I don’t eat my gouache anymore because it, unsurprisingly, tastes bad.
yeah but how do we know it REALLY tastes bad tho/j 🤨📸
_Anymore...?_
I’m sorry what-
My poor cat like to eat gouache, and once end up in the vet for that 😵 they look like pudin or candy but the smell is really bad

As someone who has also struggled with gouache, I found out that gouache in a tube works better for me. It's a little easier for me to control the water to paint ratio when I can just squeeze out what I need instead of scooping it out. They're very cute, but jelly cup gouache and I just weren't meant to be 😔
Yes yes yes. I found this too.
I'll finish my gouache pots but I'll be going tubes when I need to replace colours.
glad to see this is the top comment because it's the right answer. Windsor Newton is probably going to be the most user friendly to start with, but Arteza is pretty alright. James Gurney does a lot of videos on using gouache on his youtube channel. He's also kind of a goof in a good way.
I like how your videos are 95% art and 5% spiderman reference
Ive never seen anyone else eat popcorn with chopsticks. I feel seen
It's so practical ✨
I´ve been using chopsticks to eat most snacks for a really long time now and I love it! My hands don´t get dirty that way🥰
there is acylic gouache
it's pretty neat to use and the results are really pretty
(plus you can use gouache and acrylics together if it's the right kind to make the paing waterproof but also kind of matte)
Whatever you do in the future I hope you'll have fun while doing it
your art is lovely and you should be proud of how far you've come already with a medium that you aren't too well aquainted with
I love how you touched the issue with employment and income. I would love to say fuck it and dedicate my entire time to art, and I know a lot of people would like to, too. BUT we also have to eat and some of us are literally unable to get an insurance so 😐
Right? It's a huge problem for self-employed creatives ;; You wanna be completely dedicated to your craft and not be so focused on the money part, but you also have to provide for yourself if you want to dedicate enough time to creating. Tis indeed a conundrum 🎻
I see new pricky alpaca video I click
Ah a man of culture i see...
SAME
Relatable
glad u rekindled ur relationship with gouache - it was a romantic subplot that I always thought had a lot more potential ❤
The writers room decided gouache would be a really good on and off romantic lead
Yaknow, for the ✨drama✨
@@PricklyAlpaca I can't wait for the "we were on a break!" storyline
Gosh thank you so much for talking so openly about art with depression and/or depression.. That is SO IMPORTANT to hear and spread to the world ! + Your artwork and art journey is really cool thanks for sharing it !
The gouache turned out really cool! Can't wait to see more pieces like this (+ my birthday is October 10th and as another spooky season Libra, the witchy content of yours is some of my favourite
A really great way around the streakiness of watered down acrylic is to switch to acrylic-gouache! It’s something I discovered recently and don’t have much practice with but it sounds like a great solution for what you’re looking for :)
I guess it’s kinda like a mix between the two, it’s gouache but it’s not water soluble once dry and seems smoother then acrylic at first. I recommend the Holbein acrylic gouache (it’s on Amazon)
Anyway - this piece is so awesome!
Personally I am shit at guashe but I'm excited to see what you do with it!!
I had no idea they had a podcast 😭 very much missing Jenna..so thank you for that wonderful insight!
You did absolutely wonderfully with your approach this time around! Laying a thin base and then slowly building up the “thickness” of each added layer is the easiest way to use gouache. I personally have a hard time with acrylics because they dry so fast, and also use a very watery approach when layering and blending! In high school I struggled very badly with a gouache project, not knowing the thin-thick approach, but when I retried it a couple years ago I fell in love. It most definitely takes time to learn, I still make mistakes with my techniques (not that I have a very technical approach, I kinda just go for it) but I prefer gouache over any other medium now. I would love to see you continue your journey with gouache, it most definitely complements your art style and the approach you use when painting!
Also I second that gouache from a tube works best for me as well! Much easier to control the water to paint consistency.
I love the combination of chaos and aesthetics. It feels very you!
