I remember when that album came out. I stumbled across it in a record store, knew nothing about it. Bought it on cassette on a whim and my teenage self didn't stop listening to it for ages. In fact I'm going to go play it now.
I remember when this released, I never purchased a copy of it until today on record and sounds fantastic

Yo, thanks. This is cool. I am lucky enough to have been the first person to ever play this record on the radio anywhere. Played songs first off the advance cassette. Actually, I had played Mighty Joe Young before that, on our local rock show in San Diego.
The first time I did a full band interview on air, was only a couple days after the release of Core. I told them I was going to play Crackerman, and they explained to me that the song should never be played without Wet My Bed preceding it. I never did play one without the other from that day forward.
Something super cool happened as I started Wet My Bed. The guys were excitedly looking at each other when they asked if they could maybe run out to the parking lot and crank this from their car stereos, as they had all driven to the station separately. They had only heard Sex Type Thing, and Plush on the radio thus far, and I think they had been kidding and couldn't believe I was playing Wet. I first made them promise they'd be back in the studio by the end of Crackerman, then gave my blessing to run out to their cars. That's how sweet they all were - way back in the beginning - they wouldn't leave until I gave them permission. 😅. I will always love each one of these badass musicians. We were pretty tight for a few years. Dean even brought Purple into my show to World Debut the entire record during Afternoon Drive. They remained loyal as all hell for years. Unfortunately, we eventually lost touch after Dean and Rita got divorced and the guys weren't based out of SD any more. Otherwise, when I found out Scott was addicted to heroin, I'd have tracked him down and sat on him until he got clean. 🥺
Scott explained the Core cover to me as being representative of the world revolving around women and that the guys all very much find the opposite sex to be a reason to live, and for the species to be worshipped. Something expressing those "core" ideals, I don't recall his exact words. I just can't forget the moment he made sure to explain that to me, even after our interview was over and we were saying goodbye, standing near a poster I'd hung in the studio of the record cover. I know I was beaming, and probably blushing, too. I remember greatly appreciating the level of respect. I certainly found many musicians, from unknown to international rock stars, respectful and grateful for the support of an influential programmer. But I'd suffered my fair share of bubble-headed metal misogynists also. I guess I'd just never experienced band members so passionate about their ultimate respect for women. It was sweet and refreshing.
The days of CORE were probably the best days of my life, too. So I loved this piece. 🤘💯🚀

My favorite album! I remember buying the tape! Every song is amazing!
No album cassette has been worn out as often than this one. Must have got 3 copies. We were obsessed with it. This was not 'grunge' , this had a lot of swagger, something that was missing entirely from Grunge.
I tell ya, Core has got to me my favorite all time album. Backbin the days of cassette tapes, I had to repurchase, because I played it so much that the quality actually diminished. Then I repurchased it again when I got my first cd player. It blared through my car stereo I'm my 78 LT Camaro. I was heavy into comic books, and as I created, and drew my characters, Core was always there placing me in a trance where my creativity thrived. My first love was music, but my artwork took over my interest. I've gotten out of my artwork, as things just didn't pan out. Literally decades later, I got backbinto my music, but once again, things happened. A couple of years ago I became disabled, and with my backpay, I had my recording studio built. Slowly creating new material, but most recently I've been getting back into my artwork, and purchased an art table that would serve as an art, and recording work station. I purchased a full set of technical pens, other art supplies, and the first thing I did was start downloading Core songs, along with other STP tracks, but Core was the muse. Unfortunately, with my condition, it's been nearly 2 weeks of episodes, and I haven't even been able to get into my studio. I will be prepared when I am though. Thoroughly enjoyed this walk down memory lane.
Although they were from California(San Diego), I always considered STP as an honorary Seattle band. And Core is included with Nevermind(Nirvana), Badmotorfinger(Soundgarden), Ten(Pearl Jam), and Dirt(Alice In Chains) in a Grunge version of a 1991-1992 marathon that I have on weekends every so often too.
I was into most of the 90’s music growing up. But I was a bit late in the game. Kurt has already died, that summer my friend let me borrow Nirvanas incesticide. And Nirvana’s unplugged played on repeat on MTV. The 1st rock album I bought was BUSH’s 16 Stone….so I was still experimenting with music. I could not get into Pearl Jam, Black was as close as I got. But STP was the first band I could relate to. Even Green Day’s Dookie seemed like pop. I played STP’s Purple nonstop, then I got Core later. By the time Tiny Music came out, STP were my favorite band. They were the real thing. They’re weren’t posers, they weren’t trying to be pop or sell lots of records. As much as people said they sounded like Pearl Jam, I couldn’t hear it. STP are and will always be underrated. I did like Nirvana, I did get Alice In Chains but STP did their own thing and kept the American rock flag alive in the 90’s. Until I started getting into British rock later in the 2000’s. It’s weird to me how even after 20 years rock stations still play Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Green Day & STP. WHERE’S THE NEW ROCK!?!? (Greta Van Fleet are ok….but they seem to be more nostalgic than being in the moment)

I have a photo of me as a twelve year old in 1989 playing Plush on a Cortez acoustic guitar. Amazing thing I had there. The groups of people just overtook my music. They were going after the Geffen Records producer and he had to comply.
One of the first Album's I bought on my own,30 years,WOW!
This was their DEBUT record. It was perfect. I'd probably only do away with "Wet My Bed" as it wasn't really a song. Otherwise, flawless in terms of actual songs. The songwriting, playing, production, arrangements, and mixing is top notch.

I am with Robert - grunge was something made up by PR departments and magazines. Aside from being alt. rock STP sounded nothing like Nirvana, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney Soundgarden and AIC. Neither do any of the grunge bands sounds like the other.
Drums, bass, electric guitars and vocalists with American accents are the only common elements - there isn’t a realty a grunge genre. It’s a bunch of different alt rock bands that happened at the same time in history.
Pumpiks got thrown into “grunge” too and same goes for them.
They all wrote amazing music - I guess that’s the common thread!
No one wanted to be known as a “Grunge” band even though some of the best rock music came with that label. Dead and Bloated wasn’t even a single but still received decent radio play throughout the 00s and even today. Grunge happened when i was a baby but it’s still my favorite
