Finally playing Yakuza 0 (first yakuza) and I am in love. The story is SO GOOD i feel like I’m playing a Netflix tv show. I thought the subtitles would bother me but it’s so immersive! New favourite series!! So happy I have so many more games to play!!
Never played the series but always looked cool, this review shows up and upon finishing it i went to Gamestop and got the game... 4hr in i regret nothing! i LOVE IT!
there was a time after yakuza 4 and dead souls were i thought yakuza was dead in the west. i thought id never play yakuza 5 in english and 0 was a dream. now the series is getting a bit more popular and its fucking amazing. seriously if your interested in this game pick it up, evidently its a great place to jump into the series. yakuza needs our love! it deserves our love!
Stormcrown You're in for a ride if you like it, there are 2 more on the way plus a bevy of PS exclusives that are awesome. As a PC/PS4/3DS player, 2017 for PS shaping up to be another solid year because of games like Yakuza.
The fact that shitty loli weaboo games get easy releases in the West constantly yet Yakuza struggles to maintain a small audience is disgusting. Hopefully Yakuza 0 ends up being a surprise hit.
WaddleDee105 I know right? Anime games got localization so easy (Hyperdimension Nep, Fairy Fencer F, Senran Kagura are examples. Dunno if you can give more better examples) But this? Trivia : Yakuza 5 need to wait for like 3 or 4 years to get a English release. And its just a digital copy.
bro the same people buying the shitty loli weaboo games were also the ones who wanted the Yakuza series localized in the West for years don't be so harsh
great review, I sure hope this game brings in a bigger audience for yakuza in the west so we can maybe get these games in the same decade as they're released in japan
@@comicstars671 we still haven't got them yet but yrah, i'd love all the Yakuza games on PS4 (we've already got Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2 on PS4 so here's hoping)
I'm so glad this is getting good reviews. Great starting point if you've never played the series. A remake of Yakuza 1 is coming this summer to PS4 and Yakuza 6 is getting localized as well. If you're on the fence, play it!!!!
Great review, Ben! Definitely hyped to learn more about the Yakuza series now. Also, kudos to whoever is volunteering Chinese translations - it's a decent translation that must have taken time & effort. So..I feel kinda bad for pointing out that it has no punctuation and hence doesn't read as smoothly (same goes for the FF15 review, assuming it was the same translator).
I've been waiting to get into this series for a very long time and this will probably be my first Yakuza game. The reason I've been waiting is because there's about 7 games in the series and they're all around $20 each so I've been waiting for some kind of HD collection. Also it doesn't look like you can even play the original Yakuza games on newer consoles so I'm happy that Sega seems to be making a better effort with bringing this series to western audiences with the Yakuza 1 remaster and all that. It seems like a good time to pay a little more attention to the series.
This game looks phenomenal. I've never played a Yakuza game before. Between this, Gravity Rush 2 and Nioh, it's a Japanese-gaming extravaganza for the next couple of months.
Positive reviews across the board. As someone who's first in the series will be this one, I have hope that this will become the biggest Yakuza game in west!
Phong Hoang I don't see a reason to get KH 2.8. For people who haven't played 3D it will be great, but I already played it on the 3ds. And as much I want to play as Aqua again I don't think it worth it because her story is only 4 hours.
+Daakkuu Sama I started KH2.8 tonight, Aqua's story alone is worth it for me to see how a KH game looks on ps4. I have played 3D but playing it on a tv with a real controller feels so damn good.
Yakuza fans I need help. This is going to be my first Yakuza game. Can I start with this or will I be lost? I'm assuming because its a prequel I won't be lost right?
Yeah, you will be fine jumping into this one, and then you'll be able to continue with the 1 remake and then the rumoured 2 remakes, then the remasters of 3,4 and 5. Great time to jump into the series!
This and potentially Kiwami which will be released in the summer are the best places to start right now! Telling you now that this is not GTA, but if you like story driven games and into Japanese culture, you're in for a treat!
It takes around 2 weeks for him to make a review for a game (according to his released schedule)..that includes the props, skits and what not alongside his review.
Musouka Ikr!? I bought it, today. Prior, I only played a Yokuza game via demo, years, ago. I never tried the others in the past. There became, too many. At least, this is a prequel, so you won't get lost. This game has, SO much to do via side missions, games, etc. The fighting is great, ESPECIALLY the finishing moves. The story seems cool, as well. I knew nothing about this game, til last week. I'm glad I found out about it. I'll be playing, this for a while.
