You can say how much Xerneas is better overall with Fairy Type and good moves, but Yveltal with Oblivion Wing, Dark Pulse, Phantom Force and Fly/Substitute is a absolute MONSTER that steamrolls everything in it's path regardless of type advantages on the game. Yveltal trully incarnates the fantasy of a Pokémon representing Death itself, that thing looks menacing, has a ominous presence, trully killer moves and hits like .38 shot. Although not the best legendary, you can't deny that thing is made to kill.

Somehow I managed to luck my way into picking all the best versions simply based on personal preference of which box legendaries I thought looked cooler, so that’s pretty neat!
*As a Shield owner, I'm happy that I went with that version unknowingly which was better and simply basing my decision off of which Pokémon cover art looked better to me.*
I just get both of them since I had more than one console to use for trading. And for the Switch games, I still have both but one system so I use Pokemon Home to put the version exclusives in there, then pick them up in the other version. No trading necessary.

Actually, I chose "Black 2" and "X" over their counterparts and I had no regrets. With the former, I prefer Magmortar over Electivire and liked the easier access to Heracross (which I prefer over Pinsir), plus if you do want to dedicate the time to getting a non-Weak Armor Mandibuzz, she's great against three of the Unova Elite Four (even though I never used her myself). With the latter, I just chose mainly as I wanted to try out the mascot with the Fairy-typing, plus it had Houndoom (which I prefer over Manectric even though I like it too). I technically chose both versions in USUM but my "Ultra Sun" copy got corrupted in 2019 and while I miss it, I've been getting on well with "Ultra Moon". The third time I got only one version of a set though, I chose "Pokemon Shield" and its expansion pass. I wasn't expecting "Shield" to do so well here lol.

Its worth noting that gen 5s exclusive list is effectively a lot longer, because there are a ton of Pokémon that are “exclusive” to one game, but available in the other through a 5% chance encounter in shaking grass. That should absolutely make a difference.

You might see one every other screen if you’re lucky, then you might not even be able to get there if its deep within a patch of tall grass because gen V has a crazy high encounter rate for some reason, and only _then_ do you have a 5% chance of encountering a Pokemon that isn’t audino. It’s literally easier to just trade for the pokemon in question than it is to actually catch it. Yes, it’s _technically_ not exclusive, but its rare to the point that it _effectively_ is exclusive.

I always liked more the "right" version of the game from where it was presented but I regret my choices always since the other legendary is always cooler than the one i wanted and got (black,white2,Y,shield)but when i was a kid i was able to get both games at the end of the day so i was happy.
I usually go with the version where I like the exclusive Pokemon and the obtainable legendaries best. However for some games (since ORAS to be honest) I bought the other version later as well. Usually for the older games it was one of the main versions I liked more and then the improved 3rd edition, but they don't do that anymore.

Even though I grew up with Pokémon, my very first Pokémon Game was Pokemon Y when which was a birthday present from a senior girl in high school after I told her I was getting a New 3DS XL and never had a Pokemon game before. I'm glad it turned out to be Y because i just personally love Yveltal. When I later got into more pokemon games (both past ones and more recent titles) i thought of taking the one where the legendary can fly but i ended up changing my strategy and just picked the Red/Bright Versions From heart Gold onwards, meaning White, White 2, Y, OR, Sun and Ultra Sun. And I think that's the best way to go about it from Gen V-VII. (I never got myself a switch)

I do understand how Y won there, but as someone who never used any version exclusives other than xerneas when I played X, I think having a better legendary is more important than aromatisse being better than slurpuff because I would never have used either. if anyone asked me which gen 6 to get, I would always say X because xerneas is quite good and (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm pretty sure that charizard and mewtwo's mega evolutions are also game locked and, in my opinion, I'd rather have mega charizard x. it depends on how you play but I'd say that some Pokemon (like legendaries or generally good ones) should count more than slightly better Pokemon people probably won't use. Yveltal is also a decens pokémon, and his unice move makes it better. I think that Charizard Y is way better than x. Why? It has a higher special attack which makes him better in my opinion. There are more stronger fire special moves than physical. Secondly it has sunny day which makes him even better in offensive

actually you can get Galarian darumaka on route 8 on the second part of the route and the odds of finding one are the same as they are on route 10 (5% chance of a random encounter in the tall grass)

I like this list, and I appreciate that you were willing to put in all the work to make these decisions, but if I’m given the choice between 2 games post Gen 5, I will always choose the one with Mandibuzz, as it is my second favorite Pokémon. Don't forget about Clawitzer's ability: Mega Launcher. It can have STAB with any "pulse" or "sphere" move. Water Pulse totals to 135 power, Aura Sphere totals to 120 power, Dark Pulse totals to 120 power, and Dragon Pulse totals to 128 power. Combined, these four attacks can be super effective against TEN TYPES. Dragalge is good, but I've used Clawitzer before and it's amazingly good.
Overlook for Butterfree. It's one of the best setup, catching pokemon, and it evolves really fast. It's got like a 98% chance to hit with all status effects including sleep. Don't think it can burn though, but still for catching almost nothing is better. Also I think it was an oversight not going over post game stuff for Sword/Shield and Sun/Moon games because more of those games is post game than the main story is. Which is kind of ridiculous. xD
These considerations are Main Story Based, not Competitive Based; The only Main Story that is Post-Game for Both SS and SM is 1 single side story/clean-up, everything else is: Breeding, Battling, Competitive or Catching/Pokedex.....also you can do the SS DLC BEFORE the 1st Gym, so no, DLC is not Post-Game.
I concur if you are someone who catches throughout the playthrough rather than just speedrunning through everything then Butterfree is dope. You generally don't need every single slot in your party for the combat portions of the playthrough so having a good catcher to reduce backtracking is quite nice. However, the only reason I concur is because of the playthrough stipulation. Post game you can have some really insane catchers and Butterfree's low stats become a lot more apparent.
Id like to point out in sword and shield you could luck out and find certain pokemon that dont appear in the games normally in max raid battles. Stumbled upon a shiny sirfetchd in my shield. I still agree that shield was the obvious choice over sword. Weirdly if you just include zacian and zamazenta, zamazenta is an insane tank ive found.
Unpopular opinion in this reply but I like sword simply coz of Zacian, 2 sword dances plus intrepid sword equals death to all who stand before me, and I just simply prefer offense over defense