I was also born in the late 90s (99 to be exact) and in October!!! I was dressed up as a blue m&m my first halloween x3
Love seeing you explore mediums like this, as I myself primarily work in watercolor. Funnily enough, I actually hated working in watercolor for the longest time, but now it's my favorite medium!

This is the kind of content I consume 😎
I've played Dislyte and found it really fun, loved the character designs and story, and your artwork turned out fantastic!
That opening made me tear up. Absolutely stunning. One of the most scenes of all time.
Pinapple on pizza is god tier on BBQ pizza, it’s probably my third favourite pizza after garlic bread pizza and pesto pizza
I have to say, your videos and your personality are very fun to watch lol. So much of your creation process feels relatable~!
Im so bad with gouche but seeing u work with that medium and it lookd so beautiful! I feel so inspired to paint with gouche rn
I mix a lot of water with my acrylics as well, not always but often to the point that it’s more like watercolor- but I feel like it’s more vibrant than water color and has a nice finish/ not as powdery, and I like being able to make changes and have control which the acrylics let me do. Probably bc that’s they paint I have the most experience with- but I’ve never used gouache aside from adding white highlights to watercolor. So this was informative! Thank you!
An artist friend of mine has a motto: "Keep doing bad art, 'cause the bad art makes you better at the good art!" Which is not to say that this is bad art, not at all. It's beautiful.
The intro is the first romantic story that has ever really interested me.
And the drawing turned out cool, I like the girl's wings.
We love an artist that grows and progresses ✨✨ it looks amazing the layers are great
Mate there's a lot of fun and excellent camera stuff going on here, very A+. I find gouache super frustrating but that's kind of what appeals lol. Like, if I can master this, literally I will be unstoppable.
Also i agree with a few others, maybe give acrylic gouache a try, maybe it can bridge the gap. it's good, but tbh I find it's less opaque. I have a bunch of matter acrylic paint and it's basically the same. But it's not entirely comparable to gouache in technique, it's just an opaque, matte acrylic ime.
On the topic of acrylic and water, if you add acrylic flow to water to water it down/help to blend it, it will really help with the streaking. It helps the acrylics keep their bond rather than bunch up due to just straight water being added to the paint.
Okay, I'm now using those clips of you sitting as reference photos, they were so perf!!
that outfit is absolutely ✨gorgeous ✨
Oh my gosh thank you SO much for answering my question!!! I'll be sure to also be working on my time management skills! I actually have a HUGE deadline for myself right now and am trying to fill an ENTIRE building up with concept art for a fantasy novel I'm helping to write as well as short stories and a parody game that the author is working on. (God bless my art teacher for letting me rent out the building for free) But maybe after that project/surprise party is done, I'll get an Instagram to motivate myself to finish sketches and short doodles more.
Thank you so much again! (Also how are those Drag Qween birds of paradise designs coming~? JK do whatever you want with your time lol! I was just excited when you responded to that idea)
The piece came out amazing! Great job and have a blessed day!
Fine, I will get dislyte, you make the characters look nice 😮💨
I’m so glad this is a video, I saw it first on Instagram and it’s just AMAZING ✨

Watching you do anything really gets the creative juices going,,, I really love how your piece turned out and I love watching artists try gouache because it's actually my favorite to paint with! As always,
thanks for sharing your journey through art with us,
have a good weekend

and yeehaw
Your birthday is 5 days after mine. Your style is so pretty and my day always gets a bit better when you post.
I’ve been waiting to see the Dislyte characters in your art style! The way you paint with gouache is so nice. I can’t explain but you really do an amazing job at expressing the capability of gouache with the pretty colors and textures ❤️❤️
I want to try gouache so bad and your drawing inspired me to finally try them !!
Yooo that's great! I hope it goes well for you 💕
fancy color goo
The "I see someone else make something and I want to make it too" vibe is something I mentioned in another one of your videos. Because I want to make literally everything you make or draw. All of it. In human size and doll size. Maybe even in teeny tiny mini size.
