Guys remember please that you dont need the latest and greatest tech to do well in school. When I started College and I was studying engineering, I had the most basic stuff. I did quite well in school! Pick and choose the tech you really think you'll need to help you save some time and maybe enjoy college a bit more!
I like this answer a lot. Many creators will say budget setup and choose items that are still way out of price range of most college or uni students. Big fan of your channel so far!!
While I really appreciate the quality of the Herschell products that you highlighted, I would hardly qualify those items as "budget". They are definitely more high end. I realize that they are quality and will last for years, so over the long haul they will hold up. But still not what I would consider "budget".
How refreshing, a tech video without all the same Apple products that we are constantly told to buy. There are so many other alternatives and this video showed those options
as someone who started college during the pandemic (and it quite literally started right before my first year in college commenced), I was actually pretty much broke without a proper laptop… I only had a Lenovo Ideapad MIIX 500 with a broken keyboard (I had to buy a keyboard, mouse and headset) and I only had the bare minimum and I did really, really well in my first year. I definitely second Andres’ point in not needing the best or even the latest tech to do well, or even yet just survive through college :) all the best to everyone starting this year!
seeing this, i remembered when I was an IR student back in 2018 - 2022. My EDC back then was an Acer Swift X, a Logitech M331 wireless mouse, a Mi Basic In Ear earbuds and a Poco M3 (now switched to Samsung A33 5g). these things work flawlessly until my graduation, and the laptop now sits in my desk collecting dust since I often work outside :))
Thank you for actually making a budget video for students, sometimes I can't help but to feel like most, if not all tech youtubers are so disconnected with reality when recommending products in the budget category, specially for students, which are all broke for the most part. Like they will recommend either stuff that is way out of a reasonable budget and that are not necessities, like the latest macbooks, new tv's, top of the line headphones, etc. Or they go to the other extreme and recommend very bad quality stuff that they don't even take the time to review themselves. Their "budget video" ends up with a total reaching the thousands, when a real budget video could have bought something better suited for just the price of one item, and they will just say "this is the best choice for students that are looking for x, specially for this price" with a straight face. I sometimes think that they just don't understand the priorities of someone in a budget, like sure, having quality products is nice, but what we need is just something that works, not making a massive investment with money we do not have.
@@Murk.mp4 I mean, most of them were within the $30 to $150 range that was in his poll. But other than that, what he got was more than needed. For example, you don't really need the keyboard or webcam since they are already in the laptop. (I excluded the mouse since it could be easier to use the mouse rather than the trackpad for somethings.) Same with the SSD, if it only has school things then you might not need a terabyte. Also, there are things that you should spend more for the quality like the backpack since that might get heavy use and you don't want to replace it every semester/year.
@@n4nders To be fair, depending on your major, you could already have a laptop. Also, there are laptops that are cheaper than $1k. Depending on what you need it for, you could get a decent one for $500 or less. Any more could mostly just be for luxury.
Hey guys remember if your course is not very demanding and your computing needs are basic, you just upgrade your old laptop with more ram and SSD and use for a year or two more
All of my life I was well organized mentally and not physically. I was a doctor, Linux Tech guy but never allowed gadget to dominate me. I am a multi task man who never missed an appointment for 40 years of day to day life. This changes to paranoia when I am on holiday mood and when I travel abroad. Moment I board the plane I lose my identity and self authority and in this scenario a water bottle piece of cheese and some biscuits, go very handy. For solid 3 hours in Singapore Airlines, I could not get a glass of water and a vegetarian meal (I was not a vegetarian to begin with but now I am). Like the author of this piece I go into minute detail and chose the best travel bag. I do not carry a laptop due to weight but have several cellphones to organize myself. I have dropped the tablet to and moved WiFi NUC and wireless Mouse and Keyboard. Virtual keyboard of the cellphone including French Language capability for translation (still learning). By the way I have over 200 applications and games in my Android 11. I do not think I will go for Android 11. Thanks for your efforts. Closer at home do not become a virtual AI. Moment you lose one item you may go into panic mode. Be normal and take one task and one day at a time . I was a University teacher for 15 years and I hated it since I could not get more than 3% to be logical and rational and above all be a simple guy with happy mind. I carry Puppy Linux on travel abroad and it has all my utilities in one 64GB stick.
Usually I would prefer a MacBook Pro but for that price and being upgradable? totally worth it. I work in IT and sometimes a windows pc is needed! Now I know what to get! that ASUS laptop is gorgeous!
