I love the idea of them picking up a stowaway from somewhere and the stowaway endearing themselves to the crew. Like it’s this girl somewhere between 18 and 24 who’s innocent but not naive, and she hears about their curse and is all like “what can I do to help?” And their like “that’s cute kid, let’s get you back to dry land.” And that’s their whole arc together.
Imagining these characters moving in an environment is so funny too me. The angler character would have such a light sounding jingle while the saw shark is stomping around. OMG and imagine what their crew would look like
i love the saw shark and angler fish designs!!!! aaaaa the saw shark being wrath is so funny as well bc it's giving "if everyone thinks of me as brash and cruel, then why not be just that?" like instead of proving them wrong, she proves them right, which only causes her demise :) idk maybe it caught up to her or something (also the 7 deadly sins concept is really nice please please please continue this (only if you want to ofc))
Names for the Pirates: Lion's Mane Jellyfish: Any name meaning "Lion" like Leona or Aria. Japanese Spider Crab: Kani, which is Japanese for "Crab". Sawfish Shark: Sawyer, it's actually a gender-neutral name & a term used for someone who cuts wood, so like a woodsman. Could also provide for a headcanon in which she widdles figurines out of wood in order to meditate. Angler Fish: Esca, which is Latin for "Bait" & I think it's also the name of that lightbulb-like antenna. Also, I think you might've inspired me to do a similar thing for May 2048 but with sea creatures/monsters from Subnautica!
One thing I also really like about your artstyle is that you include different body types and not just the typical hyper slim and curvey girl. Like sometimes, the built of your character is more athletic, muscular, bulky, or a bit thicker, with the weight center more lower, or very skinny etc. I love that.
2:23 may you PLEASE do a tutorial on how you draw these character design thumbnails and how you come up with them!?They’re absolutely beautiful and they’re not even the finished products.
Someone else mentioned Sawyer as a nice gender-neutral name for the saw shark pirate, and Esca for the anglerfish, and I agree! I think "Kai" for the Japanese spider crab (貝 is kanji for shellfish). I also keep thinking about in Inuyasha, Naraku's human name "Onigumo" means "Demon Spider" and I feel like that would be a fitting last name. Saw Shark gives me major 'Black Sails' Anne Bonnie vibes, so maybe she turn to piracy to escape her life "as a woman" (i.e. arrange marriage, abusive husband, etc.) Maybe she used to run with a different pirate crew, disguised as a man, and channeled all her pent up rage from her old life and trauma into her ferocious pirate persona. Eventually, she got even too manic for her old crew to handle and they marooned her. The sea actually saves her life with the curse, which is why she's the most transformed of this crew, but the lesson she has yet to learn is to let go of her past and realize that she has made a new life for herself. If the jellyfish pirate also has a dark past, maybe Sawyer needs to learn how to be more gentle from her and embrace the new lives they've made. I imagine these two were the first ones to come together, and act as de facto leaders of their crew. I think the anglerfish would be like an assassin. But she took the least convincing to be part of the crew. I think, if anything, she's collected the most souls and was on her own for the longest; but the sea has not released her from the curse because she's become gluttonous on human souls now as well. Spider Crab took the longest convincing to actually join the crew and is the loner type. She becomes a mercenary, joining the crew when it suits her, and slowly spends more and more time with the crew on raids, eventually permanently joining their band.
Also, I think the jellyfish girl's sin is probably pride, a pleasure from their own achievements they closely associated to or possessions they admire the most, and pride is considered to be the mother of sins, so I think that would be a good fit.
I once had an OC that was a siren who joined a crew of pirates, halfway because she was kidnapped and halfway because she didn't want to lure men to their deaths just because. Eventually she starts finding out which crews they have rivalries with and starts anonymously making "treasure maps" that actually lead back to where she came from, so they get caught by sirens instead. Just kinda reminded me of this.