I loved this video in every way. It was great to see how you worked up the paint shades and details. I hope that you might do a paint with me real time gouache tutorial.
gouache took me so long to figure out how to use, but I love the way that it looks when done properly.
Everyone who wrestles with gouache is a gorgeous person change my mind
This round two of gouache is very pretty! I’m getting such a jewelled sky aesthetic feeling looking at it, it’s really that good for your second time tackling it. I’ve never actually tried gouache but I might be considering it once I go through a good chunk of my art supplies when I get them from my hometown next week.
Also idk if it would help anyone here since everyone’s got a different way for how they time manage, but personally I use an app called Focus Keeper where you can customize how much time you want to focus on your task, automatically it gives you 25 minutes and when it’s up it automatically goes to 5 minute breaks for each time you finish. Idk just thought to share that if anyone needs it for school, uni, or for their art making.
Those transitions 🤌🤌🤌
Thank you for the intro, it was very entertaining 😂 also I think the painting is pretty ✨
Firstly, I'd recommend tube gouache over pan gouache and also I'd recommend trying more paddle shaped brushed rather than the finer line shaped ones you're using now. Should help with the streakiness issues. Keep up the awesome work :)
YASSSSSS! TIME TO DRAW
I had so much fun watching this video!!! Love you Kira❤🌹
Just downloaded dislyte!! I sadly couldn’t use ur link cuz I’m in ios but I’m looking forward to playing! Really cool piece, I can relate to the artblock thing lol
love this video!! the detail and layers you got with the gouache are gorgeous, and you've captured the differing textures of hair/the metallic guitar/the trousers/FUR so well!
I'm LIVING for that intro 😂😍
That was very dramatic and I LOVE IT
This video was so cool! I love your rambly videos and I have no idea why you think the painting is only "ok." Also, yes I would ABSOLUTELY be interested on supporting you on Patreon!
Ok but your art inspires me so much always 🤲 everytime I watch any of your videos I suddenly have the URGE TO DRAW NOW. You're my biggest inspiration tbh and thank u very much for drawing 🤲🤌
Nicely done
I would highly recommend acrylic gouache for you, it is the perfect blend between the aspects of acrylic paint (like its opacity) and gouache (like the matte consistency).
I had pretty similar problems when using normal gouache, with my style being more illustrative and working with a digital art monkey brain, so when I started using acrylic gouache I felt like it functioned better for that form of layering, flat colour blocking and rendering that you also use. There is a lot of people who work with gouache who use acrylic gouache for a more illustrative style, its probably the closest traditional medium that can achieve the same look as a digital painting so... i'd recommend checking it out. The Holbein Acrylic Gouache tubes are really good btw ;)
Omggg I say "I miss my friends" and my partner knows I mean i miss the J&J podcast. 2 legends
Gouache looks like a medium that requires a skill ceiling to even set up; it's definitely cool to see you take another swing at it.
Also, I would like to take a moment to appreciate all of your nature/establishing shots from around your home. The rain was especially beautiful and the shots break up the video really well.
Best of luck on the financial front. It's bonkers but you are super skilled. Would love to pitch some money at you on Patreon. 👍
The INTRO 😍 I love this whole video
Me who has been using Gouache for a year: yes, I am very good at painting with Gouache.
Prickly Alpaca who hasn't uesd it in a long time: Paints a masterpiece, ten times better than anything I could make.
Me:🥺
I really love holbeins acryla gouache, I really am not a fan of watercolor but love the matte look of gouache while acrylics can have a kind of "plastic sheen" to them!! Acryla gouache is still scary too me but I do like acryla gouache a lot :)
5:08 Don't think that you watching that Laovaan tutorial went unnoticed... you legend.👌😎
the sitcom intro is immaculate
I wish I knew you in real life😭😭you seem like you would be an excellent friend💕💕💕amazing art as always!!
