    I was recently diagnosed with PTSD and Autism Spectrum, at the age of 60! It makes so much sense: I've always had trouble with relationships and making friends. A lot of people over the years told me I'm weird. Someone even asked me once "what planet are you from?"

    As a possibly autistic mid 30’s adult I really appreciate you highlighting this! According to the online checklists I meet the criteria almost to a T for both sensory and auditory processing disorders which are the two most common cooccurring disorders amongst autistics and I’ve struggled my entire life with eye contact on top of that so I’d love to know exactly where I fall on the spectrum eventually at some point once I find someone who can diagnose me officially.

      I recommend you get diagnosed by a psychologist who is trained in autism! That is always better than a clinician who doesn't deal with ASD on a day to day basis.

      @@MegaSnow121 thanks so much, and I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been going that long without a diagnosis, only being in my 30’s still as frustrating as it’s been at least it hasn’t been a silent struggle for quite as long. And yes my plan is to seek a diagnosis eventually, I’ve just been busy with other things and haven’t had the time to seek it out yet. Glad you finally got yours, better late than never!

    Who would I talk to about getting tested for this? These descriptions really resonate with me as I have trouble maintaining relationships. Including with my mom. Teachers thought I was smart but really I didn't need repetitive examples and didn't get answers wrong because I made a photographic file. 55 and been late-diagnosed with autism as an adult. I never felt like a regular child growing up. I was always in special schools and residential schools during my entire childhood. It was a developmental disorder, but it was only later in life that it was recognized as autism.

    The doctor who diagnosed me with ADHD also said "theres no way i can be on the spectrum." Now im wondering if it was because i was incredibly smart or good at masking for a toddler. Because how the frick am i relating to so many aspies? I skimmed the ASD diagnostic criteria, and it fit me pretty much perfectly. Theres even some close friends who suspect i could be high functioning at least. Planning on getting an assessment when I have the money.

    • @itscloudyinside
      @itscloudyinside 24 дня назад

      don't waste your time or money, unless you want the formal diagnosis for practical reasons (claims, benefits, etc). clinical psychologists would use the same assessment tests you can find online on reputable platforms. they either read them out to you if you have trouble reading/are a child, or they would just put you aside to answer the questionnaire yourself and then calculate to tally the score. there is no physical aspect to the assessment aside from then having a conversation about it at the end to learn how to self-manage via CBT/practicing awareness (which as an adult, you would have already learnt through the years). but if you're struggling with achieving something, then yeah, the psychologist would probably have some tips for you to reframe your way of thinking. but if you are on the aspie end, you probably know what to do/how to react already, it's just fighting against having to willingly add more boxes to the 'social interaction' checklist.

    Many women and people who had to be independent are late diagnosed. If you grew up in a small town and you assumed everyone had a tough time, or you think something is wrong with you, it’s difficult to even get help. Psychiatry needs to include neurodivergent in their learning. It’s weird that they currently do t and therapist also know nothing helpful. ABA therapy is torture and is the equivalent of gay conversion therapy. Autistic people need accommodations and understanding. Educating neurotypicals would actually help us the most. Also reversing discriminatory laws against us and adding protections for us would help. Trying to force us to not have the disability we have does NOT help.

      Imagine thinking everyone is on the spectrum. I can remember seeing you comment on another video saying this. When it comes to a condition, the word spectrum is used to describe the range of experience within that condition, NOT the entire human spectrum. The autism spectrum is a spectrum of the severity of symptoms FOR autistic people. Do some research on what the autism spectrum actually means 🤡