For anyone afraid of the sea or interested: there is nothing down the Mariana Trench and other not explored zones of the oceans. That's why we don't explore them, because there is no life there, just some freezing water and some rocks. No Megalodons, no dinosaurs, no sea monsters, just more water (they would need food to survive and there is none there). When new fishes are discovered nowadays, it's in areas we have already explored. I am myself a big Nessy fan, but I can tell you, if something this big existed, we would know about it already (yes, I am heartbroken about Nessy being not real, we don't talk about it)
it's not like there's nothing there I feel like you are underselling the deep sea snailfish and the unusually large amphipods (unusually large here meaning 5 centimeters)
something cool I noticed that Sawshark and Anglerfish have more fish-like features than Lionsmane and Spider Crab. Maybe those two have been cursed longer than the other two
I absolutely love the Japanese Spider Crab design! Like the sharpness of it all is just 👌 I also love the angler fish and the pearls are just gorgeous, but honestly all of the designs just shine and are so unique
I absolutely adore your art style! The fact that you can take these creatures that make my heart stop from fear, and make them into people who make my heart stop because I’m flustered is incredible!!!
I adore the spider grabs weapons! Absolutely genius! All the thought you put into this and the creative ideas, would’ve never thought of such incredible ideas!!!
I like the casualness of the voice overs, all of the colors are so pretty and the designs are so cohesive together I love it!! I feel like the jellyfish girl would be the most vibrant in personality and try to bring the group together and the ex-navy officer tries to boss everyone around, but eventually all become really close, also I don't know why but I feel like the shark pirate would be named Tessa
These are all gorgeous as usual! I especially like the crab girl; the colour pallet, the weapons just everything about her is amazing and the blue eyes were the cherry on top.
Yo, the anglerfish characters name has GOT to be Angelica. Similar start to the name, she's got a lot of flowy white and pearls, I think it fits really well.
I like the angler fish girl being very delicate and attractive on the top and heavily armored on the legs because its just like how the anglerfish draws fish in, then attacks
25:57 through another artist, who also does character design, she did her research and found out that gluttony isn’t technically the act of over eating. It’s the act of over indulging yourself in multiple things. And and fun fact, sloth is the act of not caring about anything at all @loves art23- she’s a RUclipsr, who does character redesigned that gets in depth into their concept and research concept
The jellyfish looks really elegant and the spider crab is excited extremely well. I love the saw shark design! The blue, red and grey color scheme looks super cool! OMG THE ANGLER FISH !!! Very cool altogether!
A little correction on punk subculture; it didn't start with modified school uniforms, it started with the disgruntled UK and US working class suffering during economic turndown during the 60s into the 70s. It was anti-establishment, anti-military and all about human rights, self expression, sustainability, DIY and reuse until disintegration (that's where the duct tape and safety pins came in).
I wasn't really referring to the US/ UK punk scene. I probably didn't explain myself properly and I could be wrong because I don't know a ton about the Japanese punk movement, but I was thinking more along the lines of "Sukebans" and Japanese delinquent/ "punk" culture of the 70s and 80s. This was more of a visual reference than anything else, but that's what I meant by people customizing their uniforms.
I love these designs! I’m also glad you went with wrath instead of gluttony for the saw shark pirate because it fits her really well. Despite the stereotypes, sharks don’t attack out of anger; they’re just looking for food, and they have bad depth perception. I think the wrath motivation gives her some great contrast, and fits the punk aesthetic you kinda gave her! ❤
*LADY PIRATES* Honestly all of the designs are so cool, especially the angler fish, she's so spooky and pretty and I'm a total sucker for masked characters ^^
I just have been loving all your character designs. The characters you make are so ✨extra ✨ in the best of ways! It's just so calming, fun and cool to see you add all the frills, detailing and extra elements! It's just so satisfying. Plus your delightful visual humour with anime and assless cowboy pants are just fantastic and just make everything so much better :D xD
this is absolutely amAZING. I've been watching your character design videos for quite some time now and the idea of turning *whatever* into a character is absolutely my cup of creativity. but honestly some of the more recent character design series were just not speaking to me as much as the older ones, like sky magical girls or the four elements. with these fishy pirate characters I feel the series is back on track with their maybe a bit simpler colour palettes, more readable silhouettes, just the right amount of contrasts and details, visual consistency of the four characters and other hard-to-describe aesthetics qualities which my brain considers visually pleasing. thanks again for sharing these characters and their design process, so cool and inspiring!