So unique and COOL. tired of seeing apple products… while i use all of them, I find it refreshing and different to see a gorgeous setup like yours. We know you’re into the real heavy duty tech stuff.
For a great portable keyboard I suggest the Microsoft Designer Compact keyboard, it's around 55 dollars with a great battery life ( 3 years) and the ability to connect to 3 devices and switch between them, and it's really slim.
Asus has always been My only choice when comes to having a laptop. They definitely have some great quality and durability devices👍mine one 7 y/o still going strong
Really good video as always! Both the quality of the information and the quality of the video itself. I really like your videos and I'm sure you'll keep going with youtube, but I encourage you to keep doing it anyways, because I think your content is GOLD. Also, that transition between the trunk of the car closing and you grabbing the paper bags was REALLY good.
I was gifted the Peak Design Field Pouch a couple of years ago. I use it as my tech bag/pencil case. Would recommend. Its also nice that you can attach a strap to use it as a bum bag.
Love the difference between your videos and other ppl's videos, who highlight the apple ecosystem, whereas you show the same setup but much cheaper and afforable.
if you want a real budget keyboard get the rk84 and buy a 2 pack of akko cs switches, my suggestions: the lavender purples or the jelly blacks Id get the lubed versions and at normal price, it'll be around 120, but given popularity, the keyboard (80$ roughly) will likely go on sale. still much cheaper than the mini in this video
Omg, it's so cool when you break the character, like when you screamed budget, haha. Kinda creates a little bit of contrast to you character or more precisly speaking the narrative talk when describing a tech (I guess, you may call it)
Awesome video and love the cinematics, as always (the shoes part killed me). Just one thing for people: don’t get the Sony earbuds (they are great tho) if you can get the Huawei Freebuds 4i for 10-15 bucks more! I had them both in a week and the Huawei ones are amazing Ps. I’m from Italy and Sony ones costs 50€ and Huawei ones 55€
I'm not a student any longer (already went through that fun stuff). Still appreciate the video reviewing the latest and greatest with tech. Thanks for the video!
Before you buy a wifi smart bulb consider this: Slow wifi means slow response times. You basically need perfect wifi to make this work smoothly. 2) When your wifi doesn't work, the light bulbs don't work. Consider thinking about smart bulbs that work via a physical controller working on a simple battery (without wifi, your phone or anything else) It's more reliable (the controller's battery basically never dies because such a controller basically doesn't use any energy and it doesn't rely on wifi) and it's a lot cheaper. Personally I've had both and the occasional few seconds delay on nanoleaf bulbs (My wifi was perfect) became so annoying I went back to non wifi smart bulbs because they just work instantly and perfectly. If you want smart bulbs I'd go for philips hue and avoid cheaper alternatives because they have small inconveniences like small delays, wrong colour display, wifi dependancy, software updates which takes time or has bugs sometimes, ... Go for premium smart bulbs like philips hue or buy a simple non smart bulb that can be controlled via a physical controller.
Bought my wife an 14" Asus laptop. She loves it and it works well. I wrecked my HP and went to buy one and they were sold out. I read some good things about the Vastking King book. It has the key pad in the track pad as well. it is horrible. I have had an issue with it from the jump. It does not allow you to jump back to the mouse without hitting the power button and powering it back up. In the future will just use a bluetooth key pad or re-learn to use the keypad key strokes for the numbers. Good vid.
I love my G305 Lightspeed, I feel like Logitech overdelivers on the battery life especially if you use something like Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries which also help cut down on the weight.

for the people that want to buy the wfc500, I've had them for a year now and i've had some problems and i needed to return them and get a new one the first problem is that one of the earbud stopped working and it didn't charge, I returned them and they gave me a new one and the second one was recently it's that whenever i connect it to the laptop it connects but the sound keeps going away and comming back rappitly like the whole time but when your using the phone yeah it does happen time to time but it's rarely.
Honestly for this money for the laptop you could get a Huawei matebook with better specs. A laptop with 8 gbs of ram especially if its not upgradable in 2022 is simply not enough.

ive never heard anyone say iCUE by spelling it, i always hear it and say it as "eye-Q" haha! good video!
Honestly for this money for the laptop you could get a Huawei matebook with better specs. A laptop with 8 gbs of ram especially if its not upgradable in 2022 is simply not enough.
Quality content. Great video!
Not a hater at all but I gotta ask. How is a bulb an edc? Especially when you're on a budget?
