Hey Josh and the rest of the Arc team. I absolutely love Arc and am using it everywhere I go. I understand that with your Swift-everywhere approach, Android might be hard, but not having at least some way to sync my tabs over to Android affects me daily. Global mobile market share says that Android is the dominant mobile platform, so not having any support there will really constrain your growth. And the tension here will grow exponentially when you put out the Windows release

    • @rjpearson

expanding on this, if they release on Android it might allow them to do a ChromeOS release which would further grow the fanbase. Right on MKB's team, David was using a Chromebook and releasing on the Play Store opens up that option for him and others to make the full switch.

I think it would be a good opportunity for this company to do what even chrome is struggling to do that is to create a seamless transition between all the devices on which you use ARC. The easiness to set spaces for your personal, work, and side job is the main thing I told people the plus point of Arc. The other thing the immersiveness since Arc could make you feel like using a native app with the sidebar hidden without having to download the real app

    1. Pinned tabs have their own home/anchor URL that you can easily hop back to

    3. Walled-garden style profiles that you can isolate in separate spaces. There is already so much power in organization with the spaces concept, and having separate profiles increases that by an order of magnitude.

But if I have to be honest I don't think that Arc solves the problem of the tabs. Back in 2022, the Verge touted Arc as the Chrome replacement we’ve been looking for and described it as ‘much more opinionated and much more complicated than your average browser.’ Indeed, it is not only much more complicated for the user but clearly too complicated for the developers who couldn’t readily port it to Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. And bizarrely, Arc existed only in the Apple world, where 99% of its user base is adverse to complexity. To quote Steve Jobs, “Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.” Arc, on the other hand, embraced complexity and tried to convince users to put their noses to the grindstone to discover the Arc way. Now that Arc has pulled their head out of there 🫏 , it’s probably too late.

It seems to me that, even with just Windows, porting Arc to a different language and toolkit (maybe Kotlin and QT like many apps or GTK like most browsers) would be easier than porting Swift to Windows in an actually stable way, and that would also allow for a much easier transition to other platforms. Vertical tabs in browsers like Firefox are really nice, but Arc seems to add some really nice extra features.

But a particular aspect I struggle with is the lack of a page loading bar in dev mode and not being able to refresh the page without using the keyboard shortcut apparently?
Otherwise love the fact spaces can be set (an improvement to this would be to actually separate the signed in sessions between spaces so that we can log into different accounts) and another feature is clearing tabs by itself, really needed.

Hey, just want to let you know that I've been waiting on this for 3 (maybe 4) months now; I use a Windows 2-in-1 (x360 foldable) laptop and your UI and feature set will be perfect for my workflow.
I'm also glad to hear that a mobile version is on its way (and I hope it's going to be a simultaneous iOS and Android drop this time).
Keep up the good work 🙌🏽🫶🏽

This browser looks really cool! It's a shame it's not coming to Linux or Android (as those are the main operating systems I use), and the Windows release is far out. All of the features seem really cool, I just don't own any, and will never own any Apple products (I like that Linux and Android are more open, and I need powerful graphics hardware for my work, which Apple doesn't offer).
I'll keeo following this project, but I'm afraid if it doesn't come to Android or Linux, I'm going to have to keep using Firefox.

I switched to Arc Browser recently and it is amazing! ARC DELIVERS!!!! In the welcome email they did say there goal was to make internet a magical place like we felt in childhood. They've done it. With that they have brought so many features to stop tab overload and this rough mechanical feeling of browsing internet. And you have had the decency and thought to include us, the very first users as a part of developers in ARC journey. Thank You and more power to you guys. Don't let tech giants eat and gulp you.

Although I love the functionality of Arc so far, there are some issues I have with it:
    1. Randomly the options to close or minimize the browser will disappear(Those red, green, yellow buttons in upper left section of any application), so I'll have to Force Quit the application and then open it open it again. (Happens a few times a week)
    2. I cannot sync my Arc browser tabs, profiles, or passwords between different laptops
    3. I guess number 3 would be that there's no mobile app out yet (and since I have an Android, it seems I'll have to wait longer as usual)

This was SO fun, and love the ownership over "if they can't explain it, and they are excited about it, it means we built something special". That is 100% me this past weekend when trying to convince another skeptical friend to try Arc 😆
This edit was also fantastic 🙌 appreciate your team making such fun content and congrats on the MKBHD podcast mention-Marques will for sure be using Arc 6 months from now. It'll be so fun too, to hear a follow-up on this video from them 🔥

Used Arc for a bit. I wish I could separate the bookmarks and tabs being the same thing in a particular space. Also don't like how toggling dev tools (if dev tools is already open but not focused) closes dev tools instead of refocuses it. That second one was the deal breaker for me.

Arc is freaking awesome! I really love it! It makes me feel like that first year or 2 of chrome before it got bloated and stupid. I hope that Arc just keeps getting better and better.
The feature set is awesome, and the fact that it has frequent improvements is amazing. Bugs and features get fixed and added pretty dang quick. As far as features I use, I love the spaces feature, and the air traffic control to go with it. They really streamline browsing when I am working. My work and personal hardly ever blend.

I am a windows/ Android User, so I have been on the waiting list for about a year now, not sure if they will ever launch for non-apple users, but to Marques point, Microsoft Edge has been incorporating a lot of Arc features into Edge like verticle tabs, grouping tabs, pin tabs, collections, the list goes on. Edge has been rolling out update with quite a lot of frequency, and unlike Chrome, edge is not a resource hungry monster. Arc needs to hurry up.

I switched to Arc 2-3 weeks ago after accidentally seeing it on some Twitch stream. It ticks lots pf boxes for me. But what I really miss is a different logo. The “cartoonish” one currently doesn’t seem to represent what Arc is. And for a visual person as me it actually matters, and makes me sometimes bit sad. At some point I’ll try to change the icon by mysef.

I am on the waiting list to gain access and look forward to seeing some of these features /unique elements and seeing where the value add is. What the CEO basically said they need a robust “elevator pitch” on each function. If someone from the company see’s this, PM me and would love to help in the change/ comma space as I see this as a market disruptor and can make real inroads within some sectors of industry and not just the general user.
