As an Arsenal fan, trust me it isn’t easy to clear out the deadwood. We also had so many underperforming players coasting on generous contracts which made it very difficult to create a culture of accountability and high performance. It will take at least 2 years to weed out the trash. Be prepared for it to get worse before it gets better.
I agree. I'm a Newcastle fan and I can remember adding up how much money we would get for the players I didn't rate, and all the ones that never get a game, but I was delusional, because no team wants to pay for players that arent getting games and even players that are getting games are hard to get rid of if they arent highly rated. We got rid of maybe half of the players deemed not good enough, and the other half keep getting sent on loan each season (while we pay the majority of their wages).
Arsenal are the perfect case study on how to back the new manager and allow him to cull the deadwood. It's more important to clear out the toxic and/or incompetent players than signing upgrades. Too many wasters have been at that club for years but it won't be easy getting rid of them

When an agent/player realizes they won't be getting a new deal from their current club they will very quickly lower their wage expectations and maybe actually try a little harder. Utd's problem has been handing out contract renewals like candy. When this attitude stops their fortunes should improve.

It’s easy to say that United will move all these players on. But the reality is the likes of Maguire, McTominay, Shaw, Lindelof, Bruno, Rashford, Wan Bissaka, etc still have years left on their high wage contracts. They all know they are not getting United wages anywhere else and they will refuse to leave. Just like Maguire, McTominay, and Martial refused to leave last summer when United tried to sell them. United brought this problem completely on themselves by signing far too many overrated players to long term contracts on money they never deserved in the first place. And they can’t move on these players fast enough because none of them want to take reduced wages elsewhere and no club will fully take on these players ridiculous wage demands.

If you actually watch United and understood football you'd realise a lot of the goals we concede are from Dalot's flank due to his had positional sense, lack of footballing IQ and lack of pace and physicality. He's absolute garbage and needs to be the first one out this summer, him and Lindelof.

As well as McTominay and Martial. All three of them refused to leave even though Ten Hag was actively trying to sell them. They all knew they’d never again make the money they make at United at any other club. United’s fault for signing far too many players to massive long term contracts on ridiculously overinflated wages that makes the players never want to leave and wages that no other club will take on.
But Maguire is showing his professional attitude and saving United so many times this season, meanwhile Martial or Rashford aren’t.

Maguire has certainly demonstrated a professional attitude. But he’s nowhere near elite enough. Likewise, he’s a huge reason why United get so stretched, can’t play a high line, and why United’s back four are constantly camped out on their own penalty area instead of getting up the field. He’s still a big liability.

For now, United isn’t able to sign too many players at once so I think they need to keep Maguire and get rid of Martial, Rashford. What they need right now is a world-class centre midfielder, left back, 1-2 wingers. If they don’t sell Rashford (which might be the case), I’d prefer him and Hojlund rotate in striker position.

Only really need to get rid of one player Marcus rashford, my brother told me just to watch him alone about 4 years ago, and so I did, the Man Utd players don’t actually want to pass it to him, when he does get the ball the opposing team presses instantly and he often looses the ball, offers little going forward and nothing defensively, £375k a week, bad attitude, get rid of him and watch the team rise.

I’d probably keep Amad and give him a shot. I’ve always thought Martinez should stay but his latest injury has made me question that position. It also makes me question something within the club, our medics and fitness staff as to why were having so many injuries

I heard from a person who was at the Manchester United Liverpool fa cup match at Old Trafford, and at the end of the match outside the stadium there were disabled fans waiting for players and most players approached them for pictures and autographs, and fair play even some Liverpool players , but Marcus rashford just power walked by with his hood up and didn't even acknowledge any of the fans , an absolute disgrace, he forgets where he came from and who gave him the ridiculous lifestyle him and his family have , disgusting in my opinion,

I don't think there's one outstanding candidate out there that fits the following attributes (except Klopp) - serial winner, PL/Big club proven, has a track record of building successive teams and plays an attractive style of football. There's another underlying pre-requisite that your manager should have, fluent in english.
ETH joined 18 months ago. When he joined, we were told he needed a massive clear out of players. The same bloody players we are talking about 18 months later.
I guess we will never know how ETH would compete if he were given control of the starting 11.

Let's, for the sake of it, say Bruno is 26. Modric is leaving Madrid this summer. Would they consider Bruno as a replacement? I don't think so. Even if they did, he couldn't do what Modric does for Madrid in the center of the pitch on his best day.
Today I saw a Munich player barge into Modric from behind after he had released the ball. He just got on with. He didn't look at the player, didn't complain, talk less of going down. If that was Bruno, I'm 100% sure he will still be rolling around on the pitch 10 hours later.

@@jeannotschumacher1024 I was telling people last year United needed to sell him even when he was scoring all those goals. The reason being his all around game was terrible. And now people are seeing what he’s actually like as an all around player because the goals aren’t masking that he hasn’t developed his game at all since his late teens/early 20’s. He’s terrible in possession and constantly gives the ball away. He dribbles blindly with his head down. He doesn’t track back. He has no left foot. He only shoots with power. Never with placement. He only has one move. Cutting inside onto his right foot. That’s been found out. He’s just not a very advanced player.

Virtually none of the players will actually leave. Their wages at United are so much higher than they’d be at any other club. Ten Hag tried to sell Maguire, McTominay, and Martial last summer but they all refused to leave because they make so much at United on long term deals.
