@@WillSavage A game early in the season and a game in the last 9 games to win the league when mentality is needed the most cannot be compared. When mentality was needed, Arsenal came and set up to defend… if they win that game, they win the league.

I totally agree that it is Arsenal's mentality which cost them in the end, but what you and Rodri are missing is that it was not their mentality at the Etihad which did it. It was their mentality in other games which had a much greater bearing.

The real reason why Arsenal lost the title was because of inabilities of other teams including mine to take points from city. Simple as that. Arsenal were too good and took 4 points off city who doesn’t deserve to win in my opinion and i am a Liverpool fan…
They lost 5 out of 6 points to Fulham. Even when Fulham had 10 men in one of those games. Same as the Villa games I believe. As well with West Ham. They didn't break 90 points. Arsenal lost the league themselves.

The draw away to city at the time was a good point because i think mikel was relying on city at the very least drawing a game it didnt happen and the villa game should have gone differently shame but we go again and hopefully we get it right next season

Look what happened when city were in the same place as arsenal. City had never won the league before n Utd were dominating the league similar to how city are now.

Arsenal are not a fortress at the Emirates that was the problem of the season. The only problem. Those defeats at home were just unacceptable, the real crux.

As a City fan, while going head to head with Klopp, neither team ever played for a draw. LFC always came out guns blazing for the win and so did City. Most times they nullified one another and drew, but they always played to win every game in the PL regardless of the opponent. Had Arsenal done the same, I have no doubt given how well they were playing at that time and how shaky we were, they’d have likely beaten us, knocking us out of the title teams and even with them losing to AV, they’d still have won the title.
To win titles, you have to play to win every game and Arsenal just proved with such slim margins, playing for the draw can cost you everything …
That is it, Arsenal tried to sneak a title. The best team always wins. Arsenal don't have the mentality of being the best and it showed.
A gunner here, I agree with you. I think we should’ve gone for the win at the Etihad but I understand why Arteta wanted to play safe. Far too many times have we fallen apart at the Etihad, as good as we looked when faced each other I don’t think we were ready to fully take on Man city. However, next season I have no doubt Arteta is going to be aiming for the win.

Citeh were certainly pragmatic away against Arsenal. They were tight and narrow and patiently waited for the opposition to make a mistake that never came. They lost. At home Citeh tried to force that mistake, but expansive they weren't. They had the lion's share of possession, and limited Arsenal's outlets. But it was wasteful possession. Their most dangerous player, Gvardiol, deployed as a winger on the left, was basically ignored by Arteta and allowed to do whatever it was he was doing. Everyone else was bang average. Including their vaunted 9 and 10, who were controlled by the Arsenal 4, 5 and 6. For all their possession, they only had one shot on goal all match long, and their number of touches in the box were negligible. Arsenal, on the other hand, were pragmatic. They soaked up the toothless pressure, and hit Citeh on the counter. They certainly had the better chances.

Interestingly enough, Citeh only had 24 progressive passes, compared to Arsenal's 19. _You_ decide what that means, given the context.
At home Arsenal had 12 attempts to Citeh's 4, 2 on target for Arsenal, 1 for ManCity. The xG difference was 0.41 to 0.55.
There is no moral victory here for Arsenal. These two matches were played by two teams resolute not to lose. That's the definition of pragmatism.

And that's the thing City proved this year. You needn't win against your direct rivals. I don't see how people want to pinpoint Villa game as the downfall but dismiss the game at the Etihad when city were in poor form and there for the taking. City always always have the easiest run in. We have this for the three times as Liverpool fans . We can see it next year when the fixtures come in . They have had all their hard games bar Liverpool at home so they played all their hard games in August sept and October. Secondly teams count matches against city now as a free pass. They did that against Manu in the early 90s they have the fear factor now so teams will fight against Arsenal but loose 2,3, 4 nil vs city without even trying. They WIll win the fifth next season for sure now that Klopp is gone.
When Arsenal came to city they should have gone for the win. I think they could have beat us as we were quite poor at the time. Defence was all over the place. We as fans said it ar the time. Unlucky Arsenal nevermind.