I feel like a blanket octopus as a pirate lady would have been AMAZING. The blanket octopus has such nice colors and it would be cool to see how you would’ve turned it into a human.
For characters based on animals, I often kind of like stealing bits of the scientific names for them. So for the Lions mane (Cyanea Capillata) maybe Cyanea or Cyane, the Japanese spider crab (Macrocheira kaempferi) could be Cheira or Kae, or we could use one of the older names for the species and go with Maja. The sawshark could be one of a couple different species from the order Pristiophoriformes, so we could go with Prist or Ophori or Plio from one of the genera. There are a lot of species of Anglerfish (order Lophiiformes), so lots of options, but I kind of think Lophi is fine.
wow, these are so good !!! they are all amazing, i cant pick a favourite. as a guy i do wish you added at least one male pirate lol. so i made my own--a lil tiger puppy shark boy and a spooky whale shark captain with star motifs. i always find it fun to draw along with you and see how different the individual interprets things creatively.
I did a similar thing for my arachnophobia! Seeing the positive effect that Rui from demon slayer (spider boi) had on me i tryed to design my own spider themed oc, and now i have him and i love him, but i wanted to put more correct "fun facts" about spiders in his design but i'm too scared to serch for references ;-;
Lion's Mane JellyFish: Aslan/Ellis (Meaning Lion) with their possible last name being Gulliver the french word for gluttony Japanese spider crab: Kanimi (Meaning Crab/ Ocean depending on the kanji used) with the last name: Neji (meaning greed) and possible nicknames being Jorogumo (spider yokai) or Tsuchigumo (spider god) Sawfish shark: Mako (meaning shark but it also means sincerity which can possibly be a plot point to show that she’s nicer than what people assume and despite her appearance is just a big softie) With a possible last name being Alcmene (meaning Strength/ Wrath) Angler Fish: Walton (a synonym for angler fish) Last name being Tempes (Meaning Gluttony) I absolutely love all of your characters and would love to do a similar art challenge for myself!!
Loved this video!! Female villains are ✨ the best ✨ Your drawing videos always inspire me to draw and design something myself! Also i don't mind the longer, unscripted voiceovers, might prefer them actually :D
These are awesome! I’d love to see you make the pirates they would be trying to catch the souls of. Maybe you could base those on the most common location of these female pirates, and make them whatever you imagine to be the typical captain of a pirate ship to look like from that region. Or you could base them off of the sea that these creatures live in!
Hey you should really look into cute sea creatures! Have you seen the dumbo octopus? AND THE SEA BUNNIES?! THEY'RE SO CUTEEE AHHH would you be interested to make "cute" sea creatures into characters?
I know this video is so old but girl I am right there with you re: the ocean. That stuffs scary!! It was so fun playing the game DREDGE and getting scared more by the completely benign aesthetic whales than the actual monsters 😅
I think my personal fave out of these ones has got to be the crab one, I'm a slut for nice shades of red and I looove how the coat tails with the leggies look
(Lion Mane Jellyfish)Jeena Leonis - Sin Pride (she's giving me Mafia boss, she is the captain, she is everyone momma) (Spider Crab)Arianna Kane - Sin Greed (Arachni Aranis Arianna, and idk Kane is batman's mother last name, so she is mysterious and dark like bat boi) (Saw Shark)Sierra Blade - Sin Wrath (Sierra remember me of Serra that is saw translation and Blade... you know why but the Vampire hunter from marvel too, Both would be well-skilled Killers) (Angler fish) Angel P. Fisher - Sin Lust (sooo, Her sin is Lust because their Lightbulb attract others, SEDUCE others, and Her name is all a trick, she Wants you to think she is a Angel but, the "P" is for "perigo" A translation for Danger but she will say is for Pearl or Perla)
The back story that could work for Jellyfish is that she could have a similar situation I forgot his name. Where she grew up in a pirate life but, got married to an aristocrat and, couldn't give up her lifestyle and so abandoned her family.