I was always very interested in starting playing Yakuza, and since 0 is a prequel, is it done in a way that it´s good that it would be a starting point for a complete newcomer ?
it kind of is but it also does so much for the longtime fans that something is lost by making it your first, the series is all around so fantastic its worth just jumping into some of the earlier games instead anyway. If you really dont want to start at the flawed first entry i do recommend starting at 4 since it was basically the soft reboot of the series
Yes, but also no. Plot wise yes, you can just jump in and enjoy it as a standalone story, wich also ties in nicely with the first Yakuza, without spoiling it. The gameplay is the best it's ever been, but if you play 0 first and then go from 1 through 5, the combat of the earlier games (especially 1 and 2) will feel incredibly stiff and clunky. Also, the part of the fun of Yakuza 0 is seeing the origins of the characters you've come to love, especially since some are completely different form how they are in the rest of the series in a really fun way. So if you're ready to experience a dramatic drop in graphics and gameplay when going forward through the rest of the series, then yeah, go play this one first. But for a, in my opinion, better experience, play 1 through 5 first and then 0, and then after that 6. But I know that's hard if you don't have a PS2 or PS3 anymore. Hope this helps! :)
Honestly 1 and 2 are super rare so they are pretty much collectors items at this point. If you REALLY want to play the games, I'd start with the ps3 games and know that 3 has a horrible beginning, like you take care of an orphanage, the rest of the game is great though, 4 is better than than, 5 is better than that, and yeah. So if you want to play through the series, start with 3, each game has a recap of the previous games, also since ps2 wasn't hooked to a specific psn account, you'd not get the small trinkets in each game. For example, I'll probably get some like necklace that does a small thing in yakuza 0 or something and some other stuff to help give me a little push since I have yakuza 3, yakuza 4, and yakuza 5 save files on my ps4. (I started with yakuza 2 since I found it randomly before it was a collectors item for super cheap and loved the series ever since, more recently even) It's a series where you shouldn't just rush through the main story, you should enjoy at least some of the side quests and stuff. But yeah, I think you'd be fine starting with 0 honestly, kiwami comes soon after which is a remake of the first game, though the jump to 6 might be pretty weird. It's really up to you, I'd say this series is worth playing through, the 1st 2 games were good ofr their time and 2 was pretty epic but I wouldn't pay the prices you have to pay to get to them, a friend having it might be a better option if you really want to play them. I'm mumbling on, yes the series is worth it, though I wouldn't say everyone would love grinding through the whole series, it's a series that most people would benefit from playing with some gap of time between each game, like maybe a few months. Some people can easily just marathon it though, it's really dependent on how much you take to it. But yes, starting with 0 is better than talking yourself out of it and not playing any of them, a lot of people don't play this great series purely because they either don't get around to it, because they don't want to go through the whole long series, or because they don't know where to start. If you love the series, the older games might feel clunky, but they'll still have pretty epic stories, interesting characters, etc etc to them. If you are just fond of the series but not enough to go back, you will be fine with not going back really. The games are great, the question is if you'll think they're great or if you'll absolutely love them.
Excited for this and will be getting it. wish it did not come out the same day as Resident Evil 7 or Tales of Berseria.... this is gonna be financially tough for Sega. and may make it hard for 6 to come out here later. Anyways great review EZA. I have your yakuza 3,4,5,DS reviews on my phone as well.
I've yet to play a Yakuza game, but they sound pretty fun. I know a guy who was super stoked for this game, and sounds like he's going to be pretty happy with it!
Because of Huber and Moore I actually am importing the amazon version for the business edition. only played a tiny tiny bit of yakuza 4. Hopefully Huber and Moore are right and I love it!
Never played a Yakuza game before (always wanted to!) and now knowing that Osaka is a location in the game, I'm buying day one. Osaka is probably my favorite city in the world and I can't wait to see how accurate or inaccurate it may be to the city!
I played yakuza kiwami chinese version. Just love it. Then go to yakuza 0, even better. Then yakuza 5, a little old but not bad at all. Finally, yakuza 6. Now I am a real yakuza fanboy.
Ben and Brandon : Is the end music track actually from this game? Because I would totally believe it if you told me it was from a Daft Punk album! Now I need to start playing just to feel the beat!
Hey did you used to do video reviews for Gamespot before? You sound familiar. Anyway, I'm getting this game. It looks very intriguing, though it's not my first Yakuza game.