I always liked more the "right" version of the game from where it was presented but I regret my choices always since the other legendary is always cooler than the one i wanted and got (black,white2,Y,shield)but when i was a kid i was able to get both games at the end of the day so i was happy.
valid this is what i do, although i do enjoy the legendaries more for these games
I usually go with the version where I like the exclusive Pokemon and the obtainable legendaries best. However for some games (since ORAS to be honest) I bought the other version later as well. Usually for the older games it was one of the main versions I liked more and then the improved 3rd edition, but they don't do that anymore.

Even though I grew up with Pokémon, my very first Pokémon Game was Pokemon Y when which was a birthday present from a senior girl in high school after I told her I was getting a New 3DS XL and never had a Pokemon game before.
I'm glad it turned out to be Y because i just personally love Yveltal. When I later got into more pokemon games (both past ones and more recent titles) i thought of taking the one where the legendary can fly but i ended up changing my strategy and just picked the Red/Bright Versions From heart Gold onwards, meaning White, White 2, Y, OR, Sun and Ultra Sun. And I think that's the best way to go about it from Gen V-VII.

The part about super effective coverage against Steven should be a point to Kyogre, it has coverage against 5 of the 6, all of them if you teach it earthquake, which will be really strong as after primal reversion it has 150 base attack

I do understand how Y won there, but as someone who never used any version exclusives other than xerneas when I played X, I think having a better legendary is more important than aromatisse being better than slurpuff because I would never have used either. if anyone asked me which gen 6 to get, I would always say X because xerneas is quite good and (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm pretty sure that charizard and mewtwo's mega evolutions are also game locked and, in my opinion, I'd rather have mega charizard x. it depends on how you play but I'd say that some Pokemon (like legendaries or generally good ones) should count more than slightly better Pokemon people probably won't use.

I think that Charizard Y is way better than x. Why? It has a higher special attack which makes him better in my opinion. There are more stronger fire special moves than physical. Secondly it has sunny day which makes him even better in offensive

I personally chose Y back in the day. I always liked Yveltal and I really didn't care that Xerneas would absolutely demolish Yveltal. Shiny Yveltal is also one of my favorite shines sooo yeah. Mega Mewtwo Y was also a selling point for me.

actually you can get Galarian darumaka on route 8 on the second part of the route and the odds of finding one are the same as they are on route 10 (5% chance of a random encounter in the tall grass)

The result wouldn't change, but I just want to point out Competitive on Gothitelle didn't exist until Gen VI. Mostly because the ability Competitive at all didn't exist before gen VI.
I like this list, and I appreciate that you were willing to put in all the work to make these decisions, but if I’m given the choice between 2 games post Gen 5, I will always choose the one with Mandibuzz, as it is my second favorite Pokémon. Luckily for me, I don’t have to worry about my number 1 favorite, Chandelure, being unobtainable.

Don't forget about Clawitzer's ability: Mega Launcher. It can have STAB with any "pulse" or "sphere" move. Water Pulse totals to 135 power, Aura Sphere totals to 120 power, Dark Pulse totals to 120 power, and Dragon Pulse totals to 128 power. Combined, these four attacks can be super effective against TEN TYPES. Dragalge is good, but I've used Clawitzer before and it's amazingly good.

Overlook for Butterfree. It's one of the best setup, catching pokemon, and it evolves really fast. It's got like a 98% chance to hit with all status effects including sleep. Don't think it can burn though, but still for catching almost nothing is better.
Also I think it was an oversight not going over post game stuff for Sword/Shield and Sun/Moon games because more of those games is post game than the main story is. Which is kind of ridiculous. xD
These considerations are Main Story Based, not Competitive Based; The only Main Story that is Post-Game for Both SS and SM is 1 single side story/clean-up, everything else is: Breeding, Battling, Competitive or Catching/Pokedex.....also you can do the SS DLC BEFORE the 1st Gym, so no, DLC is not Post-Game.
I concur if you are someone who catches throughout the playthrough rather than just speedrunning through everything then Butterfree is dope. You generally don't need every single slot in your party for the combat portions of the playthrough so having a good catcher to reduce backtracking is quite nice.
However, the only reason I concur is because of the playthrough stipulation. Post game you can have some really insane catchers and Butterfree's low stats become a lot more apparent.

Id like to point out in sword and shield you could luck out and find certain pokemon that dont appear in the games normally in max raid battles. Stumbled upon a shiny sirfetchd in my shield. I still agree that shield was the obvious choice over sword. Weirdly if you just include zacian and zamazenta, zamazenta is an insane tank ive found.
