Watching a review after purchasing these 2 wrenches this week. I have snapon, straight jaw 12&17", costed 4x more over 20 years ago. Almost never use regular pipe wrench anymore

I just found your channel and subscribed. Thank you for posting 14:28 this video. I learned a lot about Swedish pipe wrench. I didn't know before. I haven't seen them on the job yet. Question for you, if you needed leverage. Could you use a pipe, for breaking torque? How will the tool due. Is it fragile, or will it slipped? No one wants to get injured. Again thank you 👍
I appreciate your support! Yes you can slide a pipe on the end. However the larger 21” have plenty of leverage for most. I haven’t put a pipe on mine year but they feel hefty enough to support a moderate length pipe.
Teeth are good but mine "pops" under pressure and loses its grip. I returned it. I'll rely on my strong hand grip. Old-fashioned pipe wrench. Channellock 414 that really bites and will easily snap a 3/8" bolt in a few seconds without much effort.
Interesting that it pops. I haven't experienced that with mine yet, but i havent had to reach for it too often. Knipex makes thier own pipe wrench that also looks very nice. Its about $70 and would be worth putting on your radar.
I've noticed the same thing with my 12 inch set. I think it might be the button on the nut slipping. It only happens when I pulling really hard on a pipe. All I have to do to fix it is to re-tighten the nut again and they work fine.

4:52.. this is a nice option..traditionally NOBODY puts any type of grip on that part of the handles...
I've got old Swedish pipe wrenches. I've got the Knipex 17"& 13". ....
I picked up the ICON 12" set and I gotta say for what you're getting for $20 it can't be beat...👍

Ridgid has Swedish style pipe wrenches. Never seen one in person. Not sure they're offered in the U.S. I use the Bahco made Snap On one's. I'm sure those are good being premium ICON.

I was very disappointed to see they were made in china. They feel so cheap and bad. I wish they had made them in Taiwan and just charged a little more.
Yea the Icon line has been pretty solid with US or Taiwan made. This was a bit of a let down. That said these are very nice for being Chinese made.
As time goes on, harbor freight has a habit of creating “new skus” for items that already exist but are being made in a new factory. I can see them doing this with these pliers once they find a taiwan manufacturer, unless they intentionally chose a Chinese manufacturer for margins
@@thetank2078 fair assessment. Due to size and amount of material used I get going with China. However I would have rather seen this labeled as a Doyle or Quinn because Icon looses a little credibility going this route.
I agree 100%. They really do feel cheap too, like really cheap. I returned mine.

That skinny pin worries me. I like these Sweedish style pipe wrenches. I find it tough supporting any company that just copies the designs of others and undercuts them by producinf in Asia. But they are a steal for $20.
The pin seems pretty solid. Especially considering the price point. They are a copy but Swedish pipe wrenches have been around for decades. Harbor freight has had their Pittsburgh version for quite some time. What I like about this version is they appear to have incorporated 2 new features. The S-jaw and the quick sliding adjuster. All new features out there. 👍🏻
