IN it he admits this is the game and he sort of goes after people that bucked the trend. His point was basically this is Vince's company and he needs to trust his main eventers. So I played the game like everyone else. and TBH its easy to see that he did looking back. Austin had nothing good to say about Flair. Rhodes, or Hogan when he was stuck on the midcard at WCW. Nowadays he's going interviews with Flair, calling him the GOAT and a great friend. Talks about Hogan and Rhodes like he never has said a bad word of them. Basically confirms RVDs point that most times in environments like this, people complain at the pecking order until they get to the top of it..

The sad side of wrestling is wrestlers got hooked on either drugs or something to help with the pain. For rvd it was marijuana and is way less dangerous compared to pills.
Look at test and crash holly. Both died due to overdosing.
      Least rvd is still around.
Seems like wrestling as a whole needs to give more time for wrestlers to take a break so shit like that doesn't happen because a lot of wrestlers go out due to overdosing and all they are trying to do is deal with the pain or are just to far down the rabbit hole and got addicted.

I was a writer in Hollywood from 2004 to 2014. I did a lot of freelance and spec work and I would get hired on sitcoms and dramas for maybe a few weeks or a couple months at a time but my real Payday came when I got hired in the second season to work on Boston Legal. It was that comedy lawyer show with Captain Kirk and James Spader. I understand Rob Van Dam's perspective of thinking that certain guys were kissing ass to the writers. He's totally right and it is abhorrent. Shatner would sit in with the writers all the time and he'd be coming by to pitch ideas and nine times out of 10 his ideas were s*** but when you're on a deadline of coming up with new material it doesn't matter where the material comes from if somebody has an idea and it's good enough that there is some meat on the bones that's making your job easier because some weeks you work a hundred hours on the show because you're literally trying to think of funny stuff. If somebody can come along and say hey I had an idea about that and the only thing they want in return is maybe they get a few more lines of dialogue and get featured in the episode a little bit more what do I care? My checks cashed the same whether I worked a hundred hours a week or 50. after the show ended I had made a good chunk of money that I was able to save and invest it and I knocked around Hollywood for a few more years trying to work but I was never able to get another great job like Boston Legal so I moved home to Oklahoma.

I met RVD at a TNA fan event where a part of a six - flags theme park was reserved for us. Many wrestlers including him were just roaming around us and talking to us or taking pictures plus we all had a free buffet included as well. I talked to him a little and took a pic with him and he was super cool. Exactly like this interview. I told him that I had read "the secret" book as well and enjoyed it and that got his attention for sure because I had read that he was really into spiritual and metaphysical things like that as I am. Anyway, really cool guy for sure.

There's a difference between playing politics/kissing ass to get ahead and building a more personal relationship with higher ups. Many people are professional and business-like, but when you reach the top the bosses want to feel a more personal connection with you because your job always requires a special degree of trust. Being WWF champion means holding a lot of power and the office wants to know they can trust you in that position, not just work the position. I guess a conversation with Vince to let him know "Hey, if you ever think about taking me to the next level, I'm ready to handle the responsibility. You've seen what I can do. I would be grateful and happy for the opportunity to help this company achieve more." Somethin like that, kind of like what job seekers write in cover letters. It's more personal. Builds a connection with the employer. Because working isn't just business, it's also personal.
A purely business mentality means a potential to leave, cheat, or damage the employer. And Vince knows this. Remember Flair taking the WCW belt to WWF after contract disputes. How about Madusa, aka Alundra Blayze taking the WWF Women's Championship belt and throwing it in the trash live on WCW Nitro in 1995 after being fired due to budget cuts? How many wrestlers have screwed themselves professionally because of drugs and alcohol?
Remember when Michael Corleone tells Tom in the Godfather that he can't trust the capos in his family. ""They're all businessmen." And he couldn't. Remember Steve Jobs trusted Bill Gates as he helped write code for Apple? That he called Microsoft a part of the Apple family? Then furious when he found out about Windows, saying Gates stole from Apple. How about when Steve Jobs got fired by the same CEO he put in charge of Apple in the 80s? A very business-like decision. Obviously, Jobs couldn't trust him either. And how did it work out for Apple? I say again, a personal relationship is necessary for a business relationship to truly flourish.