***** GameTrailers, that's what I meant to say. I think I recall this person video reviewing Persona 3. A video I still recommend to people who haven't played it to this day. =p Good to know you guys are here then. I'll spread the word. :)
Never played Yakuza before but this looks amazing. One thing that really appeals to me is that there are a bunch of random side activities you can do like eat at a restaurant, sing karaoke, etc. I like simulating real life in games like GTA and stuff, but GTA 5 has almost nothing in terms of side activities that you'd actually do in real life.
Brian Woo I agree on GTA V ones it so little side stuff you do like Tennis, Movie, etc. Well there at least some variety and some stranger sidequest + random encounter. But Yakuza takes the cake for the side activities though. Bowling, Darts, Pool, SEGA classic arcades, Disco, and even Fishing.
I hate hate hate to do this but out of curiosity, is this 60fps on PS4? I ask because there is the PS3 version and I'm wondering what differences there are (granted the PS3 version never made it outside Japan).
Not gonna watch the video because of spoilers. But this game is going to be a subjective 5 Stars for me even if it sucks. You should all buy it so we'll always get as much Yakuza love in the west as right now.
i now have the problem that i can't raise Majimas Heat during battle. It simply stays at lvl 1- First i thought it was because i raised the difficulty to hard but Kiryu's Heat is still capable of rising. Does anybody know why Majimas 'Heat isn't?
You'd think that a Yakuza gangster would make enough money to buy a suit in their size, but the characters have always been going full 90's with their choice.
It runs at 1080p 60 FPS on basic PS4. I doubt the dev-team would bother patching in 4K support or other gimmicks for Pro, especially since they've long since moved on to another game and a brand new engine. No point in coming back.
Finally playing Yakuza 0 (first yakuza) and I am in love. The story is SO GOOD i feel like I’m playing a Netflix tv show. I thought the subtitles would bother me but it’s so immersive! New favourite series!! So happy I have so many more games to play!!

He's reviewing this game? Seems so out of his zone.
It takes around 2 weeks for him to make a review for a game (according to his released schedule)..that includes the props, skits and what not alongside his review.
Joel Rodriguez That's the point. He is reviewing a game franchise that is very underrated. Which excites me.

Not gonna watch the video because of spoilers. But this game is going to be a subjective 5 Stars for me even if it sucks. You should all buy it so we'll always get as much Yakuza love in the west as right now.
One of the greats
Pumped!
Quem tiver curioso dê uma olhada e ajude na divulgação..TRADUZIMOS TODA FRANQUIA em PT-BR!
i'm excited. i always wanted to get into Yakuza and since this is a prequel i think i'm gonna get it
Yakuza is back baby! im glad its a success

I want to play a Yakuza game before Yakuza 6 comes out. Is Yakuza 0 a good starting point?
MithunOnThe.Net yes it's a prequel
Awesome review as always! How long is the game?
20-30 hours
I think you can´t say style so many times in such a stylish manner in so many different styles, while keeping an original style
Will give this game a shot. Looks great.
So If I wanted to get into this series... would this be a good one to start with?
It is. I started with this one myself.
I've always been intreagued by this series, maybe it's time I jumped in and hunt these games down...
Since this will be dropping in price in a couple months, I look forward to getting my Yakuza on at a steep discount.
ben. i love u.
i now have the problem that i can't raise Majimas Heat during battle. It simply stays at lvl 1- First i thought it was because i raised the difficulty to hard but Kiryu's Heat is still capable of rising. Does anybody know why Majimas 'Heat isn't?
ICurITaISeverus upgrade majima's heat
You'd think that a Yakuza gangster would make enough money to buy a suit in their size, but the characters have always been going full 90's with their choice.
What are the ps4 pro benefits?
necropig The japanese version of the game has been out since march 2015, so no ps4 pro benefits unfortunately
gangster4208 wut :(
It runs at 1080p 60 FPS on basic PS4. I doubt the dev-team would bother patching in 4K support or other gimmicks for Pro, especially since they've long since moved on to another game and a brand new engine. No point in coming back.
Which is the best Yakuza game to release here in north america?
2, 5, or 0. All three are excellent.
Depends on tastes, 5 for example has TONS of content but the plot is kinda weak.
Legend has it if you are here early....
you will get FREE house wines and pickles DLC for the hostess mini game from BEN. :P
