- Smart speakers are all the rage these days, with both Alexa-powered and Google Assistant-powered speakers taking over the market. But what if you want the best of both worlds? Well, you build your very own smart speaker. At least that's what we did. Yes, in this video, we show you how to build a smart speaker with Google Assistant and Alexa.

5:50, Kind of a misunderstanding.. I have ported the 20th Dec GA SDK update to the Assistants-Pi, so the Pi will get picked up in the GA App and you can control all your smart devices assigned to GA app. Only the recent Google Music playback has not been mirrored to the Assistants-Pi git.

Can it be done in windows 10? Or do we need a Linux OS?

@Aryan, As of today, nope. I have some interesting things coming up for the GA git, once thats implemented, i will push that update to this git along with GPM.
@Sid's E Classroom , I'm not an engineer,a class 12 student,so I just want to know whether all those installations and the whole process of setting up the RPi and smart speaker can be done in a windows 10 laptop,or do we need a Linux Red Hat OS?

It shouldn't be happening actually any more.When speaker is playing content the mic is actually turned off.Unless you are using two devices.

I've always loved Beebom's videos and I am a proud subscriber. But unless someone is a DIY enthusiast, this is not logical.
The approximate prices of the items for this setup:
1. Raspberry pi - 2500
2. Memory card 32 GB - 700
3. A wall adapter - 400
4. 3 port USB hub - 400
5. A USB to micro USB cable - 100
6. USB microphone - 700
7. Portable speaker (the one in the video) - 1800
8. A keyboard - 400
9. A mouse - 200
10. A good HDMI cable - 400
Total of the whole setup is Rs. 7,600
Cost of Amazon Echo Dot - Rs. 4,500
Cost of getting a Google Home Mini (from a relative in America possibly) - USD 50 =~ Rs. 3,250. Buying them both would cost you Rs. 7,750 which is only 150 bucks more.
Considering the fact that you get a plug and play setup and involves almost no tech knowledge involved and you get support and warranty, it only seems logical to Buy them than Make it...

You can use a Raspberry Pi Zero, a 16GB card, a cheaper wired speaker, a usb mic, and wall chargers for both speaker and raspberry pi, and get the total cost under 3.5k. The products we've used are for best compatibility and better design language. You can choose to go with cheaper alternatives as well. Also, the keyboard, mouse, and hdmi are only required for the setup, so if cost is a main factor, you could also borrow it from your friends. The total setup takes merely 3 hours, so it is still something you could look into.
I have my Raspberry pi 3 lying around the corner.
And this video helped me to do something unique with that.

i guess when you connect to display to set up developer account you can connect to the wifi at that time...
