on it so far! This was a great video, and I'm excited to see your reactions to the rest of this amazing story! Hope you enjoy!!
Can't wait for more. Comicpop and Rob next? Lol
Welcome Nakama! I'm very excited for you to delve into One Piece. New subscriber here! In addition to recapping the story it'd be nice if you added more opinions, how things made you feel, and what you think will happen. Enjoy your adventure reading the best story ever told!
Its nice watching you go through all the phases of reading op, im working on re reading it rn and read new chapters every week so seeing other opinions is always cool, if you catch up you could do theory videos since there's still more questions than answers with one piece
I think Zoro's biggest understated moment is him FINDING Luffy in the first place.
@@mistyk.1734 Luffy is known by anchor because he was unable to swim even prior to eating the devil fruit. Even in his shirt is the word anchor.
You're probably the first person I've watched who has a more negative opinion of luffy at the beginning, so I'm curious to see how that develops.
Tf
fyi that was also my beginning. I started to enjoy Luffy more same time as Ussop - around Water 7. Had to grow on me.
@@royalfun1031 ???
@@avatardm why didn't you like Luffy so much at the beginning? He's been my favourite since the very beginning, so I'm always curious.
A question for the comment section:
Would Benny cry?
Yes
It's one piece, obviously he will.
I 100% believe so, and if he’s truely 100% blind I think it could be twice
@@TooDamnDank more
People go into one piece thinking it is just a funny cartoon and so most miss the many emotions in the east blue.
Welcome to One piece man. I genuinely hope you enjoy it and all the adventures you'll go on.
Also selfish
@@royalfun1031 he's kind, he is not nice. That is for sure
@@jakeshower he's a pirate, not a hero. But he'll go all out for those who are brave but cannot put up a fight against stronger bullies, like Chouchou. He respects courage.
Holy shiiiit!!!! Welcome to the community!!!! It's going to be wild riddeeee!!!!
Fantastic recap. For a speed run type of deal you got everything of value so far.
Congrats we welcome you to the One piece community. Been here since 2003 myself
From what I know, it's extremely faithful to the manga outside of the filler, and even the filler is usually pretty good
1. Read Cover Stories
2. Keep an eye out for panda man
3. Start a conspiracy/connection board. (you'll need it)
4. Enjoy yourself, imo its the best modern tale to be told.
5. This is the year of One Piece so nice timing. IRL One Piece netflix show, new arc in the manga, and very important parts of the anime happen this year.
I love panda man
welcome to the fan base 🥺 can’t wait to watch your one piece journey ☺️
This amount of chapter reviews / summary are perfect
Totally just found out your doing one piece content now what! Right on your in for a ride. And the world building al9ne will have you hooked
YESSS this is my favourite media franchise and it makes me so happy to see one of my favourite creators getting into it
this is why we should cherish diversity of opinions, the general consensus is EVERYONE and their mother thinks Syrup Village is lame, is bad, its boring, and its a chore to finish. And then this guy comes and says it actually hooked him into the story. So if he so far likes the blandest of arcs, I'm sure he'll love what comes next.
Can't believe I've only just found this channel! Love One piece and have only read so many of the manga so I'll be watching these to catch up 😁
Fictional Scholar.
Keep it up! I love seeing new reader experience One Piece for the first time
Perfectly valid takes expecting the show to be cartoon themed and executed. Enjoy your journey lol
"Starts One Piece for the first time." Year later, "OK changing the channel name to OharaHistorian"
Your in for a treat. The story and world building is fantastic.
Oh shit One Piece is my favorite story of all time and this is my favorite comic coverage channel 🤌 hyped 🙌
As someone caught up I absolutely loved this video. Great job looking forward to more
I very much look forward to listening to each and every especially DC comic breakdown, dark crisis was just unreal 🙌🏻 but now you’re getting into my favorite thing in the world! Oh my God I can’t wait for you to start talking about the different gears! Enjoy!!
10:49 he could not, in fact, have broken out at any point. The lion broke the cage.
So excited for you to experience this journey. One Piece is one of my favorite anime/manga

Just to hopefully keep a wave going, make sure to focus on the cover stories when they occur since what occurs within them helps provide context to developments in the manga without needing to take away from the main plot
Huge fan of Comicstorian!
So glad you're getting into One Piece!
It gets progressively better from here; can't wait to see your reactions.
one piece is my favorite series of all time, if i can give a headsup is that little details matter and sre expertly connected but it does require you to pay attention

ONE PIECE BOOK CLUB!!!!
Love to see it
I wish you good luck on your journey. May you catch up to the rest of us that wait weekly for chapters. I hope you enjoy it and don't get bogged down by the longevity.
Me a comicstorian fan since 5th grade (I’m in college now), but also a one piece fan since 11th grade. Am blessed with the knowledge that Benny has started one of the series closest to my heart
It's a shame some people still judge One Piece by the art-style.
I'm glad you're starting to read it. You're in for an incredible adventure.
Angel Densetsu was one of the first manga I read. It is a strange story, but entertaining. A really good manga is Holyland. Both of these stories are much shorter than One Piece. If you're going to get into manga, I thought I'd recommend it. I just came here from your Robin and Supergirl go on a date video.
This is so cool because i started the manga around the same time and had no idea about the mangastorian app. The crews leaving east blue now
One Piece keeps getting better and better the more you read!
Dude, you are in for a wild ride! This is by far thè best story ever written
If you wanna know how to pronounce something, the Japanese generally annunciate every letter in a word
Great work, i think u did an amazing job with the names and as well a great summary
20 chapters, the longest one yet. I actually exploded with laughter at that.