I recently read the book Treasure Island a little while ago because I got really into the 1988 Soviet cartoon adaptation (the one with the walking meme), which is the novel that really cemented a lot of the pirate tropes in pop culture, so I guess I’m in a bit of a pirate phase. Pirates in ye olden days would get syphilis, hold up ports to get medicine for said syphilis, and had more rum in their veins than blood, but in fiction it’s always the coolest thing ever.
I adore the tangents so much, please don't stop! I love hearing your chaotic train of thought that somehow makes complete sense. Watched this and your last video to my bff as I was watching her play the Yu-Gi-Oh app game while we laid on the floor playing with her cat which I feel like fits your channels energy so much. love what you do
I love these designs ^^! It makes me tempted to draw the more water/oceanic zodiac designs I got brewing as seafarers [ though god/goddess won cause honestly your videos on turning things into goddesses won me over^^] These are so beautiful ^^, you are amazing!
Just saying, the time period of cowboys and pirates very much overlap so yeah, the lion’s mane jellyfish can have some yeehaw in her yargh pirate captain girlwin design. (Along with samurai, so yeah you can have a pirate, cowboy, AND a samurai be acquaintances or even friends! :} )
I LOVE THE OCEAN THIS IS SO EPIC Ok idk if you want to do this again but I'm going to compile a list of marine animals I'd like to see as pirates :))) oarfish lionfish chain catshark coelacanth sea urchin giant clam sea angel rockfish saltwater crocodile
I think a good introduction would for the angler fish chick would be in her chamber and a mysterious trader comes in will a freshly caught super rare cute sea creature. They explain how well it tastes and how they’ve only seen two in their lifetime. How her eating it could make them go extinct. She says whatever and goes to grab it and the trader pulls away and asks her to sign a payment contract first.. the contracts ends up being for her soul and the mysterious trader ends up being the soulbearer of the sea, coming to punish her for her gluttony
❤❤❤ this screams of sapphic undertones. It’s perfect.
By the end they are all pinning so hard and the land girl is oblivious.
NOW HEAR THIS
a child that they are forced to babysit and they know nothing about children
@@jupitersaylor7999 That's my favorite kind of story and I don't know why.

oh yeah that's a cool idea
HOW TF U ALWAYS MAKE THE HOTTEST CHARACTERS??? Be still, my heart
XD
Yes indeed ! The first and third one especially, dang.
Always so hot lol
Names for the Pirates:
Lion's Mane Jellyfish: Any name meaning "Lion" like Leona or Aria.

I like Leona for the jellyfish girl.
I love these!
Not me saying the names in a pirate accent😁😂😅😓😲
😂😂I think you mean she wittles/carves figurines. It is a common misspelling.
I love the names. 🥰🥰
I was just looking at art of jellyfish as stained glass and jewels and now this?! idk what my phone is trying to tell me but I like it 😂💜
I think it’s telling you to embrace the jellyfish aesthetic
*in WWE voice * IIIIIIIIIITS SIREN TIME!!!

I really like the longer style rambley voiceovers!!! They really inspire me to do something creative :)
Same ! Listening to Kira rambling on about her thought process and design details is so inspiring !
2:23 may you PLEASE do a tutorial on how you draw these character design thumbnails and how you come up with them!?They’re absolutely beautiful and they’re not even the finished products.
Would love to see you draw mermaids/mermen sometime!! silicone mermaid tails are huge inspo
For Mermay perhaps?
@@gratefulmama618 that’s genius!
Yeah! Definitely! I love this idea!
i love the unscripted voiceovers. tangents are always welcome and relevant in my book

I feel like you are underselling the deep sea snailfish and the unusually large amphipods (unusually large here meaning 5 centimeters)
I love the spooky sea creatures so I see this as an absolute win
I love all four sea characters.💖
The fact that you pull from so many references from so many places, periods, and media types is so inspiring and interesting.

The Rachel Maksy Reference *chef's kiss*
Imagine all the clothes they wear just morphs into the creature's aspects without them wanting them to.