Aaaaa I love your painting! I can see so much improvement
I've never used gouache before but you make it look so fun to use!!
Looks great!
Ah yes, if Spider-Man can do it, you can too💜
oh hey you uploaded this on my birthday! whoot whoot! also i totally relate to loving food and cheese. there are very few things in this world i wont eat and wont enjoy and its been really fun! especially since my fiance and his family moved here from the philippines and they love having my try new dishes! kare kare and garlic fried rice are my favorite so far. ugh my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Ooo that sounds delicious 🥺 I'm hungry now too! lol
Happy birthday btw! I hope you have a wonderful day 💕
Ty for all the cool tips and tricks 😎
This intro gave me life
fancy paint
It's so weird to find out that the RUclipsr you've been watching is not only the same age as you, but also has a birthday not far from yours??? I'm also turning 24, on the 12th of October. Nice to meet a fellow disaster libra. 💜 (Sidenote, I also graduated in May and have had the luxury of being able to take a break after a grueling final semester.)
Beautiful. :D
I was so happy to see you use chopsticks to eat popcorn because I do that all the time! 😱
The color palette is very pleasing to my crow brain (I'm sure it's similar to your magpie)
Q&A is a chef 👨🍳 👌 kiss as always. Your options are alsways full of insight. Hearing you thoughts are ao real amd raw which is nice. Jf you do a patron pleass make aome vidsoes about that journey. Love love this video 📹

😳
Ye my question got put in. Nice.
Okay so I have yet to watch the video but the way I just started playing Dislyte and had to double take when I saw Brynn in the thumbnail like 👀👀👀
just bought the himi miya guoache, and yeah even I'm starting to rage over it- I used winsor and newton paint and that worked out fine and the whole "Oh if you use watercolour/acryllic you'll love this!" lies. The worst of both worlds, its a new way of painting and you have to approach it completely new and start over. But yeah its great seeing videos like this to see what I'm doing wrong and learn along with you.
when you said "What my favorite dinosaur is" I literally almost shouted 'Barney'
YAAAAAAAS!!! Would love to support you on Patreon~~~ Support a few other artists on there and its very nice platform to customize to whatever you need and the ability to pause things if you need to seems to be a really nice thing to use if you feel like you need a break~
i also had the same issue with gouache like you mentioned.... hated it so i might try it again. i both love and hate watercolor, love acrylics so gouache might just need a lil more practice.
Not sure if I count as a youth but Elvis is very cool! Maybe you could draw Austin Butler in a sketchbook session?
5:16 "Oh yea no, I got a middle back thing too"
we all telephoned here and I love it
A lot of what you said about art block and burn out spoke to me, thank you ❤️ Omg your Jenna & Julien comment, I FEEL that so hard! (But for me it’s HasanAbi & Vaush.) And I’m thinking of incorporating ginger into my hair this upcoming season too 🧡
I'm not an expert, but if you want to use normal acrylics like watercolor, I'm pretty sure you'll have a much easier go of it if you dilute the paint with an acrylic matt medium, rather than water.
Called it!
Bruh I'm in a constant state of art block I'll make a drawing like once a month 😄
love this video and i’d gladly pay for a patreon!!
I'm gonna be honest, my fav part of the vid was eating the popcorn with chop sticks
Yep valkyries from norse, Anubis from egyptian
you should totally sell this as a print
I too am enemies with gouache but then again I’m enemies with any art medium I pick up
Never too late for an enemies to lovers arc with your art nemesis
*Kira tiktok transitioning before tiktok even tiktoked*
19:17 to get around this problem I post both art and gaming videos, that way I can still post once a week without having to rush my art too much because I can just film a Minecraft video instead.
Yeah traditional gouache or acrylic gouache might be more your type
When u read out my name i was honestly so surprised because I don't even remember asking a question. Thank you! I love cheese! (PS I don't even know how to pronounce my name its not actually my name so your all Good :)
Gouache? No. Forbidden pudding. ✔