The crab one is my fave!
i fucking love love love the white highlights you throw on in the end! really ties it all together

Lion's Mane JellyFish: Aslan/Ellis (Meaning Lion) with their possible last name being Gulliver the french word for gluttony
Japanese spider crab: Kanimi (Meaning Crab/ Ocean depending on the kanji used) with the last name: Neji (meaning greed) and possible nicknames being Jorogumo (spider yokai) or Tsuchigumo (spider god)
Sawfish shark: Mako (meaning shark but it also means sincerity which can possibly be a plot point to show that she’s nicer than what people assume and despite her appearance is just a big softie) With a possible last name being Alcmene (meaning Strength/ Wrath)
Angler Fish: Walton (a synonym for angler fish) Last name being Tempes (Meaning Gluttony)
I absolutely love all of your characters and would love to do a similar art challenge for myself!!
Angler fish is giving me Jane Doe vibes from “Ride the cyclone” and reminds me of the song she sings as well.
gosh if you made an art book damn I'd love that

your art inspires me so much... i've improved so much just from watching your process
these are basically all of my favorite sea creatures
incredible designs

Maybe you could base those on the most common location of these female pirates, and make them whatever you imagine to be the typical captain of a pirate ship to look like from that region. Or you could base them off of the sea that these creatures live in!
Hey you should really look into cute sea creatures! Have you seen the dumbo octopus? AND THE SEA BUNNIES?! THEY'RE SO CUTEEE AHHH
would you be interested to make "cute" sea creatures into characters?
I know this video is so old but girl I am right there with you re: the ocean. That stuffs scary!! It was so fun playing the game DREDGE and getting scared more by the completely benign aesthetic whales than the actual monsters 😅
perfect! what's the best cure for sudden anxiety? exactly, pirate art made by awesome ppl
and my fav animal gets mentioned so fuck yeah
I think my personal fave out of these ones has got to be the crab one, I'm a slut for nice shades of red and I looove how the coat tails with the leggies look
I love the longer voice overs, and ofc the characters! These videos have quickly rocketed to the top of my *must watch* list.
Draw Last Of Us characters in your style like infected or Ellie maybe Joel IDK you pick if you like the idea.
They would get my soul so fast i love them
(Lion Mane Jellyfish)Jeena Leonis - Sin Pride (she's giving me Mafia boss, she is the captain, she is everyone momma)
(Spider Crab)Arianna Kane - Sin Greed (Arachni Aranis Arianna, and idk Kane is batman's mother last name, so she is mysterious and dark like bat boi)
(Saw Shark)Sierra Blade - Sin Wrath
(Sierra remember me of Serra that is saw translation and Blade... you know why but the Vampire hunter from marvel too, Both would be well-skilled Killers)
(Angler fish) Angel P.
Yesssssssssss
omg this was such a fun and inspiring!! I'd love to see some character design tips from you in the future!
Watched this and your last video to my bff as I was watching her play the Yu-Gi-Oh app game while we laid on the floor playing with her cat which I feel like fits your channels energy so much. love what you do
Thank you for pushing me to get my squarespace up. 💚💚
These are all STUPENDOUS
i love these designs so much!!! especially the angler fish!! so freakin cool!!!
I LOVE THE OCEAN THIS IS SO EPIC
Ok idk if you want to do this again but I'm going to compile a list of marine animals I'd like to see as pirates :)))
oarfish
lionfish
chain catshark
coelacanth
sea urchin
giant clam
sea angel
rockfish
saltwater crocodile
I think a good introduction would for the angler fish chick would be in her chamber and a mysterious trader comes in will a freshly caught super rare cute sea creature. They explain how well it tastes and how they’ve only seen two in their lifetime. How her eating it could make them go extinct. She says whatever and goes to grab it and the trader pulls away and asks her to sign a payment contract first.. the contracts ends up being for her soul and the mysterious trader ends up being the soulbearer of the sea, coming to punish her for her gluttony
I feel like it would be really cool if they all worked on the same ship or at least all knew each other
